  1. Take Eck out of the studio and he'd be an upgrade over those guys. That's not saying much. BTW Was that Paris Hilton holding up the "Sox Rock Sign" in the 9th inning?
  2. Dennis Eckersley sucked for several years before he reinvented himself as a top closer. The guy's been injured.
  3. That is the sadest thing I have heard all day, and I went to a funeral this morning.
  4. He's getting residuals on the commercial. This one commercial will have him set for life. I must have heard it 10,000 times myself.
  5. An awful lot is riding on the left arm of a 43 year old pot-bellied guy with bad knees and no wins and a near 40 year old knuckleballer with a painful rib injury.
  6. Does retooling mean that the FO doesn't do what it takes to give your team its best chance of winning, but only enought to make it competitive? Is that the definition? If it is, it seems like a pointless concept.
  7. Hopefully, he can comeback healthy, because throwing 86-88 he is better than MDC or Hansen. He throws strikes and almost never walks people.
  8. If it's a rebuilding year, trade him to San Diego for a prospect and unload what's left of his contract. If it's not rebuilding, keep him and plug the gaps with some acquisitions for prospects such as the immortal Hansen and Pedroia and make a run at the Championship. This half-way ******** makes no sense.
  9. Wells doesn't have a win. Injuries to Foulke have forced Papelbon out of the starting rotation to the closer role. Wakefield goes on the DL for the first time in 10 years, leaving the team short two starters. Highly paid acquisitions Seanez and Tavarez are stinking out the joint. This has nothing to do with rebuilding. It has to do with certain guys overperforming and others underperforming and an unusual rash of injuries. It has nothing to do with rebuilding.
  10. I never said he sucks, but as of today, I'd rather face him than Kennedy with the winning runs on base.
  11. If you are rebuilding, why the hell do you need to pay him $16 million for 2 years?
  12. I likee the arms on these kids, but facts are facts and MDC and Hansen do have ERA's over 4. Neither one has been very consistent. When Foulke's ERA goes over 4 everyone is screaming that he's finished. I hope that he is healthy, because this bullpen can use him.
  13. I was glad that Kennedy was not in the lineup, probably because we are throwing a lefty, because he has always been a thorn in our sides-- a very tough out. He'll probably play tomorrow and Sunday and kill us.
  14. And they would n't be suffering at the gate if they rebuilt the correct way by paring down the payroll by $30 million. They would have more surplus funds with which to rebuild and additional profits. The Sox will sell out for an extended period. So, if maximizing profits is the business goal, they are not rebuilding correctly. They could have much bigger profit margins without the high paid veterans like Lowell and Varitek, etc.
  15. Rebuilding while maintaining a $130 million payroll and charging $45-50 for seats behind girders is not an economically sound approach.
  16. Replace Papelbon with Murphy and you got a deal! Any dissenters?
  17. Let's trade Foulke. We don't need him even if he's healthy. We got the Kiddie Corps.
  18. They held it longer last year, and if they don't win the division this year, they will be going home after September, but that's okay because they will have the future on the farm.
  19. We are all giddy with the kids and fat Wells coming back that people think this team is fine as it is. It is not. The kids are nice, but this is the kind of game that Smoltz would go 8 and turn it over to Papelbon for the save.
  20. This is a big game. Tomorrow they have Jared Weaver going against Home Run Derby Beckett. The Yankees have already won, and they have good matchups for the rest of the weekend.
  21. So what. He won't be getting 10 or 12 million. If his wheels come off, the Red Sox are one of the lucky teams with the financial resources to handle that. If you sign him for 2 years and Pedroia wins the job, Loretta could be moved at the trading deadline in '07 or after '07.
  22. Grit and hustle don't equate to professionalism. They might get you to the major leagues, but there is no substitute for experience. The second place hitter needs to be a good situational hitter. Knowledge of the pitchers, their tendencies and patterns, the other teams defensive strengths and weaknesses is can be critical. You don't get this anyway other than experience. Pedroia would learn plenty and they could work him into the lineup 2-3 times a week. That would get his feet wet without overwhelming him.
  23. It's not that easy for a kid to come to the majors and play for the Red Sox everyday in a high-pressure atmosphere and to remain consistent throughout the year. It will be a learning process. I'm not comfortable with a kid learning on the job for a $130 million team without a safety net. I don't consider Cora a safety net. He's a nice defensive replacement and utility player, but he is not a good enough everyday player to be the safety net.
  24. IF hit for Ortiz. It went about 50 feet.
  25. Loretta has been a very big part of the offensive production in front of Ortiz and Manny. He was a key acquisition for the top of the order, especially in light of losing Damon. Pedroia as a rookie will not have the professionalism to replace Loretta as the #2 guy in the order. That leaves them looking for a #2 batter. Would you go Crisp and Youk 1 and 2? I'm not so sure that Crisp is a good leadoff hitter. Also, why wouldn't you have Pedroia caddy next year for Loretta and Gozo like Cora is doing this year. If he proves himself he wins the spot. If he flops, Loretta is a nice safety net.
