  1. Aurilia is a NY kid. He went to my High School in Brooklyn, which was also the Alma mater of Chris Mullin.
  2. There's not really much to discuss until they open camp, and this is a prospect thread, so what's your problem with discussing who will make the team and when?
  3. I set the terms on my own over/under bet. I consider most bullpen pitchers to be filler, not major contributors. Guys that pitch 50-60 innings in a year have to be really special to be considered major contributors. Edit: Do want to reconsider your over/under projection?
  4. So, you are taking the over.
  5. I think the over/under set at 3 is very reasonable. In the period for 2006 to 2008, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lester, Youkilis, and Papelbon all emerged to hold down regualr spots. That's five. Who will make the grade from 2010-2012? If they are stuck on the bench behind players like Youk or Ellsbury, they don't count.
  6. Backups don't count. If someone is blocking their way at the major league level, that's too bad. Yaz kept generations of prospects from being major league starters. I established the over/under bet. I set the criteria. If you want to make a prediction based on that criteiria, fine.
  7. That would put you at 3 (in bold), so you wouldn't win or lose.
  8. No, I'm not counting bullpen arms count except for closer. Bullpen regulars other than closer are pretty rare. The expected tenure by a non-closer is pretty short if you look at the turnover in our pen over the last several years, and most of them are not major contributors. Also, no current Sox like Bard or Buchholz count. Only guys not currently in the big league who come up through the Sox system count. I hope that clarifies the bet.
  9. If you set the over/under too high, no one would take the over. We are not talking about guys merely making the roster. I am refering to guys that are regulars. Shall we start the clock running? By the beginning of 2013, you are betting that 4 or more guys will emerge from the Sox minor league system to claim starting jobs in the lineup or starting rotation. We shall see.
  10. Because it would make his new Employer look like fools. Do you really think he would be so stupid and indiscreet? I don't
  11. If the Mets didn't examine him thoroughly, that would make the Mets and Bay unlikely sources of the MRI report. That would leave...
  12. Not a big bopper among them, with the possible exception of Berkman, who is damaged goods. Mauer has been taken off the board.
  13. Does he become a FA after this season?
  14. Well, there goes the crown jewel for the 2010 off season. I expect Pujols will stay with the Cards. No big bats will be hiting the market next season. They should have made a bigger play for Matt Holliday, IMO.
  15. As slow as he was last year, he had 2 SBs
  16. If he gets a good jump, he could make it standing up.
  17. VMart did very well catching the knuckleball. Other than catching third strikes, it is probably not that important. Couple Wakefield's slow pitch and Vmart's below average arm, Prince Fielder could run wild on us. No one is getting thrown out.
  18. You take everything as a criticism of the FO. I never said that there is anything wrong with 3 players producing at the ML level. I just said that the list is subjective, and people should not read too much into it. The stock of prospects rises and falls dramatically from year to year. If Lars Anderson has another year like last year, he drops out of the top 200. If he has a good year, he could jump to top 20. I think we'd be lucky to have 3 guys from the system make it to the majors and be productive in 3 to 5 years (probably closer to 5 years). It takes time to develop these kids. I think it is a long shot that we have more than 1 or 2 of these kids producing as regulars by 2012. In the mean time, there will be a big turnover in the current roster that will leave more than 2 holes (probably more like 4 or 5 holes) that will need to be filled through trade or FA. It's a comment not a criticism.
  19. It's ridiculous. They are going to commemorate a Championship won in a community that they left. The Dodgers leaving Brooklyn tore the soul from that community. They have no right to celebrate or commemorate something that is Brooklyn's. This ownership group is not the group that left Brooklyn. At least they would have had the argument that they owned the team when it was in Brooklyn so it was their accomplishment. This ownership group bought the Los Angeles Dodgers. Please stop profiting from the community that you ruined.
