I think we are talking about a bill that easily could be between $10-20 million. That's a big hit for anyone.

There was no one that was part of those negotiations: the Yankees, ARod, Boras, and the mysterious liaison that did not have the common interest of making the Yankees look good and ARod look like he loves NY.

Between the three of them I'd be surprised if you get 375- 400 innings. That just won't cut it for three spots in your rotation. I am basing this on my opinion that rookies have a very hard time getting beyond 150 innings as a starter in their rookie years, and I fully expect one of them to bomb out.

Joba either will be back in the bullpen, on the DL, or in the minors by June 15th. I think it is most likely that he'll be in the pen, because the pen will need help, and Joba will get knocked around as a starter.

The yankees need starting pitching and they need to get younger. I am not talking about putting into the rotation 3 kids with the combined ML starting experience of less than 1/2 year. Re-signing ARod until age 42 for more than a quarter of a billion dollars, Posada until age 41, and Lowell for 4 years to age 38 does not help the Yankees accomplish either of their needs.

It's clear that Yankees bid against themselves here. They look more stupid than the Rangers when they signed him to the 10 original 10-year deal. At least he was young when he signed that deal.

It's funny. The Marion Jones plea conviction came out of the same investigation. Bond has more resources than Jones and he is likely not to plead out, but you would have to think the Feds are trying to build a more solid case against Bonds than they did against Jones.
