  1. In 7 or 8 outings, he has only been touched up once for a run. He gets a ton of K's. Maybe he 's the prospect they should be holding on to?
  2. No hitting and so-so pitching from Beckett.
  3. Still tied 4-4 in the 11th
  4. Francona gets outmanaged by Bell. That's a new low. I'd rather have just about anyone batting against a lefty than Krapler hitting off a tee.
  5. Here comes Timlin carrying an L with him from the pen.
  6. In addition to the injuries that have held him back, it seems like he just doesn't care to play in Boston anymore. It could be a totally mistaken impression, but he always seems to be pissed--- sort of like JSinger. BTW: What a whacky running play with Loretta.
  7. 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th. Lowell leads off.
  8. Nice changeup by Foulke for the K.
  9. Only 4 hits total, 3 by the starting lineup, 2 by the Rookie. Brutal.
  10. Need a Manny Homer here.
  11. Are we finally going to beat these guys?
  12. Crisp broke the wrong way on that leadoff hit. He does that a lot. He's a terrible CF. Occasionally, he makes a sparkler, but his speed is not really much of an asset, because he is always using it to make up for a late break or wrong break on the ball. His arm is just horrific.
  13. Knoblauch is a much better upside than Eckstein. I don't think he has the speed of Knoblauch which was a major weapon when coupled with his OBP.
  14. They should. It will help his development, and they need to see what he can do at this level.
  15. Some power from the little man!! Nice. Good for the kid.
  16. ORS, thank you for realizing that I know how to use the quote button. SFOC, these are message boards where as members we can post our thoughts without responding to another poster. ORS, I have made my case about keeping Nixon many times in the past. If I want to make a case for Nixon or anything else, I'm not shy about making it. I was merely making a comment on the game. I frequently will make comments like "Gonzo would have made that play." It's just commentary. Since you have brought up the merits of Nixon staying with the Red Sox, these are my thoughts. While he's not what he used to be, he is still a hell of a RF, and he can still manage to get himself on base more often than most of our guys. I just think they should keep an open mind about keeping him around if the price is right. He didn't look for huge bucks on his last extension when he had a much healthier record behind him. Maybe he realizes that he is no longer a full time player and is willing to accept a platoon or 4th OF role. We just don't know. I just hope the FO shows him the courtesy of sitting down and talking with him when the season ends, and not treat him the way they treated Lowe who they never even contacted. BTW: On a trip to Baltimore last year, I met a guy that knew Trot's family, and they told me that Nixon comes from a very wealthy family. If that's true, maybe he is not looking to squeeze every cent out of the game. He seems to be a very centered guy that isn't looking to uproot his family with unnecessary upheaval.
  17. Wily Mo doesn't get that ball.
  18. I am glad Theo is back as GM, but I thought it was a hissy fit when it happened. It's just my opinion and characterization. I don't know if I was the only one calling it a hissy fit, but I am pretty sure others were calling it a temper tantrum.
  19. Youk also botched the bunt allowing the second and third situation. That coupled with his statements about the booing fans and Youk is not having one of his better weeks.
  20. I am not going to lay it all at their feet' date=' but I am not going to absolve them of all blame. Injuries made things much worse and compounded the FO's bad moves to result in an embarrassing team. When a team has stars for the ages like Manny and Ortiz that are still in the prime of their careers, I believe that you build around those assets to win now. When these guys are over the hill or gone, mark my words that it will be decades before you see their like again, if ever. I don't care what kind of players they are growing on the farm. It's a million to one shot that they are grooming guys that will be as good as these two. Every great team needs a strong core of stars to build around. The Sox still have two of the best. It's nice to have a good farm to keep a team stocked with deep talent, but Stars or centerpieces likes these guys are rare commodities. In the 70's the competitive teams were built around Yaz (HOF), Rice (HOF Deserving), and Lynn. In the 80's the competitive Sox were built around Clemens (a sure fire Hall of Famer). In the late 90's the competitive teams were built around Pedro. In 39 years of rooting for the Sox, only one HOF pitcher was produced by the farm and that was Clemens. The only other players from the farm that even compare to Rice and Yaz were Nomar and Boggs, and neither were the forces that Rice and Yaz were. In my experience, it is very rare for guys like this to come out of your own system. If you have stars of this caliber, whether they come from within or outside the organization, they have to be built around to win while you have them. You just don't kn ow when you will get stars like this again.
