  1. Otani is getting ankle surgery. I would be reluctant to sign him. But Stanton interests me very much.
  2. It was a terrible misstep by Pedroia when he did that. It could not have sat well with the rest of the team or with the coaches or manager.
  3. I have a feeling that one of these two teams is going to erupt offensively tomorrow. I hope that it will be the Astros.
  4. I always liked Ellsbury. I still do. Thanks for k'ing
  5. There was nothing more disgusting than watching David Well shoot his nose rockets.
  6. Unusual this post season -- 2 aces in the same game with excellent outings.
  7. It was too easy for their hitter in the ALDS.
  8. Quote of DD from Speier's article; Maybe he was alluding to the lack of sound fundamentals.
  9. Pitching can't seem to stop offenses this post season.
  10. Oh, I misunderstood you. I think you are right.
  11. What do they deserve?
  12. I didn't blame Farrell. But I didn't apologize for his managing throughout the year either.
  13. We can dither about which stats are most relevant, but other than the injuries to Pedroia and Hanley which significantly impaired their performances (and it was predictable as they have had chronic problems), the other performances were not uniformly and drastically down. This type of performance was not totally unforeseeable for an offense without David Ortiz. Instead, there seems to have been an expectation that the remaining group would elevate their performances. To me that is not reasonable.
  14. Which Tanaka will you get? On Jeter Day, the Astros torched Tanaka for 3 or 4 HRs and 8 runs in 2 innings.
  15. Down years are not uncommon early in a player's career after having success. There is no smooth career trajectory. It is a game of adjustments. You have some success and the league adjusts to you, then you decline and have to make adjustments. Early in a career, these adjustments don't happen very quickly.
  16. And they weren't human at 21-22? I don't understand that comment.
  17. You disliked him but nevertheless were an unabashed apologist for him? Such inconsistency just confuses me.
  18. With short termers, no season should be dropped. Otherwise, it is just playing games. Edit: Haven't you heard of the Sophomore Slump? It is a common thing for players to take a step back after some success.
  19. Good point. He is an admitted apologist and as such should be eating crow as the FO took hours to decide that Farrell had to go, so the consensus must have been that he was doing a s***** job. I have edited my post accordingly.
  20. Good to know. I will point out when you are going down those bad paths.
  21. Should we also drop out their peak year? I don't believe in cherry picking stats like that. Your career average is your career average. Good years will bring it up and bad years will have it decline, but it is all the player's career.
  22. His OPS was 2 points below his career average. I think you are overstating it.
  23. I did not expect Farrell to get fired until I listened to him being savaged on WEEI. They seemed to have inside information that he had very bad standing in the clubhouse.
  24. I like Moon. Ask him if he likes me. LOL!!! It is not about the posters. It's about the posts.
  25. I agree with your assessment, although I don't think XB's season was such a decline. I think this might be what he is. The big mistake by the FO was thinking that as a group they would all take a leap forward enough to cover for Papi leaving. I called that out as a mistaken assumption well before the season started.
