    He hasn't made that conclusion, but he correctly states that as of this point in the season there have been no notable accomplishments by the off-season acquisitions.

    ...and Penny's command has sucked. I'm just saying that I am not going to be shocked if the periodic shutdown scenario occurs. It is very common in these cases. If he returns healthy and productive, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

    ...and so it begins. This is what happens when a pitcher is coming back from shoulder surgery. The first time they shut the guy down it is called a bump in the road. The second shutdown will be followed by a medical evaluation, and the third shutdown will spell the end of his season. I'm not expecting much from Smoltz.     You're right. No need for snark. Bad cold and fatigue got the best of me. We agree that Lester has been sucking and they need him to pitch like a top of rotation guy.

    I am suggesting the possibility that the time he took to develop a new pitch caused the refinement of his existing arsenal to suffer. Is that hard to follow? How do you do on standardized tests? Am I right? I don't know, but I didn't think he needed to develop a changeup when he was just starting to dominate league batters. If the league had already adjusted to his stuff and the new changeup hasn't kept him ahead of those batting adjustments, then maybe he is just an average pitcher. IMO, he needs to go back to throwing strikes like he did last year. Batters haven't stopped swinging at his borderline pitches. Last year, he got lots of called third strikes. In the Yankee game that he lost in September (despite having pitched beautifully), it's my recollection that most of his k's were looking.

    He's not throwing strikes with the regularity that he was throwing them at the end of last season. I don't think it has anything to do with the hitters making an adjustment to him.

    Lester is back to pre-May 2008 form. He messed around with developing that f***ing Change-up and he lost the precision control that he had developed in the last 4 months of last season.

    He's right about this. That condescending self-important fat pig know-nothing Francessa was screaming that they should have gone after Ellsbury in his next AB. Francessa is just a cry-baby when the Yankees are losing, especially to the Red Sox.
