  1. A weak response after more than a day and a half wait. Jay, I expected something much better.
  2. I love it when the Yanks pick up our cast-offs from years ago. In a pinch, he can play CF.
  3. Youkilis is cheap, but yet experienced, and his patient approach and high OBP would help create a lot RBI opportunities for Morneau and Mauer.
  4. This smells like one of those low cost hoping to catch lightning in a bottle moves from 2005 like Wade Miller and Mat Matei. If the team is already re-tooled with young studs, there is no reason to fill with long shot crap like this. Build a pen with healthy arms, and take this team for another run at the big trophy.
  5. Boras's bank account has not taken a hit.
  6. WHat was his velocity like last season?
  7. Legal residence is different than tax residence. If he was claiming to be a Florida resident, he's probably decalring less than half of his baseball compensation as NY income. Half the games are played out of state, and all of ST is out of state. We don't know the claimed split for his end endorsement income, but I doubt that he would claim that it was all NY income. He's probably excluding at least $10 million each year from his baseball compensation. He's probably excluding another few million of endorsement income. We are talking about $80- 90 million of understated income over 7 years at a minimum. The tax, interest and penalty on that would easily be over $10 million. The tax alone would be about $6 million. He would get hit with a negligence penalty at the very least.
  8. Every one should do what they can do to minimize their tax bill, but a guy with his resources should have had people that were good enough to know better ways to do it. Phony residence is low hanging fruit for the New York State Tax Department. By the way, it is NY, not the IRS, after the NY hero Jeter. When you are as rich and famous as Jeter, you should know that you are likely a potential target for the taxing authorities. They go after prominent people for the deterrent effect. He's a tax cheat. It doesn't matter if every one else does it. He's going to get convicted for it. It's like driving over the blood-alcohol limit. Lots of people have done that, but those who get caught are criminals. Sorry, but your icon is a tax cheat. If he wants to pony up the full freight with penalties and interest, they will not charge him with fraud or a crime. If he wants to cut a deal on the amount, they may make him publicly plea to a criminal conviction in front of the TV cameras. The tax tab will be quite heavy. I think we are talking about a bill that easily could be between $10-20 million. That's a big hit for anyone.
  9. Why? It's called greed. Oversight? He makes millions. He has an agent, attorneys and accountants. They tried to cheat NY, and they got busted.
  10. So, you think that the third party hand-picked by ARod (and probably Boras) to contact the Yankees leaked the story to the press? If that happened, I'd have to think that the third party was instructed by ARod and Boras to leak the information. I'd also have to believe that the third part had a financial interest. There was no one that was part of those negotiations: the Yankees, ARod, Boras, and the mysterious liaison that did not have the common interest of making the Yankees look good and ARod look like he loves NY.
  11. Between the three of them I'd be surprised if you get 375- 400 innings. That just won't cut it for three spots in your rotation. I am basing this on my opinion that rookies have a very hard time getting beyond 150 innings as a starter in their rookie years, and I fully expect one of them to bomb out.
  12. Joba either will be back in the bullpen, on the DL, or in the minors by June 15th. I think it is most likely that he'll be in the pen, because the pen will need help, and Joba will get knocked around as a starter.
  13. He's tax-cheating scum, cheating the New Yorkers that love him so much.
  14. If Drew can get $14 million/yr for 5 years, IMO Lowell is worth $17/year million for 3 yrs.
  15. He likes you he really likes you. But why would that matter? Baseball is his livelihood, and he's more than willing to sell an autographed baseball for $499 to every single one of "the greatest fans in baseball" to show his appreciation.
  16. I think 3 yrs $51 million would get it done.
  17. If they have succeeded in flipping his trainer, he could provide more than enough evidence that Bonds participated in his Steroid program.
