This is the kind of thing that 228 was woried about. Girardi makes a stupid illogical move that costs the team a game. In a short series, that could be very bad news.

They had better start to realize that there is a substantial gap with the Yankees that needs to be closed.

I really think that at 43 he is really starting to break down physically. This year was his back. He has had shoulder problems in past years and he has a torn labrum that has not been repaired. I think his reliability will decline. It's time to move on.

I'm really hoping that Wakefield hangs it up. His body is falling apart. They may be fixing his back, but he still has a torn labrum. His durability is a big issue. We can't have him pitch through July and then crap out in the second half of August.

Am I supposed to be encouraged by the fact that he can't beat the .500 teams and he pitches worse against sub-.500 teams?

Penny and Smoltz? How low do you want to set the bar. How about Jason Johnson?

This is a good team with a good offense and sound defense. If he pitches well, he should get victories-- even against the good teams. 16 Starts with a 4.21 ERA is not very convincing to me.

Buchholz had 1 victory against a team with a .500 record. I'm not sold on him yet.

Kershaw is the Dodgers game 1 starter? If that's the best they have to offer, they are going down sooner than I thought. Originally I predicted the Phillies in 6 games. i don't see it going more than 5 games.

Mark Prior would be a very low risk move.

Reddick needs more seasoning. Coco's shoulder has been repaired. I don't think we need to worry that it will affect his throwing arm, because he never could throw. It will not affect his two biggest skills-- his base running skill and his fly-catching ability.

If the Yankees do not win the Championship, I expect that they will continue to break the bank for FAs-- maybe they sign Lackey and Bay. I also wouldn't be surprised if they took a run at King Felix if they think he is available.
