  1. We need pitching. I don't see the sense of swapping Ellsbury and prospects for a dog like Upton.
  2. I was referring to the Mets. But yes, the Red sox late inning bullpen was also atrocious.
  3. Their end of game bullpen was pretty atrocious last year.
  4. Pedroia had the one season where he lost a lot time and that was due to a broken foot. He has not shown a proclivity to injury from playing hard. The little guy is pretty durable. I'd sign him long term. I'd sign him through age 35. He is as driven as any player that I have seen.
  5. I like the Garrett Jones possibility. He can play first or the OF-- flexibility is good He has very good splits against righties, and it would give them the opportunity to see if Gomez can play at the ML level. If Gomez flops, Jones plays full time.
  6. David Eckstein is not a comparable for Pedroia.
  7. I haven't gotten to that point, but it looks like they aren't going to add any more to their starting pitching.
  8. The only question is which Upton is the bigger dog.
  9. http://p.washingtontimes.com/blog/nationals-watch/2012/sep/12/mri-michael-morses-left-wrist-shows-bone-bruise-to/ Torn sheath. Isn't that what Ortiz had? He's had the off season to heal. Shouldn't be a problem.
  10. I'm not a politician and I belong to no political organization, so I have no political agenda. As a private citizen, I have a vote. What does my post have to do with Carl Everett? He was ridiculed for disbelieving in dinosaurs. When I read, the recent news story, I thought of him. I'd like to confirm that I have no political agenda about dinosaurs. Do you? Are you pro or anti dinosaur? Personally, I liked the Jurasic Park movies. Does that make me a political activist? You can be such a jackass nitpicking at everything.
  11. I didn't realize that Carl Everett was a wife batterer. I remember a bizarre incident when he was with the mets when social services intervened with a situation with his kids. I think that was him. I could be completely wrong about that. People made fun of him about the dinosaur stuff, because he said that he did believe that there had been dinosaurs. The was a news story recently that revealed that some commonly believed dinosaur facts were deliberate fabrications. There was no such thing as the the Brontosaurus. The guy who discovered the brontosaurus couldn't find the head to go with the skeletal find so he picked a random head from another find and slapped it on top and presented it as this great discovery. That paleontologist was one of the premier paleontologists of the day and he had a chief competitor who had just made a big discovery. He felt pressure to have his own discovery, so he presented a fraud. I understand that his great great grand son is a premier scientist in the field of climate change.
  12. My recollection is that he had surgery and missed the beginning of last season. It was a good sign that after he returned he did play the remainder of the season. That might be a good sign that there is no chronic problem. On the good side, he 's cheap salary-wise and on only a one year contract like you said.
  13. Yep, Morse is a better risk than Napoli on any deal if he has a bad hip.
  14. He's the catalyst. When he is hot the team wins big and it makes us think that the team is better than it is. That is how hot he gets when he goes on a tear. It is the times when Pedey is not hot that you can see what kind of team we have.
  15. I would be horrified to think Salty is an option at 1B.
  16. Morgan didn't have 3,000 hits nor did Sandberg. If Pedey gets another MVP, gets 200 career HRs or 1,000 RBI, that would put him in consideration as a second baseman.
  17. Jacko has been a good member for a long time.
  18. Joe Morgan was undersized like Pedey. His body held up long enough to make the HOF. Personally, I would never count Pedey out of anything.
  19. Smoak's still carries the dreaded "P" word. Potential.
  20. Whatever, it just seems like you are not satisfied until you extract an admission. I don't think that is being friendly. Do you?
  21. And when I am wrong I will admit it. There was no justifying of anything on my part. With all of the fantasy leagues that I participate in, I am up on the latest developments regarding team's pitching rotations. Do you really think that I thought Wang was in the Nats rotation all season? I didn't. I had picked up Detwiler in at least one of my leagues during the season, so I knew what he was doing.
  22. I don't think that the reply posted below was a "countering. " I agreed with your post and gave an explanation of how things were viewed before the start of the season. That was hardly a contentious reply.
  23. Well now we can be sure that the DBacks are serious about trading him and that it is not just a charade.
  24. I wasn't wrong. I was well aware that Detwiler had many more starts than Wang and in fact, Detwiler had locked down a rotation spot during the season. I just didn't state what I meant clearly enough, and I have since provided sufficient explanation. What is your point? Are you one of those people who is never satisfied until someone capitulates and throw themselves at your feet for forgiveness.
