    Well if you want to get down to stats, there are many more situations when the winning run is on first, second or at the plate than on 3rd base. Also, the only time a pitcher might possibly want to face Ortiz with the winning run on third would be with 2 outs. With no out or one out, the pitcher would fear Ortiz, because he is more likely to drive the ball far enough to get the runner in. So let's recap. All pitchers would fear Ortiz more than Jeter if the winning run was on any base with less than 2 out; all pitchers would fear facing Ortiz more than Jeter with the winning run on first, second or at the plate with 2 out; and not all pitchers would fear Ortiz more than Jeter if the winning run was on third and 2 outs. In conclusion, Ortiz is more feared than Jeter in clutch situations.

    If the Phillies get the WC the point is moot, but if they don't you will still not hear the argument that he's not worthy, because he's not up against the Yankees and their media machine.

    His team will be eliminated. It will finish further out in their division than the Red Sox, and his defense is a minus for his team. The Phillies would be better off if he was a DH. BTW: When the Phillies get eliminated, you still won't hear anything negative about him being the MVP

    I am not sold on Ervin Santana. He reminds me too much of Ramon Ortiz when he was with the Angels. Also, he hasn't made much progress this year over last year. There are too many dead spots and question marks in the batting order. Tek is on the decline offensively. Gonzo is not in the lineup for offense. Crisp is not an offensive force. Pedroia is yet to prove that he can hit consistently at the ML level. With that many question marks and dead spots, this would be a third place team IMO without the duo of Manny and Ortiz.
