    I really like how the fans in RF call out the players names at the start of the Yankee games. I guess fans of a last place team need to do something to amuse themselves.

    Your sarcasm is noted. Ellsbury is the most talented position player in the system, so he should be the one that they hold onto. The others: Murphy, Moss etc are basically trading chips. The point is that very, very few players come up through the organization and make an immediate impact. It's up to the FO to figure out the one or two that will make it and keep only them. It's not an exact science and most organizations are wrong more often than not in making these predictions. That being said if Ellsbury could get you an Andruw Jones-type player under a long term contract, the FO would be foolish not to make the move for the established super star. Right now, there is not a young very talented CF that is under contract beyond this year.

    His bat would be great to have, but we have a DH, and I couldn't see Bonds or Manny holding down RF.

    No, he has quite a bit more offensive talent than Stern. He could get some starts if Crisp slumps or if one of the other OFs get injured. Right now, there is no need for an additional OF er. I was discussing it in the context of a need for a 4th OFer. If we need to call one up, it should be Ellsbury. I realize that there are roster considerations, so they may not want to place him on the 40 man roster, because they would have to drop someone.

    I don't know, but I do know that this team will not go wire to wire without hitting any bumps along the way. The bumps can derail things if a team is not deep enough. I am just looking at the weak spots. I would expect the roster at the end of the year to be different than it is now. If they are going to make some moves, I think they should go for another big bat and another starter.

    Randy Johnson is still rounding into form, and he has looked progressively better with each start. He'll probably finish with an ERA under 4. With the backing of the Yankee offense, he would have won 15+ games. Yesterday's 11 Runs would have been enough for him last night. I am glad he's gone. Vizcaino will not replace the 15 wins that you sent away. The prospects they got for him are little more than a bag of balls. I don't expect that any of them will ever make an impact with the Yankees.

    We've been fortunate healthwise. There will be some injuries during the year. The question is weather this team is deep enough to weather the bad times. We still need to plug the 5th spot in the rotation with someone reliable. Up until now, the 5th slot has not been that crucial. It will become more important as the dog days approach with few of any off days and the Double Headers start to come. The lineup is not very deep. A slump by one or two of the bigs guys exposes the weak bottom half. They should look to add another big bat.

    I posted it here last year that he built his stats on the likes of the Nationals. The few times he faced teams that could hit like the Red Sox, he got his head handed to him.

    You can't be so stupid to think I was comparing him to Billy Rohr? The comparison that I made was to Arroyo with regard to his stuff. I mentioned Rohr as an example to show that throwing a no hitter for 7 or 8 innings in your first or second start is not any indicator of future success. I wasn't comparing the two pitchers or their stuff. The last guy to do it for the Yankees in his first start for the Yankees a few years ago has gone into oblivion.

    Base hit by Johjima and a double by Betancourt and Seattle takes a 10-8 lead. Igawa gave up 8 runs in 4 innings.
