  1. By way of additional detail, Detwiler went to Spring training behind Wang and Lannan on the Nats depth chart. In fact, when Wang went down, it was Lannan, not Ddetwiler, who was named the 5th starter by Davey Johnson, even though that never materialized. http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-03-26/sports/35447617_1_washington-nationals-ross-detwiler-john-lannan
  2. Yes, and I clarified with additional detail several posts ago.
  3. You would have to think that Napoli's market has evaporated with all the talk about his hip. We are probably bidding against ourselves.
  4. http://www.federalbaseball.com/2012/10/26/3560648/is-the-washington-nationals-chien-ming-wang-experiment-over It was no secret that Davey Johnson wanted Wang in the rotation. He would have broke camp as the 5th starter, but he got injured. When he returned Johnson, put him back into the rotation even though Detwiller was doing pretty well. I don't know what you feel mislead about. The Nats had tremendous depth in their starting staff last year. They had 3 guys competing for the 5th spot and of the 3, Detwiler had the least experience starting, and he did not have the inside line on the job. That was a nice position for the Nats to be in, and not only didn't they miss a beat when Wang went down, but Detwiler emerged. By looking at Vasquez among others they are looking to build depth similar to what they had last year. That's the point that I was making.
  5. Because Wang was injured.
  6. At the start of the year the Nats had Wang targeted to br the #5 starter and Detwiler was a depth or swing option. Wang went down early and Detwiler won the job. That happens at times with the guys who start the season as the depth option.
  7. I wouldn't want them near Fenway, not even taking tickets at the turnstiles.
  8. Kotchman? Nick Johnson? Please no!
  9. I disagree. He could get 30 starts with a terrible team like Miami and lose 15 or 20 games. With the Nats, he might only get 10-15 spot starts for injured pitchers, but he'll be pitching for. A better team and probably be performing at a higher level, because he is over 40 and a whole season would wear him out. Contributing on a playoff team is something he said that he wants to do.
  10. Yep those are the stats. He was removed from the rotation early in the season when Wang returned from injury. Wang's return didn't last long and Detwiler returned to the rotation. Wangs was slotted to be the #5 guy going into the season. That's my recollection. Wang blew up, and that is why depth is so important,m
  11. Theo's 5 year plan starts to take shape.
  12. Last year Detwiler was a depth option. Wang was in the rotation. This year Detwiler will take the spot and Vasquez will be depth if they sign him.
  13. I hope you are right.
  14. He's not at all dissembling. One of his first statements when he became GM last year was about Papelbon. He said something to the effect that he would understand if Paps got an offer from another team that he couldn't turn down. The writing was on the wall. Whether people agree with his moves is another issue, but he is pretty honest about his intentions, which is why his statements about thinking the starting pitching is much improved from last year concern me so much. Based on his statements, I think the chances are 10% or less that we add another starter like Marcum or even Jurjens.
  15. I have found that Cherington has been very honest during his tenure. If he is saying that he still considers Napoli to be a FA then I would not bank on this deal getting done. He didn't say that he was hoping it would work out, and he said they are looking at 1B. I don't doubr they are looking elsewhere.
  16. He has just enough brains to be a danger to himself.
  17. Let's hope that his arm has not been affected by pitching with the bad back.
  18. Nevermind the fans and the media, JH will be mad enough to spit if Cherries throws away between $26-39 million after freeing up All that payroll last August.
  19. If the Nats have no room for Morse, he will get scooped up quickly. He is a Moose but he has enough positional flexibility to play OF and 1B. The Yanks might beat us to the punch. They need a RH outfielder.
  20. He'll get his chance in Spring Training. HAs he pitched anywhere over the winter? I have not seen any reports on him.
  21. They could shift their focus to trading for Morse.
  22. With a couple ofspeed demons in front of him that could work very well. He wouldn't need to hit HRs to bring them home. Singles and doubles would do the trick.
  23. A few of us thought so. Emmz can pick these banned guys out from their first post.
  24. Straight to ignore. Buh By.
