I'm not ignoring how he hits lefties. They got him to be a utility player, not a big bench bat and not a platoon player. As a utility player, he plays all positions poorly. As a bat coming off the bench, I really don't like him as the #1 PHing option off the bench. I'd rather have a Jeff Francuoer or Carlos Quentin for that.

He couldn't crack the starting lineup in KC and his fielding is atrocious. He has botched several plays for the Sox already at 2B, SS, 3B and RF. Did you see how he executed that run down the other night while playing SS. He looked like a little leaguer. Pedroia wasn't brought up from the minors after 2/3 of the season and thrown into a pennant chase and a post season. When he came up in 2006, the team was out of it. And he was terrible in 2006.

Seriously, this team could go into free-fall if Ortiz is out for any length of time. Someone like Youkilis or AGon will need to step up big time to fill that void. Youk is pretty banged up. He's goona need to pop some vicodin, and AGon needs to start hiiting like AGod again instead of this post ASB APussy that he has been hiiting like.

The team is in a collective slump except for Ellsbury and Ortiz and Ortiz is out with an injury. It's a recipe for a losing streak. That's why stoppers like Lester and Beckett are so valuable. They give you a chance to win while the team is slumping.
