  1. I think it is a wonderful change of strategy. Keep trading productive all-star quality players for mediocre minor league prospects. Go Cashman!
  2. All I know is that I won't miss that feeling that I used to get that he was going to knock down the monster. It won't be as scary against the Tigers.
  3. I know he has had the back surgery once and come back from it. I think Wells came back from it twice. If healthy, I think that despite his reduced velocity he would still be good enough to win 15-18 games with a low 4's ERA.
  4. He got rid of a pitcher that won 34 games over the last 2 years and beat the Red Sox in 7 out of 8 decisions. Oh BTW he's going to the HOF. They got a mediocre 32 year old reliever and 3 so-so prospects. Yea for me. They also got rid of an OF that averaged 31 HRs and 125 RBI over the past 3 years prior to his injury. For this likely HOF they got some prospects' date=' one of whom might make the 2007 bullpen. Yea for me. They got rid of an 11 game-winning starter for a fatso middle reliever that will pitch in a mopup role. Too bad he can't hit a lick. He's probably a step down from Phillip's bat.
  5. But he hasn't shown any consistency to hold down the closer's role.
  6. It makes it even harder to win the WS if you don't make the playoffs. The Yankees were the best team in the post-season tournament this year. They should have rolled over the competition, but they went flat, choked or whatever. I am glad that within a few short months after the Yankees were being heralded as a juggernaut with one of the best lineups in history that Cashman is dismantling that team. I hope he moves ARod next.
  7. That's a good point. Other than Manny there aren't too many guys left from that team. Ortiz only played in 3 of the 5 games that Clemens pitched that year and only two of his losses. Ortiz was a factor in only one of the three games that he played against Clemens. Clemens will not get off as easy against Papi the next time around if there is a next time. In case you haven't noticed, Ortiz has become a major offensive force since then.
  8. Is this where we play role reversal and I remind you of the string of AL East Championships?
  9. Oh you mean Clemens. That's right. The Yankees have the inside line on Clemens, especially since they rid themselves of Randy Johnson. Well, if you are right about that and he does pitch for the Yankees in 2007 and he pitches for them prior to July, keep in mind that he was only 6-5 against the Red Sox while in a Yankee uniform. In his last year as a Yankee, he was 2-3 with an 8.67 ERA. That's even worse than Unit's 2006 7+ ERA against the Red Sox. What makes you think that Clemens will be any more effective against the Red Sox now that he's three years older? Bring him on.
  10. Let me know when that happens. Who do you have in mind ... Jeff Weaver?
  11. Another move backward by the Yankees. So far this offseason, the Yankees haven't made one move that made me say "Damn!" They usually make at least two of those moves every off-season.
  12. Let me know when that happens.
  13. If Beckett beats the Yankees at the same rate that Unit beat the Sox, I'll be very happy.
  14. That was fun.
  15. I love this deal.
  16. Getting excited about Chris Britton is like us getting excited by Chad Harville.
  17. I don't think you'll know until the last week or so of ST. Piniero will definitely be getting an audition.
  18. I wish this would get done. Get the prospects. Get Unit out of town, and good luck getting Roger.
  19. Hell, I never knew that I was a prospect.
  20. I don't know the source of this quote but it is inherently illogical. Why would this enhance the chances of the Yankees getting Clemens? If the Yankees wanted to go after him, were they any less likely to get him because Johnson was on the team? Presumably, the Yankees have more than enough money to pay Johnson and Clemens. If they wanted Clemens, the only thing impeding their chances of getting him is whether Houston wants him and the Rocket chooses to stay home, or he chooses to exploit the ,marketing opportunities in NE. These impediments remain whether or not Unit stays. I might agree that the Yankees will be more likely to pursue Clemens if Unit is traded, but if they want Clemens, trading Unit doesn't "enhance" their chances of getting Clemens.
