  1. I am glad that I missed this game. If there are articles on the umpiring with plot graphs, it was borderline scandalous (maybe even scandalous). It would have aggravated me more than my job did today.
  2. More about the umpire's suck: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/05/dale_scotts_str.html
  3. Maybe these bad umps train those Yankee pilots. I should post that in the Uplifting Thread.
  4. Bad umpiring is aggravating, but I lived through the non-interference call on Ed Armbrister in the 1975 World Series, so I don't get that worked up about bad calls unless it can be shown that an ump is crooked. That kind of stuff (i.e., bad umpiring) evens out in the end.
  5. All of a sudden watching the games means something.
  6. One pitch should not be the difference.
  7. I didn't get to see any of it today, but blaming the umps is for losers. We should have beat that sorry ass team like a drum.
  8. They missed an opportunity to pick up a game on the Yanks in the loss column. Things seem to be coming together a bit for the Sox at home. Let's see how they do on the road where they were horrendous last year.
  9. It's always nice when a bad call comes in a crucial game-deciding moment.:thumbdown
  10. I missed the last inning. Was the third strike on Ortiz a bad pitch on the 3-2 count?
  11. I learned this unwritten rule from my father when Bob Moose no-hit the Mets in 1969. We were at that game. He told me that you are not "supposed to" bunt to break up a no-hitter. It's funny. I was rooting for the Mets, but because my Dad explained how rare it was to witness a no-hitter I was rooting for the no-hitter at the end. I wasn't the only one. I recall that the Met fans gave him a nice round of applause as many were rooting for him at the end. We weren't concerned that our guys didn't try to get on with a bunt. I've been to hundreds of games since then, but I have not seen a no-hitter since that day. I'm glad that no one bunted. P.S The Mets won the World Series that year
  12. :lol:My point was not to convince anyone that my dad is a wise man, but only to illustrate that this unwritten rule has been around since he was a kid, back in the days of Ruth and Gehrig.
  13. Oh, okay this is a cheerleader thread. Accuracy is not permitted. Got it.
  14. ... and Scutaro is a good click below average speed.
  15. I phrased that poorly. Because of his position, he is slightly below average, as MIFs are usually some of the faster players in baseball.
  16. Taking into account that he is a MIF, he is only slightly below average.
  17. My dad, age 91, taught me that it was bush league. It may be unwritten, but some of those unwritten rules are adhered to more than the written rules (e.g. the size of the strike zone). This unwritten rule has been around for a very long time. There are a few exceptions. One exception is if the game is close, and the team being no-hit is fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season.
  18. The reason why they are 9th in runs despite being higher in the other categories is due to a lack of speed as well as poor situational hitting. Without Ellsbury, this lineup is full of slugs. VMart, Lowell, and Ortiz are painfully slow. Pedroia is a little below average as is Youk. Hermida is no gazelle either. The team is terrible at going first to third and second to home. It takes too many hits to score runs at times.
  19. It's a surprising statistic, especially in light of the OF injuries. Scutaro has reversed the drag that the SS position was on our offense. Varitek playing out of his mind Beltre hitting like an animal are also responsible for this suprising stat. They will come back to earth, but VMart, Ellsbury and Ortiz should pick up their pace.
