  1. ...and Carlton pitched almost his entire career in the NL without facing DH's. Pitching in the AL in the 70's and 80's added to pitchers' ERAs just as it does today.
  2. I'm old timey. I saw him pitch as a rookie. To this day I have not seen a better curve ball. If someone threw a better curve, he stopped throwing it in 1966-67 when I starting watching baseball.
  3. He's probably out hunting and fishing with his dogs. Not using technology or watching TV doesn't make him a nut. He's nuts just because he's nuts
  4. He does live in Mississippi...doesn't he? How much Red Sox news could be swirling around him?
  5. So then you don't think 300 game winners like Sutton or Niekro belong? The problem is that they are already in as are Jenkins and Catfish Hunter among others. These were Blyleven's peers for part of his career. He should be compared to them. If they are in, he should be in.
  6. It's probably not just you. My wife doesn't care either, but she doesn't care about the Hot Stove Season either, so what's your point?
  7. Blyleven was a great pitcher for a long time. His stats compare very favorably with other HOFers of his era.
  8. Our third catcher will be at Pawtucket.
  9. And people say that my posts are negative. I also am not very confident in how Beltre will perform, but I am happy that it is a 1 year deal. Maybe he'll juice up again and hit 40 HRs.
  10. Ther was no room for him. He had to go.
  11. I'd go with Gomes over Tatis. I agree that we need a RH bat to fill the spot.
  12. If Kotchman gets traded, I'd add another OF in his place.
  13. I can't imagine that there is much of a market for him. They better plant more stories about how he can climb 10 foot walls to catch pop fouls.
  14. This is pretty close to what I think it will be, but what would Kotchman's role be with VMart, Youk and Beltre doing a first/third base rotation. If Kotchman plays, one of those bats has to sit. There is no fielding upgrade over Youk, Beltre.
  15. I like that this is a one-year deal. He will have lots of motivation to perform. They need to round out the roster with a middle IF and another OF and fill in the pen. Kotchman and Lowell are dead weight at this point. They need to go. Those roster spots can be put to better use. The bench should be: 1 MIF, 1 Utility IF, 2 OF, 1 Catcher. There's no room for Kotchman or Lowell.
  16. I read last season that 100-110 games is VMart's max behind the plate, because after that his offense declines.
  17. While I am thrilled to have Beltre in the lineup instead of Casey Kotchman, what will this do to the PT of VMart? VMart really can't catch more than 100 games, if that, but his bat needs to be in the lineup. He will probably play 30 or 40 games at first base pushing Youk across the diamond. There is no room, absolutely no room for Youk or Kotchman.
  18. With Beltre being brought on board, we are back to where we were last season with Kotchman. There is no role for him on this team. With Youk at first and beltre at 3B, there is absolutely no reason to have an LIDR at IB. None. The Sox have to move him and Lowell. They may have to DFA both of them, because we have no leverage. They have to go.
  19. No Loney, not for Buchholz. No way.
  20. But all of those guys in the Tex deal were in the majors within 1 1/2 years after the trade. They were pretty close to ready whether or not the general public was aware of them.
