    Other than Theo, Lucchino and the owners I am pretty sure that I make more money than the rest of the FO. I've seen the salaries of some of the other GM's around baseball, and I know I make more than some of them, so no thanks to the cut in pay. How much do you get paid to keep flunking accounting? My tax dollars are probably supporting you.

    You will always assume the FO made the right decision. To you they are infallible. No one is infallible. I look at the facts as we know them and the outcome. The FO had exclusive access to Tex at the time and they didn't get the job done. They have walked away from deals over a few million in the past. In 2006, they walked away from the table because Philly wouldn't agree to eat enough of Abreu's contract. Well, we know what happened. So, don't say that they wouldn't be stupid enough to walk away from a deal over a few million. They've done it before.

    Regardless of Boras credibility issues, the Sox owners had him in a room and made him an offer. He countered and they left the room. That is not how a salesman closes. That's how he loses a sale.

    As I have said all along, Boras confirmed that the Sox owners had Tex in a room, and Tex made them an offer. The owners got up from the table and walked away.     If Theo thinks he can pull off a 3-way deal involving two huge young studs like Gonzalez and Felix, he's going to find himself in a big circle jerk getting neither of them, and if he's not careful and it drags on too long, he could miss out on Halladay, Lackey and Holliday.

    Sure the Sox can compete with the Yankees in the FA market. Maybe they can't get into a bidding war with them, but they can certainly compete with them in building a team from Free Agency. The Yanks are locked into an IF of Tex, Cano, Jeter and ARod. If a big name IF were to hit the market, I couldn't see the Yankees competing with us. There are always plenty of good OFers to go around. Look at the steal the Angels got with Abreu. The Yankees can only have one big name at each position. There are plenty of other players to go around. Edit: So stop whining. It is unseemly for you big guy.

    The Red Sox are a top 5 franchise at worst. I think they are #2 as a money making entity. Who are we to complain when there are 25 teams that are worse off. This is like two rich guys arguing over who is richest. I remember Barbara Walters did separate interviews with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. She asked Hope if he was the richest man in Hollywood. He adamantly answered "no" and he identified Bing Crosby as the richest star in Hollywood. When Crosby was interviewed, he said that Hope had more money and that Fred MacMurray probably had the most of anyone in Hollywood. Who cares! We are in no position to cry poverty. It's a cop out.

    I have disdain for everything to do with the Yankees, but I'll never be caught whining about their finances. I root for a big market team that for decades tried to convince its fans that it was a small market team, but after 5+ years of sell outs at the highest ticket prices in baseball plus countless other new income streams and the current ownership can't sell that one with a straight face, nor do they try to their credit. Those of you who make the argument seem like a bunch of sour grapes whiners. You have no reason to whine. The FO didn't put out a good enough team to compete with the Yankees, and that was obvious before the teams started ST.

    It's got nothing to do with letting it go. It has to do with comparing the performance of the Yankee FO to the performance of ours. It has to do with evaluating a philosophy of not going after the the big FA and opting to go the trade route. IMO, getting a top player through a trade is more costly.

    I think they have to make the big play for him. My point is that in the end, getting Tex would probably be cheaper than getting Gonzalez, because of what he will cost in prospects.

    I think it is also doubtful that we can land Adrian Gonzalez who is the one star that SD has and he is still very young. Unfortunately for the Sox, in a year when they need to add some big pieces, the FA market contains almost no top tier talent. It was the same story after 2006, when the Sox paid a king"s ransom for second tier talent. Last year when the market was loaded they sat on their hands and let all the top guys sign elsewhere. That was very short-sighted.

    The Schilling and Dice K cases are not comparable. Schilllng was an aging star looking for 1 final big pay day. Arizona was not in a position to take such a risk so they gave him to us for a bag of balls. With Dice K there was no team on the other side of that acquisition. The Beckett situation is comparable, but we had to give up an everyday major league ready player in Hanley and we had to be willing to take a salary dump with Lowell. Other than Buchholz, do we have any major league ready budding stars that we could trade. I don't think that the Mariners make the pitcher for pitcher swap. IMO it is more realistic for the Sox to pursue Adrian Gonzalez and Halladay.

    Whining about the Yankees economic advantage is not exactly an advanced financial analysis. It would be difficult for such a discussion to be over anyone's head. It is boring, whiny and pointless. I didn't take any shots at your political views. I only noted where I think the current political regime is headed-- a global government that sacrifices the sovereignty of the US. You were a big B.O. supporter during the campaign, so I was wondering I how you felt about their direction. How do you process that as a disapproval of compassion etc.? That's a little bit wacky. How many charities are there to which you contribute your time and resources? I do quite a bit of charity work, and I generously contribute cash and property to a number of charities.

    I wanted to inject it into the discussion, so it wasn't needless. You should use accurate terms and descriptions when seeking to insult someone. At least I was raising a topic for discussion and not just making a pointless insult like you did.
