  1. Dick says that he doesn't listen to me because I love bustin balls and playing victim. I have that jackass on ignore, so I don't know what he says unless someone quotes him, but he constantly takes shots at me. What a major jackass!
  2. Some people find it easier to attack the poster rather than the post. It's very unnecessary. As you say, this is a place to float ideas and vent. I don't know why that upsets some people.
  3. It's remarks like this that account for the low opinion that I have of baseball executives.
  4. He has no options left. He can't be sent down. A DL stint means that he will be useless to the team for about a month taking into account the DL and the rehab. If they can't phony up an injury or they don't want to do that, which pitcher would you send down/release to bring up Germano?
  5. Who is we? I haven't read anything where the team is considering this. If he is DL'd for 15 days and then does a rehab stint to regain his effectiveness, they could be without his services for almost a month. I don't think that is the best thing for the team. I don't think the team has any options left on him to send him to the minors. He would never pass through waivers. If they don't DL him, because he has no injury and can't option him, who would you send down to bring up Germano?
  6. I'll ask you the same thing that I asked MVP. If you bring up a guy from the farm to take Bard's starts, which pitcher do you send down to the minors or cut?
  7. You'll have to find someone else to make that sig bet, because I think they will all do better than that.
  8. This is completely true.
  9. I picked up Buchholz for one of my fantasy teams. It's my second shot with him this season. He's probably going to crap all over himself now that I have picked him up.
  10. That's a possibility, but which pitcher gets sent down to make room for him?
  11. I agree that it is trending in the right direction, but 28 out of 30 at the one-third mark is horrendously bad and our place in the standings is reflective of it. If the pitching continues to trend in the right direction ending up in the middle of the pack, the offense should be able to drive this team up in the standings. However, if the pitching stays in the bottom third, they will be in trouble. Developing Bard is not a luxury they can afford.
  12. You think that would be worse than pulling Aceves from the pen. I haqve to disagree with that. I wouldn't totally pull Atch or Morales from the pen. I'd have them pitch 3 or 4 innings each in Bard's scheduled start. They could still be available to pitch a few innings between Bard's starts. Pulling Aceves from the pen would cause tremendous disruption at this point, especially since there is a good chance that Bard will not be very reliable at the outset in the pen.
  13. This is a reality check-- 28th out of 30. It is why we are in last place. We can stomp our feet about not being a last place team, but that's where we are, and if the pitching situation doesn't improve, we will be treading water in the division. 28th out of 30 is horrendously bad after 1/3 of the season. It is worse than I had feared it would be.
  14. I wouldn't screw with a role that has been solidified. I'd rather that Atchison and Morales share Bard's upcoming starts until Dice K is ready.
  15. He has apparently changed his mechanics to be a starter. If he has changed arms slot, etc. You don't just change back over night. These guys do so many reps to get their mechanics where they want them. The process of changing back is the same. The issue is not that it is less difficult than stretching out to be a starter. Granted that is true, but he has screwed up the mechanics that made him successful in the pen. It wasn't the length of yesterday's game that caused Bard an issue. His lack of command in the 1st and 2nd inning blew up the game. With his current mechanics, there is no reason to believe that he would have been any more successful pitching the 8th yesterday than he was in the first inning. There is a chance that they have screwed him up for a while.
  16. No, they are not stuck with Punto. They could bring up Ciracio (sp).
  17. It's an easy call with regard to McDonald. He gets DFA'd. It's a harder call when Ross and Ells return. Byrd would be the first on the chopping block. As between Nava and Pods, I don't know if Nava's OBP will be significantly higher than Pods so as to offset the other things that Pods does well. He is the better fielder and base runner. He's a good bunter and a more well-rounded player. It's a tough call. Over the next month Nava will not get as many walks at the top of the order in front of the big boppers. He'll see a lot of fastballs. He'll have to hit himself on base.
  18. Another problem with this Bard situation is that he may not be immediately successful if they move him back to the pen. He has admittedly gotten away from the things that had made him successful. He's not going to be able to snap his fingers and go back to dominating the 8th inning. The longer the Sox wait, the more trouble he will have re- adjusting to the bullpen.
  19. Valentine says that he is not ready. If he is saying that, I have to believe that Dice K doesn't think he is ready. He is the one who stated that he wasn't ready less than 2 weeks ago. He said that he wasn't close. I haven't read that he thinks he is ready after these last 2 starts.
