  1. I guess you must be too young to remember the wrecking ball that Carlton Fisk took to the BoSox after he went to the ChiSox for 10-12 years well into his 40's. It didn't matter if he was hitting .230, he wrecked us consistently.
  2. I think Dempster would be a good move. We are not going to land an ace at the Trading Deadline, so he is the closest we will come. I can't imagine the price in prospects will be very high. Wouldn't he be just a 2 month rental? Or this could be a story to make the fans think they are really aggressively trying to improve the team and later we will get excuses about the price being too high.
  3. And if you are going to give him away, give him to an NL team. We get to face him tonight, and he'll be taking aim at the monster. If he bangs a few balls of the wall, my head will explode.
  4. From CBS Sportsline:
  5. Looking at the lineups and the pitching matchup, I think it could be a very high scoring game.
  6. Let's hope that we put a stop to this streak.^
  7. Get rid of him. He's a glorified statistician.
  8. Beckett gets points from me for this:
  9. Bobby V went with 4 lefties in a row at the top of the order. I am pleased and surprised. I don't believe in L-R-L-R nonsense. Put your best hitters at the top of the lineup and bunch them together.
  10. Maddon is an imbecile.
  11. The trick is to trade him during one of his hot streaks to maximize his value. I think that window has passed.
  12. He'd fall apart if all he to think about was his hitting. When he starts one of his strike out streaks, the guy looks like a mental case swinging at everything. Last weekend against the Yankees, I thought he was going to start swinging before he stepped in the box. Also, bite your tongue. The Red Sox are not most teams.
  13. I wonder how people here will react if Youk helps the ChiSox take a couple of games from us this week. We can't afford splits at home if there is going to be a run at the Yankees.
  14. Three years from today I think it will be quite clear that Lackey's money would have been better spent on Papelbon, but we will not know for 3 more years.
  15. I think the kid has done a great job of maximizing his performance by compensating for his lack of size and physical skill with very hard work. What is up with your sig? Have you joined a cult?
  16. Nava is out of options. He would have to be DFA'd. I don't think we could get anything for Sweeney. Heck, we couldn't get anything for Youk and we are paying his salary. Sweeney hits a HR every 150 ABs on average in a 7 year career. He has 14 HRs for his career and none this season. He doesn't run very well either. I'm not seeing a market for him. I would still option Lillibridge as he is completely useless.
  17. Visit the old threads. The arguments raged for days and weeks.
  18. More crazy numbers: Batting Avg against Red Sox pitchers in 7th to 9th innings (.252 -12th in the league) OBP Sox pitchers in 7th to 9th innings (.318 -- 12th in the league) OPS Sox pitchers in 7th to 9th innings (.704-- 12th in the league) Papelbon's #'s: BA .227 OBP .277 OPS .645 ERA as you know is not a very reliable metric.
  19. Buzz off! Visit the old threads and read the arguments from the off season. My opinions were clearly stated there. I am not interested in rehashing the issue.
  20. The only thing left to the Paps argument is to wait to see how he does for the next 4 years, and how our FO rebuilds our late inning bullpen. I wish Papelbon well. He was a great Red Sox player. Some Sox fans wish him ill. That I don't understand except when we are playing the Phillies.
  21. And we reached that agreement in March. All I am saying here is that our late inning bullpen has been bad to this point in 2012. It has nothing to do with papelbon's value or retaining him. Bailey was supposed to fill the job but he is among the walking wounded.
