  1. But, but, but, he's not as awesome as Werth!
  2. We can only hope.
  3. You're right. I underestimate myself sometimes.
  4. Victim card? I asked you, if you were getting pissy? If you want to talk about your perception of my mentality or how I will react in the future, I'm not interested in that. I simply asked you why you would be upset if the Sox paid Crawford his fair market value. You said that he is not worth $20 million. Neither of us establishes the market for players. The GMs do that. They are knowledgeable business men. If Crawford has 2 offers on the table for $20 million per year and before he signs one of the contracts he gets run over by a drunk Bill Gates permanently crippling him, the court would most assuredly grant him a judgment for $20 million per year, because that is his value as established by the market place. They will not take into consideration that Bill James thinks he is worth far less. That's the way market value is determined. I'm sorry if you don't like that answer, but that's how it works. The marketplace determines value. We shall see how they value Crawford relative to Werth.
  5. Different talents have different values. Crawford's set of talents are more unique making them more valuable in my opinion. We'll have to see how it plays out.
  6. Baseball exces are sophisticated businessmen. If two or more of them would pay $20 million for him that would establish his FMV in any court in the U.S.
  7. This isn't directed at "no one in particular"? What did you tell me about making assumptions? Let's keep it to the issues and not your perception of what my emotional reaction would be if he didn't work out. BTW: If it didn't work out, it would be the FO that would be accountable, not some fans on a message board. Of course if he were to suck, we'd notice. Are we supposed to pretend that it worked out if he clearly bombs? I don't even understand where you are going with that one.
  8. Why do you care so much if Crawford gets 20 million if that is what MLB excecs think he is worth? It's not like that $5 million extra for him will send the Sox to financial ruin. Heck, they have thrown away tens of millions on bad contracts in recent years and it didn't financially cripple them, e.g. Lugo, Renteria, and to a lesser extent Lowell and Dice K. I could understand if the Sox were to pay $5 million more per year than the next highest offer, because they would be setting the market. I'm not sure why you would be upset if they get him for market price. The guy is tremendous offensive weapon.
  9. The Mets might take less prospects for Reyes if we agree to take Beltran as a throw in.
  10. I'd rather have the fat Molina brother.
  11. I know that Mauer has had a bad and shoulder trouble from time to time, but i have not read or heard about him having a hip problem. Certainly, he has not had a hip fracture and torn labrum like Martin has.
  12. I am not aware of any catchers that came back to play effectively after a hip injury.
  13. Martin is a great catcher, but he has a bad hip. Why get a guy that will reside on the DL? That's just not a good option.
  14. Possible Roster: C - A.J. Pierzinski C - Salty 1B- Berkman 2B- Pedroia SS- Scutaro 3B- Youkilis Util- Lowrie Util- Hall/Lopez OF- Crawford OF- Ellsbury OF- Drew OF- Cameron DH- Ortiz P - Lester P - Buchholz P - Beckett P - Lackey P- Dice K CL- Papelbon SU- Bard LR - Downs LR - Dubront RR -Atchinson R - Open R - Open
  15. The more I look at his stats the more I think getting Lance Berkman for 1 season would not be a bad thing.
  16. Have Phillies made an offer to Werth? This is not solid information but: http://www.buckslocalnews.com/articles/2010/11/29/bucks_sports/doc4cf3ab25dc21b712676088.txt
  17. I have very little hope that Salty can hack it defensively, more likely he'll be a defensive hack. His record for throwing out base runners has been atrocious. Believe it or not but it is significantly worse than VMart and Varitek and even Javy Lopez.
  18. It could be, but we need some insurance in case Salty can't handle the job. Tek has slid into awful a couple of years ago. There just aren't many options on the FA market. Maybe they could acquire Ianetta. The big prize would be if they could acquired Suzuki, but he would cost a bundle, so I don't think it is very likely.
  19. A.J. Pierzsinski isn't a project. As for Russell Martin, we don't need a catcher with a bad hip. There is a reason he is being non-tendered. No thanks to a guy who will be assigned to the MASH unit.
  20. ... And right after you get Crawford get a starting catcher. I don't like so called "projects". I don't care how much talent they have. No one had more talent than Wily Mo. Look how that ended. When is the last time that one of these "projects" worked out for the Sox? Please tell me that there were some.
