  1. I thought the Sox traded Renteria before the Damon signing. I felt that they dumped Renteria to free up some money to use for signing Damon, and then they bungled the Damon deal, leaving them without a CF or SS.
  2. I hope you are right about getting the ability to get out of a portion of the contract. I have never been enthusiastic about this signing. I'd rather have give Scott Williamson another shot. I read that he might be the odd man out of the Cubs pen.
  3. Exactly right. Losing Damon to the Yankees was a total bungle job. Frick and Frack, the twin GM's were not up to the task. They lost track of the deal, and the Sox never got their best offer on the table. Crisp may be a pretty good player, but he was not Plan A. Plan A was re-signing Damon. Crisp was a nice recovery by the FO.
  4. When the Sox had him the first time, he bombed out. I don't know why they would give him another chance at a greatly increased price.
  5. This kid Murphy still doesn't impress me. A very small percentage of prospects ever have an impact at the ML level. Prospects are good trading chips, but most are nothing more than that. Developing stars in your own system is as rare as striking gold.
  6. I don't doubt that baseball is popular in Asia, but looking at the very empty stadium in Tokyo I don't think there is a lot of interest or excitement in Asia for the WBC. The whole tournament is a sleeper.
  7. Korea is leading China 9-0 in the 7th inning in front of an empty stadium. Yawn. Great move, Bud Selig.
  8. We know him well enough to know that he will not be going north with the Yankees, and his major league days a likely behind him.
  9. Who, who and who. My gosh! Who cares. Will any of them play for the Yankees, ever?
  10. This WBC is just a big no-event. Who care to watch Japan trash China in a completely non-competitive game. I have had the Baseball package since PrimeStar was a satellite provider. I watch baseball every night and go to spring training every year, yet this WBC is just not interesting to me. I hope they never do this again.
  11. It would be worth it to land either one of those guys.
  12. If Leiter is limited to a pitch count of 30-35 pitches, that will not let him get through one batter.
  13. Take that back. I am not reading anything into this story. I just think Rocket is and always has been a royal ass. I could care less if he hit his kid between the eyes. That being said, I'd love for him to pitch for the Red Sox this season.
  14. He would be a major threat hitting in the 7th or 8th spot.
  15. Hit .268 with 18 HRs in 2001. In 2002-2005, he has averaged more than 30 HRs per year and he raised his career average to .280.
  16. What about his 2001 WS Game 7 HR that should have won the Championship for the Yankees?
  17. They could move Loretta to 1B. He has played there before.
  18. Roger is one of the greatest of all-time, but he has always been an ass.
  19. What about playing Soriano at 1B?
  20. The uniform was especially tight in the crotch.
  21. He's not a Red Sox player until he suits up for a regular season game, and I hope that day doesn't come.
  22. I can root for him to fail...right?
  23. A player is not a gamer if he only play hard when he wants to and when he is not pissed off. In that case, Manny is also a gamer. He plays hard when he wants to play hard.
  24. He's a backup who stinks. The other two guys could not be much worse, so I would prefer that Flaherty gets cut, because I can't stand the guy, and I don't want Yankee trash on the Red Sox. If he was a stud, I'd root for him even though I don't like him, but he stinks. Any backup would be just as good.
  25. He was a real stand up guy when he threatened the Yankees and Mets, when there were rumors last year that he would be traded to the Mets. His threats were along the lines that the Mets would be sorry if they traded for him. It sounded like he was threatening to not perform at 100% for the Mets. We know that he would not walk away from $13 million. Yes, I guess you are right. He has matured a lot since his days in Milwaukee. I love your Rose-colored pinstriped perspective.
