    What do you think about Octavio Dotel and Kevin Milwood? Both have been throwing well lately, and they should come cheap. I think they would be upgrades. When Schilling returns, Tavarez could go to the pen further upgrading the pen. Edit: What about Armando Benitez? He's been throwing over 95 mph regularly recently.

    There is 3 years at $25 million/year on the current contract. That has to stay intact to get the $36 million from Texas. No teamwould come up with more than $25 million/year on the free market, so ARod has a pretty sweet deal through 2010. The Yankees would agree to a new contract extension beginning in 2011 for another 3 or 4 years at $30 million or so per year. The next 3 years would cost the Yankees only $39 million-- a bargain. The yankees would make up for this bargain by paying top dollar on the extended years.

    Boras has a very good idea of ARod's value on the open market, and he knows that the Yankees are one of the few teams that can afford him. With $36 million from Texas, the yankees will be able to put together a package that will meet Boras's expectations.

    If he opts out, the Yankees will not negotiate with him and that would take out one of the few teams that could afford him. I think the Yankees extend him and use the $30 million from Texas to help them do it.

    If Schilling comes back and pitches like Schilling, but last year we were waiting for Wells and Clement to return. Do you see the point? You can't count on old guys coming off the DL with arm problems. Maybe Schilling comes back and pitches lights out, but maybe he doesn't. There's too much riding on that uncertainty. The FO should hedge against that uncertainty by making some moves. After last year's second half debacle, the FO cannot afford not to make some moves. Making the playoffs and going out in the first round will not be a successful season for this team. As far as your statements about the improved bullpen, well... it might be improved, but it is still a two man pen, and that's not good enough.

    Let's compare this years pitching to last years. This years staff has added Dice K, but Schilling has blown a tire to this point. Our 4th and 5th starters right now are Tavarez and Gabbard. Last year at this time the 4th and 5th starters were Lester and a merry go round of s***. Last year's bullpen was Papelbon. This year it is Papelbon and Okajima. Do you really think this improvement makes us World Series contenders? Our record doesn't bear it out.

    Not lifeless. It's batless. The FO needs to get a bat. Drew is the vagina that we heard about. He's not a big time bat, regqardless of what his stats show. No pitcher in his right mind would throw to Manny or Ortiz with Drew behind them. Drew should be moved with his OBP to the first or second slot in the order.
