  1. I don't think the organization has improved itself at any level over the last three years. I think it has somewhat deteriorated. There really is little if any in the way of major league talent in the farm system. Those that are ready are far from stars or top players at their positions. On the major league roster, in the past offseason, they spent a load of money essentially replacing VMart and Beltre with AGon and Crawford. In the end that swap probably added very little offensively (AGon's awesomeness has been neutralized by Crawford's suckiness), and defensively we got weaker at 3B. Youk's recent serious injury issues have also been a huge factor in the team's failure during the last 2 years. He has an nonathletic body, so maybe he is breaking down earlier than other players. I think it is time for a change of direction in the FO. The organization has been going in the wrong direction over the last 3 seasons. There will be life after Theo. E1, don't be worried that Theo will take your social workers job. He doesn't have your experience.
  2. Aviles' glove is too shaky. Scutaro can play all 3 positions very competently. You can't expect guys who don't get a lot of PT to always hit, but they must not hurt you with the glove. That's my philosophy on utility guys. Offense is gravy from those guys, but the need to make the plays. Edit: If the Yanks win it all, I don't see them buying a big ticket pitcher. I think they will let it ride with CC, Nova, Burnett, Hughes and the killer Bees.
  3. See yall tomorrow to follow the Yanks-Rays. Go Yankees!!! I will now go throw up.
  4. You social workers stick together. I think the starter they should target is CJ Wilson. I wouldn't trade Ellsbury unless they suspect that they will not be able to sign him. There's a lot of work to be done. The bullpen is a shambles except Bard and Paps. Scutaro should stay in a utility role, but we need a starting SS.
  5. They played very poorly at the end. Torre had burned out a lot of his bullpen as usual. However, my recollection is that they were not also injured. The 2011 Sox are playing terribly and they have no one to run out to the mound who doesn't stink, and Youk, our cleanup hitter, is down.
  6. I think Ortiz might go unless he would take a contract that would be a good value. He has not been the problem at all this year. We have sucked when he has been out of the lineup. He has had 2 very good years in a row. This was not a rebound year. I think igf you start loading up the roster with Lavarnway (no position), Kalish and who is etc.? There's not much major league ready talent in the organization, so we can't really go young within the organization. Here's the core that I would keep: Beckett Lester Buchholz Pedroia AGon Ellsbury Papelbon Bard Possibly Ortiz for 1 year I would keep Papelbon, because he is still elite as a closer, and I like him and Bard at the end of games. When Papelbon leaves, we will all be lamenting his absence. He has really spoiled us. He's had one off year, and even that wasn't terrible. Everyone else can go-- including the manager, coaches and GM.
  7. It should not be forgotten that the Yankees played the Mets in the World Series that year. They were a suck ass team. Most Mets fans can't name 5 players from that team and I'll spot them Mike Piazza.
  8. At least Manny was an offensive super power when he was acting like a dick. Even then, he still came close to wearing out his welcome a few times before he left town. Crawford is copping an attitude 1 year into robbing $142 million from the Sox? That doesn't bode well.
  9. Two World Championships in this century. Your team has 1. If you want to live in the last century, go ahead.
  10. The Braves are 4-6 in their last 10 games. To paraphrase Denis Leary, I'd give my left testicle to be 4-6 in our last 10 games. We are 2-13 in our last 15.
  11. They had better target and sign CJ Wilson. The guy is a horse.
  12. I tip my hat to the Yankee organization. If you had told me in March that the Red Sox would be the old injured team that would collapse and not the Yankees, I would have said you were nuts.
  13. We spent a lot more this past offseason than the Yanks and they still beat us.
  14. How close did the 2006 Cards come to blowing a playoff birth?
  15. Really...you think so? What has he been saying?
  16. It's one thing for the DH to be a little chubby, and actually Ortiz has been in better condition the last 2 seasons. Youk is too fat. Jenks is a cow who never got off his couch in the offseason, during spring training or the regular season. Drew is as soft as they come. He just disappeared off the face of the earth. Lackey is trimmed down this season, but his conditioning stinks. As good as AGon is, he needs to drop some weight or he'll be getting nagging injuries in a year or two. Lowrie is a physical wreck, and I am still trying to figure out how you break your back from pitching. Crawford was almost never injured with Tampa, but he pulled a hamstring in his first year here. There definitely is something wrong with the conditioning program. The real problem is that none of the starting pitchers are conditioned to go deep in games-- none of them. A quality start for the Sox needs to get downgraded to 5 innings, 7 runs. It's a joke.
  17. Expectation-wise, this is the bigger collapse. Everyone was assuming a playoff birth from spring training. I am not sure whether the 2007 Mets lost more games in the standings in September than the 2011 Red Sox. That's a close call.
