  1. Yes, I did answer it. In his world there are only two choices. Of course, the organization never gave the slightest indication that they were considering his alternative. I think some might call that a straw man. I reject both of his choices (including the straw man) and offer a different solution/possibility.
  2. Tonight's game I will probably watch with my son over a few cold ones. He's 26 so I can have a drink with him.
  3. What are your plans for opening day?
  4. I had an invitation to Mets opening day, so I was going to DVR the Sox game. However, a friend of mine lost his mom the other day, so it looks like I will be at funeral wake.
  5. No, no, no, you must be proved wrong!
  6. And without provocation, you have been very confrontational today. That's a spade too. A little more Chianti might be in order.
  7. And the term "weasel out of" is not confrontational? Really, go take a midol and a nap, ORS.
  8. Maybe you don't see your own abrasive tone? You often come across as nasty and pricky to me in unprovoked situations. At least I am just a prick, when I feel provoked --notice I used the term "feel" because you will deny being confrontational.
  9. He hasn't had any health issue since 2006. Even Mo Rivera had some health issues early in his career.
  10. That is why he got the money. The Phillies are not a stupid organization. Unlike the Sox, their recent big money acquisitions and FA's have lived up to their billing and no flopped.
  11. I was hoping that this would not be a transitional year. I am still hoping against that. We have so much talent in house that a transitional year makes little sense to me. This team doesn't need major surgery to be a powerhouse. It just needs a few tweaks and additions. I know a lot of people were looking at next year's FA pitching market as a treasure trove, but the good guys are starting to come off the market. Cain is off the market now, and if Hamels gets extended, there will not be a very deep FA pool in 2012.
  12. Agreed, but I do prefer to lower my expectations so the emotional crash will not be too bad.
  13. Honestly, we are at polar opposites on the thought that we are 8 starters deep. I can't even find a middle ground on that.
  14. No need for an apology. This injury to Bailey was a very bitter pill to swallow, especially on the heels of an off season that pretty much everyone has acknowledged leaves us in a situation where good health is critical to the team's success. There isn't a lot of depth, so we need good conditioning and good health over the course of the season. This was not a good start. It will stress a thin staff right out of the gate. People need to vent. I am worried that this pen could be a real train wreck. I didn't like what I saw from Melancon this Spring. The guy does not have great stuff, so his command will need to be excellent. Aceves can't carry the entire pen. Albers looks more and more like an Oriole reject every time that I see him. The rest of the pen is really uninspiring.
  15. Fred isn't irrational, just emotional. Behind all that emotion is a good deal of solid thought and experience.
  16. Capps? No thanks. I don't need to vomit 3 times a week.
  17. It took 50 years for someone to come along who replaced Dick Radatz for dominance, and I'm not comparing them, because the closer role has changed so much in that time. Papelbon also reached 200 saves faster than any pitcher in history. I know some people say that Saves is an over-rated stat, but that is what closers are paid to do. He might be a little more difficult to replace than people think.
