  1. Theo is going in a lot of directions at the same time. I hope he starts to get some of these things done.
  2. I'm with you on the Soccer part. That sport bores me to tears.
  3. How naive. The purpose of this story is to lower the expectations of its fan base. It is not a statement that they will not try to sign him. You are a lousy propagandist. When I run a baseball franchise, I'll assign you to scouting (if you'll promise to watch the gamez). I will keep you away from the marketing and public relations functions.
  4. Someone from the FO needs to sit down with him and tell him straight out that the team no longer has plans for him. He is delusional if he thinks he can still be a useful pitcher, and the FO is playing the role of the enabler.
  5. Needle or not, it wasn't pleasant watching him win 3 Cy Youngs after he left. He had a pretty good record against the Red Sox, except for 2003. We had to wait for him to go to the NL for us to finally beat the Yanks. He pitched well against us in 2007, but the race was a blow out by the time the Yankees signed him.
  6. This would leave us with a dwindling number of quality first base FA options.
  7. The FO needs to buy him some fishing gear.
  8. I realize that he will not be back. Let's hope that this version of Papelbon doesn't stick it to us for years to come like Clemens did.
  9. The way these things usually go is that we express great interest and then dawdle over the player's price and negotiate, and then the Yankees come in and eat our lunch taking the player while our best offer is left unpresented in Theo's briefcase. Haven't they noticed the pattern yet?
  10. Because Cervelli stinks and he is huge jackass.
  11. I never said that I had a problem spending elite money on AGon. That's not the issue. I just don't understand why people think he is destined for the Red Sox, and why people are so willing to not fill other needs while waiting for him. There's no guarantee he'll even be available. If SD has another successful season and they think he is the face of the franchise and they keep him in SD, we will have suffered through a bridge year to nowhere. We have a first baseman and a damn good one. We need an OF, a third baseman and bullpen. If Beltre will come back for a reasonable contract, we'll have a damn good lineup. If we wait for AGon, it may never happen. A couple of years ago, people thought Theo would eventually bag King Felix, because it was thought that he'd be too expensive for Seattle. He signed a long term extension with Seattle. The same thing could happen with AGon. Until he is available, getting him is a pipe dream, IMO.
  12. Daily Reminder to the FO: Sign Carl Crawford! Regular season tickets go on sale on December 13th. People are not going to be all charged up about spending a bundle to see Mike Cameron playing LF wearing a truss (sp), Jed (I have cough and will miss 3 months) Lowrie playing third base, and a parade of clowns coming in from the pen.
  13. I agree with you about Martin. The Dodgers didn't want to be on the hook for $4.4 million (after the biggest possible cut in arbitration), so they must think his FMV is substantially less. The Sox have thrown away $10 million on the old and injured like Smoltz and Penny. Martin is injured, but young. When healthy, the guy has great tools, and he can also play some third base. He's athletic and versatile. Some would term his acquisition as "low risk high reward.". I would more accurately describe it as a high risk flier which could have a big return. I'd do it. They have Salty as the fall back option. He can go to Pawtucket. With regard to Beltre possibly blocking the way for AGon, I am not sure why so many people think he is sitting on a tee for us. I doubt there will be an in season trade to us, because the GM is going to want the perception that he got fleeced by his old boss or that he is in the tank for his old boss. Second, he will cost a bunch of $. He is going to be looking for a $200 million deal. It's not like this guy is some cheap great find. He's an elite player who is going to want elite money.
  14. A back of the bullpen with Mo, Papelbon and Bard would be unbelievable.
  15. If the Sox are shopping Scutaro is it because they are so confident that Lowrie can fill the job on a full time basis, or do they expect Iglesias to make a splash in the majors in 2011? What do you think their game plan is at SS/
  16. ...and the point of this was?
  17. In answer to #1, I never said that Werth would sign first. Where did you get that? Your question #2 is ridiculous. I present a concern about how the off season is going, and rather than address the issue, you come back with this? Edit: Your question #2 is ridiculous and obnoxious.
  18. The Dunn signing takes an option off the board. The less options available the more intense the competition for the remaining talent will become. Crawford will cost a King's ransom, and if Werth goes for $17 million or more (Holliday money), our FO will have outsmarted itself.
  19. Brandon Duckworth? Good God!!!
  20. People really need to curb the personal name-calling. It leads nowhere good.
