  1. Guapo, I don't agree with that. It is amazing how February turns into August, then December pretty fast these days, and then all of sudden panic city sets in. The Yankees will there with a fat contract if we allow this to meander on, and if it comes to money as it always does, Ortiz will be in pinstripes. No sir, get that damn deal done as quickly as possible and get David signed up for the rest of his career. I say sign him now.
  2. Forgive the spelling. Should have proofred the post. CATASTROPHE!!!
  3. Schill, if your post was directed at me you wasted your time because all you were dong was preaching to the choir. Of course, they had better get David signed up long term. What I certainly don't wan to hear is Lucchino, Werner or Henry tell us "we'll wait until the end of the season and deal with it." ******** on that!!!! That's how we have lost so many players in the past----Roger, Mo, Damon, etc. It is about time these front office pencil neck geeks learn from their past mistakes. Losing Ortiz would be a catasrophe; the owners would never recover their credibility if that happened.
  4. I can see it in two or three years----Beckett, Papelbon and Lester, maybe the best threesome in the American League. That is, if we make sure they stay with us and not get away in some stupid trade, or later on allowed to leave via free agency. Monster Mom called the Red Sox big spenders. Well here's three pitchers you must be willing to spend big on because they are outstanding. In relief, Hansen and Delcarmen will be solid as well.
  5. Well Monster Mom, a free agent or two for a top notch starter or a slugger will be fine but unless Theo is full of s*** he will adhere to his plan of getting good young players in the lineup----or let's just say the hell with a farm system. We have good prospects and we can field a hell of a team in a few years with those guys. Let's not waste this talent because it could play together for a dozen years. Unless there is an outstanding, and I mean outstanding free agent out there, let's stay the course and let these kids get a chance to show what they could do. The drafts have been very good; take advantage of it.
  6. Fens, he a lousy actor and a Democrat, two turnoffs for me. But the guy is a diehard Red Sox fan and I just have this weakspot for my fellow Bosox fanatics. I can put up with him for that reason. Fact is, I kind of like him going after Steinbrenner. Someone has to be his foil and Henry and Co. are not the type to engage George. I like to have someone light a fire under the portly Yankee owner. I like to see him sweat a little. So do you, I think. I just don't think you want Affleck to do it.
  7. Riverside, Wells cannot be on the team by opening day. He says he wants to be traded and refused to be in the unofficial team photo taken yesterday or Friday. That cinches it. He has to go; he doesn't want to be here and it could become a real distraction for us if he's still around when the bell rings. If he changes his mind, an unlikely scenario, fine, but it won't and we shouldn't be in the position of reacting to his moves. Trade him away right now.
  8. Well here goes Monster Mom. Pedroia plays shortstop next year; Gonzales goes. Pinckney plays third base in two or three years as Lowell goes; Ellsbury plays centerfield as Crisp moves to left when Manny leaves; Lowrie plays second in two years when Loretta leaves ( or they could flip Dustin and Jed around); Murphy plays rightfield after Trot leaves; Youk is stil young enough to play first for many years. There, you have your infield and outfield for the future. Lester, Papelbon are moved into the rotation as soon as possible taking the place of Wakefield and Arroyo. Walla!!!!! We have a good team ready to take on the world and still have DH David Ortiz at DH. Ellsbury, Pedroia and Crisp gives us speed; Pinckney, Lowrie and Murphy give us some power; we have Lester and Pap to join Beckett to give us three top notch starters in the rotation, and Hansen and Delcarmen become closer and set-up man. There you have it.
  9. MannyHof, I did not know Papelbon was that old and I couldn't now agree with you more. What the hell are the Red Sox waiting for? They seem to be very reluctant to break in their young players and this crappola cycle of trading and signing vets might be rearing its ugly head again. If this keeps up we could have a backlog of talented young players clogged up in double and triple A. Time for flood tide; get these guys into the lineup and fast. Youk and Pap now; Pedroia and Lester very very soon, Murphy, Hansen, Lowrie, Pinckney and Ellsbury down a short road. Epstein was instrumental is reviving our farm system; now is the time to start benefiting from it.
  10. Facts are facts and Clement sucked against the Blue Jays; I can't figure out why he would pitch so well against the Orioles and bomb against Toronto but it is all there. I think when pitchers are continually sent out against teams they can't beat because "it's their turn" managers are just plain stupid and spitting into a roaring gale. Whatever the reason is, if a pitcher cannot pitch well against a team he should not be used against them except in an extreme emergency, and that definately includes Bronson Arroyo against the Yankees.
  11. Hey Schill, I hope to hell I don't have any trouble from that guy. He seems to have a beef with me for some reason and I don't want a feud to break out on this site. I enjoy working with you guys too much for that. Let's hope tonight ends the crap.
  12. Thank you sir. Look forward to conversing with you.
  13. It says Rookie next to your name. Don't take it so personal. You attacked me, remember? Now what do you say we both put our hammers away and try to get on with being loyal Red Sox fans? I'll even forget you're a Southerner if you'll forget I'm a Yankee.
  14. I'll be down in Fort Myers from March 26-31 and by that time the team ought to really have taken shape. I really hope we see Papelbon in the starting rotation by then. The guy has earned the right for a spot and it is time to start getting our young players into the lineup, and by that not wait until they are 27 like Youkalis, or way back when they did the same to Frank Malzone back in 1957. He was 27, too, and should have been in the bigs at least two years before.
  15. Right 700, right on the nose. We can always hold our nose and root for a guy we might not like if it will help our team win. Besides, I wasn't part of Red Sox Nation when Clement was here so I don't hold any animosity towards him except for the fact that he played five years for the MFY. I just hope he is not just playing us like a fiddle.
  16. The thing about Kearns is that he has handled being both a third and fourth outfielder very well. He wouldn't be a Jay Payton bitching all the time, plus the fact that he hits lefties very well and is a decent outfielder. Who knows? Maybe someone from the FO is reading us and will get an inspiration. I just got through answering a Malzone post and was reminded that as good as he was he kept being sent to the minors until he was 27, old for a rookie. He would up having nine solid years for the Red Sox, but is not the thing I would want to see for our young players. If Papelbon and Pedroia are ready, damn the torpedoes, and get them into action.
  17. Ah Malzone, you said. You have been a fan for a lot longer than I have been, much to my chagrin. I'm 65 and wish to hell I could have found this team before late 2000. I wonder where the devil my head was because the Red Sox were there all the time. I just feel I have to make up for lost time and anything I do might help--even getting a card. I am looking forward to going to Spring Training on March 26, and bought one of their travel packages for the Home Opener and second game April 11-12. I have to tell you and others on this board, just as I've done on the other boards I post on, that I really feel cheated that I couldn't have been on board a hell of a lot earlier than I was. I guess I will never get completely caught up. The only consolation is that I only had to wait four years for a World Series Championship. Anyway, have a great weekend and glad to have this all behind us.
  18. Riverside, I hope that Papelbon has a great spring and makes the team. In fact, I will go one farther. I would like to see him in the rotation. He deserves the chance off of what he did last year. A half-season rookie with a 3-1 record and an ERA below 3.00. I think he has earned it. Also on ESPN last night they were talking about the various teams that need pitching and the Reds topped the list. Maybe we can send Clement or Arroyo there for Austin Kearns. That would give us a fourth outfielder who could also start for us when needed and we could clear a spot in the rotation for Paps. Just a thought.
  19. I was talking to you rookie; now let's drop this subject and move on. I don't like jousting with fellow Red Sox fans. I wish to hell this subject hadn't even been brought up now.
  20. Thank you ORS! Bad enough I have to joust with some half-ass Yankee fans on two other boards; I don't need my Red Sox colleagues at my throat. I like my card. It is fine for me. If such a card is not fine for you, that's up to you to decide. Now, let's stop this pissin' contest and start concentrating on our team's chances. OK??
  21. RedSoxGod, someone put out this topic to show how you can prove you are a Red Sox fan and I suggested you could get a RSN Card. Someone suggested that to me on another board and I thought it good idea. I didn't mean to start a war with my fellow Red Sox colleagues. Hey guys, you don't want a card, don't get one. Do you need one to prove you are a fan? No! Can we now get back to the business at hand of talking about our team's chances this coming year? No more card talk, ok?
  22. Again, NO you don't have to have a card to be a loyal Red Sox fan. Just said it makes me f eel better to have it since I have, like you, become a fanatical fan of the team. Unlike you, I am a rather latecomer to the team, a tardiness that I still kick myself in the ass for. I need to show that I love this team and that is why I have all this Red Sox stuff, am going to Spring Training and flying in for opening day. I'm a retired teacher, and being a Red Sox fans has made me feel like a kid again. What the hell is wrong with that?
  23. Hey Ghost, relax. I didn't say you need to carry a card to prove your Red Sox loyalty, and if you don't want to then that's fine with me. It's your call. I just like having such a card in my wallet. It could be that the novelty of being a Red Sox fan is still somewhat new to me. Remember, I didn't start to follow them until 2001 and because I want to show that I'm a real rabid convert I have to prove to myself over and over again that I am really part of Red Sox Nation. Nothing to get upset about. We are all on the same team, remember?
  24. Then you're in good shape. Think of it this way, does Clemens give us a better chance to get to the World Series? If you think so, don't you think you can put up with his bull@#$% if you can still turn down the volume? I say go for it.
  25. No way Jose Ray, no way. In November the players are completely worn out and are probably nursing a pile of little injuries which need time to heal. If they held such a tournament at that time I think most of the players would shine it on big time.
