    I'm not doubting the guy or looking to bash him. I was not offering any opinion about him at all. I was just attempting to engage in some informal discussion during some down time before we get close to game time. I don't think everything has to be a debate requiring support with statistical links and proof, etc.

    Maybe you are. I wasn't building an anti-JD case or anything, and I wasn't going to use your answer as an"Ah Ha" or "Gotcha". I was just wondering how you would feel about it from one frequent poster to another who have had lots of discussions. So, I'm not quite sure why the question elicits hostility from you. I know it would make my head explode if he asks out of one of these games. Just forget it. I never know what is going to anger you.

    Read the papers. Do your own research. Francona talked about it in his press conference after the specific game. He told him that he had to stay in.

    ...and J.D. has never asked out of a big game? Okay, so you don't want to think about him asking out of the playoffs. We both hope that he never does, and I don't think he ever would, but I know how I would feel about it if he did. Perhaps you are not as in touch with your emotions as I am.

    So, I am curious. Is it that you don't want to even think about how you will feel about because it would be too upsetting. Not quite sure why you would speculate about Francona platooning but not about this? :dunno:

    Grasping at what straws? I don't know what you are talking about. I like J.D. and I love when he is in the lineup. I have no anti-JD agenda. We have already discussed how we would feel if Tito platoons Anderson with JD... right? We agreed that I would pay for your plane ticket and sneak you into the country to prevent that. I love Tito. He pisses me off at times, but he is at the top of my list of favorite managers. Whether he platoons JD in the ALDS is hypothetical, yet we both have an opinion about that. There is the possibility (yes hypothetical) that JD asks out for some soreness, not necessarily an injury. I'm just asking how you would feel about that. What's the BFD? You are a smart guy, so I know the question is not too difficult for you. Doji is another story. Are we not allowed to even speculate about JD on this forum? He did ask out of a big game once this season where francona told him that he had to stay in and then he it a HR, so it's not like he's never done it before.

    It's always a possibility with him. In past seasons we had other OFers who could step in if he bowed out, so it wasn't a huge issue., although last season he did sit Drew in a game and Crisp and Ellsbury played. What kind of crazy platoon was that? Ellsbury played RF and he is a lefty like Drew. I have to think Drew's Va-jay-jay acted up. If he opts out and we have to watch Anderson or Gaithright, would that bother you?

    I like the guy, but I have to say that I will be really ticked if he asks out of one of the ALDS games and we have to watch Anderson or Gaithright be overmatched. What about you?

    How will you feel about him if he asks out of one of the ALDS games due to some random soreness?

    I think the guy is a very very good player, but not great. It does bother me when he asks out of games for aches and tightness. In this ALDS, we essentially have no back up OF. Anderson and Gaithright are not options. The Angels have 2 lefty starters. If Drew asks out of one of those games, I will forever refer to him as Nancy. I will not care if he wins the strongest man competition someday. He'll still be Nancy to me. The brittle Baldelli has to go. I don't want him back next season. We need a 4th OF who doesn't need to take a half a bottle of Advil to PH and who has to be placed in a hyperbaric chamber if he plays two games in a row. The absence of his bat in this series could be significant.

    That would not be inconsistent with my hatred of the Dodgers.

    On another note, a lot of us like Baldelli and would like him to succeed, but he is not a reliable 4th OF. Even with his limited playing schedule he managed to fnd his way to the DL twice, and now he is a no-go for the playoffs. There were other times where he couldn't finish games due to fatigue.

    So then you agree that if Drew comes to Tito before, during or after one of the games complaining of a tight quad, hamstring, groin etc, that Tito should just tell him that there is no one else and that he is not coming out of the lineup. I don't care if Drew has to go out there with 1 less limb.

    I'll pay your fare. Of course , it would be in cash so nothing could be traced to me. I'll hook you up with some phony papers so you can slip in and out of the country without getting caught.

    Baldelli will also not be on the roster and the Sox are expected to carry both Anderson and Gaithright. I hope Drew doesn't get a case if vaginosis. We may need to kidnap Anderson so Tito can't platoon him with Drew and play him against Saunders.

    Either way, I have a soft spot for them because of it.

    I hate all that is Dodger. I have a soft spot for the Cards for rolling over in 4 games in 2004.

    Randy Wolfe is pretty pale looking too.

    I don't understand all this arguing about JD. He hit the Grand Salami in Game 6 of the 2007 ALCS. He's a really good player, but not worth $70 million for 5 years. That doesn't mean we can't make fun of him when he asks out of games. Someone calls him Nancy and people pop a blood vessel. Do we have to be so serious?
