  1. He's there most valuable commodity. I doubt they would do anything to risk his health.
  2. Because Theo is dead set against trying to win another WS?
  3. I was at the game tonight and have a couple of observations. Wakefield was in obvious discomfort that I think affected his delivery. Before the 4th inning, I think he only took about 3 warmups and he looked very uncomfortable. These mysterious back injuries have a way of lingering. If so, that could be very bad news. This heightens the necessity that the FO make a move to get a starter. Secondly, it's obvious that Youk is struggling and its time to put Coco back at the top of the order as he seems to finally be locked in at the plate.
  4. WEEI reports that Providence Journal has confirmed that the Dodgers have offered Odalis Perez to the Red Sox, but the Red Sox declined.
  5. No, but I think they'd be better off waiting for Clement and/or Wells.
  6. I'd love to see a poll of TalkSox members on whether a. acquiring Lidle is a big move, and b. whether taking Woody Williams would not be charity by the Sox.
  7. It's so freakin hot out that I'd be more than a little concerned if Wakefield can't get his back loose tonight.
  8. The Braves are a very bad team. Their GM should know that they will not be going anywhere, and it's better to move a player one year early than one year too late.
  9. Acquiring Lidle would not be considered a big move. and acquiring Woody Williams would be considered an act of charity.:thumbdown
  10. The offense has to get going.
  11. Jaret Wright has been very reliable lately.
  12. He's looking fine so far. Let's hope the SOx give him aother start right away and don't send him to AAA and try someone else like Mike Remlinger. BTW Really nice running catch by Manny to end the inning.
  13. Because the Sox only have one reliable starter--- Schilling. Beckett is leading the universe in dingers and Wakefield's knuckler is such a wild-card that it is not reliable. You can't count on Beckett having a strong second half or Lester getting in less jams. Those are hopes and "ifs." If you run your team based on hopes and "ifs" You will almost always be disappointed. Right now,the yankee rotation is stronger one through five and one through three. The White Sox pitching rotation is also stronger. The Sox don't have a top of the rotation 1 thru 3 that is reliable and that can dominate. That's why I think they are built to lose in the first round if they make it at all. Do they have a chance to advance? Yes, they do, but Vegas will not have them as the favorite to advance through he playoffs.
  14. This bum of the week routine is getting very old.
  15. The best SS on the Yankees just hit a HR and the Yankees are ahead.
  16. I'm not conteradicting myself. He should have gotten another start right away when they had the luxury of more time. Instead they dick around for another few weeks with Jason Johnson. Now, they are short on time to solidify the rotation, and they decide to give the kid his deserved second start. Sorry, but it's too late.
  17. If it's truethat the Yanks won't part with Hughes, that should put the Sox in a good podition to knock the Yankees out of the box unless the Yankees can work cash in by taking a bad contract, etc.
  18. DFA Party at my house.
  19. I might agree with you if Beckett becomes more consistent, but as things stand today, this team will have difficulty making th eplayoffs, and they are built to lose in the first round.
  20. Throw in Pedroia and you can get Smoltz easliy.
  21. It might be worth it for a guy with his stuff and big game resume. Not too many can bear up under the bright lights, and he is one of the best at it.
  22. He did deserve another start after his first start, but the FO decided to make a completely pointless move getting Jason Johnson and they sent down Snyder. They should have given Snyder the shot right away. The waiver claims were not rolling in for Johnson. They could have pushed that off a few days. Now, we are getting close to the trading deadline and the FO is still experimenting with bush leaguers. It would be nice if they could get lucky, but they don't have much time with the deadline looming.
  23. Smoltz shutting down the Padres after 6 innings. Let's hop Theo can bring him to Fenway. He can put this team over the top. Plus, next to Schilling, he is probably the best big game pitcher in the game.
  24. Right now the Yankee rotation is better.
  25. Guys, I appreciate your optimism, but the reality is we are trotting out s*** as our 5th starter--- not a mediocre pitcher, but s***. Snyder would have his hands full with KC in Fenway. He is likely to get his head handed to him tomorrow by the first place A's. The FO can't continue to put its head in the sand about the #5 pitcher. It's basically a forfeit game. I realize that anything can happen, but if you trot out a guy that has a 1 out 4 chance of winning for the remainder of the season, the chances are that at the end of the season he will have lost pretty close to 3 out of 4 games. Occasionally, he'll get lucky and that will account for the one win in 4 starts.
