    He had a series of concussions. Sometimes it just takes one concussion to end a baseball career. Look up Corey Koskie.

    He was adjusting to a cavernous ballpark that had him completely psyched out. They have since brought in the fences. However, without the series of concussions, he may well have adjusted and played well the final two months and the shortened fences would have helped him in subsequent years. The concussions derailed his career. There was nothing else physically wrong with the guy and he was not yet losing a battle with age.

    His first concussion was in his first season with the Mets causing him to shut down his season in July.

    In Baseball's attempt to clean up the game and rid itself of the stigma of PEDs has managed to give itself another black eye. I think it has become evident that its testing program is a farce that can be easily circumvented. As Pinstripe said, a bunch of guys just got suspended that had not failed the testing.

    What I read was that he didn't see a scenario under which he would return. That's a little different than just saying "I'm done." His statement can be interpreted as saying that for the right offer (i.e., any offer) he might consider it. That aside, if he is open to playing again, is he worth the invitation?

    Jason Bay has said that he will probably retire. Is he worth an invitation to camp to see if he has anything left. And consider him as a righty platoon option?

    Bobby Jenks would like to return to baseball. After the guy ate, drank and drugged his way out of a lucrative career where he made $8 million for 60 innings of work, he should just stay away. Maybe he could body double for John Kruk.

    There are almost no options available on FA market for right handed OF platoon options. Delmon Young is one of the few that is still available, but we need someone who can play RF. Gomes is the righty option for left field.

    He can appeal this decision to Federal Court. I guess that it is possible that he could get an injunction while the Federal Court is considering the appeal. He probably has 60 days to appeal the decision which would bring the timeline up to Spring Training. The Federal Court deliberation could spill over into the regular season. I hope that he gets an injunction and disrupts the Yankees Spring Training Camp.

    Damn! I wanted his return to be looming over the Yankees in 2014. Has ARod agreed to the 162 games or does he have another appeal available?

    I hate both the Yankees and Dodgers as you do, but at least the Dodgers are not in our division. Also, I have the benefit of the Dodgers being 3000 miles away. I pay attention to them only when I want to hear the great Vin Scully.

    I am never okay with the Yankees beating us whether they overpaid for their team or not. I'd prefer that he go elsewhere.

    I think he lost the fire in the belly. He got married had a family and became domesticated. He used to be a beast on the mound. That Beckett has been gone for quite a while.

    I can see signing Drew, because WMB has had inconsistency at the plate. Also, Bogaerts could hit some bumps in the road. I agree with you on the other issue. I don't like trading pitchers, unless we can get someone for Dumpster.

    Agreed that there were plenty of culprits, but I put the biggest blame on Beckett, because he wrecked his own season and the team's season with his pussy antics. He got cleared to pitch time and again, but the princess could feel that pea underneath the mattress and he refused to pitch and lost his conditioning and then really did get injured. I don't throw blame on guy just for bad performance. That's hard for me to do if the guy just has a bad spell at the wrong part of the season. I'll cut him slack if he suits up everyday and gives his best. 2008 was the first signal that Beckett was a selfish prick. In later years that became very obvious.

    Fred, just a point of clarification. Clowns are funny and likeable. He is not a clown. A point of advice-- once you have someone on ignore never take him off. You are not missing anything except the aggravation that drove you to using the ignore feature.

    Papelbon still has a soft spot for his old mates.

    Beckett's hypochondria (princess and the pea syndrome) and his insistence on seeing every specialist under the sun and shutting himself down for about a month; and his subsequent lat injury from being out of condition when he returned probably cost us back to back championships.

    I am appalled. Rookies should not be able to bang sideline reporters. They should be carrying the veteran's bags.

    Even winners make plenty of mistakes. For instance, Hanrahan and Bailey -- Two Fat Closers, were a huge mistake. Koji was meant to be a set up arm and ended up bailing out the closer mistakes with an all-time great season for a closer. All of these moves are up for debate. Benny will win some and lose some. Last year, he came out on the plus side in a big way. In 2012, his moves stunk. Each move and and each off season gets judged on its own.
