It is a measure of power-- a nice thing to have in a lineup. Plus, he is a better hitter than Sweeney besides the HRs. Plus, he is faster and he has a better arm than Sweeney. So, tell me what you like about the trade?
A few comments on last night's game: If the Sox can't pick up ground while playing teams like the A's and the Mariners, they have no chance of mounting a challenge for the ALE division title.
Dice K was red herring from day one of this season. They made the fans look forward to his coming back, and we forgot that he has stunk for the 3 prior seasons.
I have to laugh at Remy saying that Gonzo is red hot with his hitting streak.
I have to laugh about Remy's comment that Gonzo has used every part of the field during his hitting streak. But he hasn't hit any outfield walls, and he only hit 1 ball over a wall.
The team and the announcers are starting to make excuses for losing to inferior teams by praising the opponents pitching etc.
The fact that Salty is batting cleanup in front of Gonzo in July demonstrates what a disappointment Gonzo has been even during this so-called hot streak.
They can get one of the Wild Card spots to play one and out, but who the hell cares. When the hell is this team going to start winning some divisions titles?
Ans. The 2nd inn.
I said early on that Dice K was a red herring. He's a name on the roster and in the rotation, but he fills no purpose. DFA him. Get a real pitcher here. This guy has been dogshit since 2008. We are into the 4th year of dogshit. Enough is enough.:thumbdown
It's time to get serious (if the Sox intend to make a serious run) and get a top pitcher in here. Doubs, Cook, Morales and Dice K could fight it out for any remaining starts not made by Beckett, Lester, Buch or the new guy.
And what was the mad rush to get him out of here? It couldn't have waited until the trading deadline. A little more patience and the problem would have played itself out. Youk would be playing every day and the kid would be DL'd to heal properly. He has gotten a lot of experience this season and Youk would be gone next year anyway, if not sooner, so what the f*** was the rush?
It would be great if we could find a team giving away a player like Youkilis. Oh, that would be the Red Sox. I will ask again. What was the burning reason to give away Youkilis. He was given away. Make no mistake about that. Did he threaten to burn down the clubhouse? Why did he have to be moved before the Trading Deadline? Was the deal for Zach Stewart and Lillibitch just too good to pass up? Was that $1 million in salary relief for the 2012 payroll going to make or break the Red Sox 2012 business plan?
The numbers don't lool good for the Sox winning the division. I think that it will take 95 wins to take the ALE. We're at the half way point in a couple of days and the Sox are 5 games over .500. In order to get to 95 wins, they would have to play 23 games over .500 on the second half for a record of 52-29 for a .641 winning percentage. I don't thinlk this team has that kind of play in it. Pumpsie is probably more right than we want to believe about the division hopes. The Sox need to go on a tear now to have a chance, not at the end of July. That wil be too late if the Yankees clean our clocks beforew the All Star break.
They promote their shoulder program as something great for pitchers, but yet our pitchers hardly ever pitch deep into games. The proof of their program is right there. It's a farce.
