  1. Anyone wish we got Millwood now? That would give us more leverage and help us protect our farm system.
  2. Chipper is going no where, the last thing we need is another third basemen. Also, I doubt the angels will land Manny either if they don't offer either Brandon Wood or Ervin Santana, the second to last thing we need is more third base prospects like McPherson.
  3. How did you even make sense out of Red Fox's post? You deserve an award. That post was confusing.
  4. You guys are forgetting one key thing with papelbon, this may have been mentioned but i doubt it, Papelbon is not your average rookie starter. In his entire career up until the last two years, he has been a reliever. He has never pitched near 200 innings before, so yes, throwing him into the fire could damage him. You don't want to dead arm the kid, and you certainly don't want to end up having him getting TJ surgery. I think he will be in the rotation, but maybe not to start out. Lester on the other hand is a guy who if he is good in spring training, don't be surprised if he is in the bullpen this year and moves to the rotation permanently in case of injury. He is a horse.
  5. You're thinking too big here. First off, if the sox do that trade, how do they acquire a center fielder? How about this, not saying this will happen, just doing some tweaking... Pads get: David Wells, Van Buren Boston: Linebrink then do a little number with the Mariners something like this: Clement, Shoppach and Abe Alvarez to SEA and Reed and Everyday Eddie or one of their many excellent japanese relievers, all of whom I have man crushes on, to boston.
  6. I find it hard to believe the players themselves devised some plot to rip people off. Seems odd.
  7. Do you guys who put wake in the number two actually think he is more dependable than beckett? Mine( in order of effectivness): Beckett Schill Millwood Papelbon Wakefield wakefield will have a good season, I think him and papelbon will achieve around the same results while Millwood Beckett and Schilling will keep ERA's under four and high in the wins column. That is realistically how I think they will pitch. Clemens will retire.
  8. It doesn't seem like it makes any sense without a subsequent deal lined up for hillenbrand or koskie or hinske. What are those guys worth though? Does Hillenbrand have more trade value or more value to the jays by keeping him? I'm not sure any of these three guys are going to bring back anything greater in value to their pitching staff than miguel batista, especially since there is such a large gap between the price of hitting and pitching right now. I think they really messed up on this one. Hitting is not going to be the key to the AL east, its going to be pitching and defense, two things that they traded away for a beat up, likes to strike out a lot, poor average hitter in glaus. I don't understand how this improves them at all. I don't like Glaus, and yes I've said this all along, I'm not flip flopping. The guy won't improve the jays at all, and he would have done more for the sox, but not a whole lot either. He is vastly overrated. Their lineup is still the second worst in the division infront of only baltimore and they've downgraded on pitching depth. I know I am repeating myself, but christ, someone should repeat this. This is a bad move. What would be interesting is if they had someone willing to over pay for corner infield talent. A team that might make a cute little push to contend this year, like the pirates. They missed out on two FA's who they wanted to bring in in Mueller and Nomar. They might be willing to deal away a couple of arms for a Hillenbrand or even better to them, A Corey Koskie. He would bring a veteran presence and some nice glove work over there. That might be something that could get worked out. I think then I could give them a little credit here even though Glaus is a stiff. He is at least alittle bit better of a hitter than anyone else they might have right now. Unless Vernon Wells does something like he did in 04. I think Riccardi made a bad move, hes probably the next Paul Depodesta and hes trying to hard to be Omar Minaya. Not that Omar Minaya is going to have a job in four years.
  9. you're a trooper. posting through such a vicious keyboard injury. you should win an award. truly.
  10. I was outraged when I found out that there wasn't a press conference for Ken Huckaby. You've got to be kidding me. You wanna talk about being worthy? I'm surprised this guy hasn't been knighted. The FO should be ashamed of themselves for disrespecting someone of Huckabys caliber like they have. The lack of class in this organization...
  11. It was one stint, he needs some fine tuning. No big deal.
  12. I would be, his agent is still Scott Boras, it gets done before or around new years. Not immediately.
  13. Are you really bothering to coninue this? When did damon 'talk smack' and what the hell is conspiracy of deception are you talking about? This isn't a Mel Gibson move, its a pro sports team. I'm not theorizing, I'm speculating, and you're stretching the bounds of my patience. You're really reaching to try find fault here. So you're salted the sox didn't re-sign damon and you don't see how it would have affected them negativley had they extended a long term deal to him. Ok, thats fine, but to be honest, no one really cares enough about this to go back and theorize about it except for you. Let it go. It happened, can't un-do it. I suggest you poke around the Kevin Millwood thread in the Rumors section and read about what the sox are doing to put a competitve team out on the field in 06, while keeping intact their group of untouchables. Let this go, you're taking this way to seriously. So he left? I wouldn't give him that money either.
  14. I think right now the red sox are the front runners for millwood, until someone like detroit or LAA decides they are desparate and offers him what he wants, 6 years 66 million. At which point the sox won't even pick up the phone if its Boras on the caller ID.
  15. No, with tejada, there "isn't".
  16. I think they were simply trying not to insult a player on such a public platform when there was no reason to do so. With Pedro, there was evident animosity between Pedro Martinez and the FO, so they didn't care as much if they hurt his feelings. Damon and the Sox Brass don't have that relationship, so I think they are just merely saying that they didn't have a chance to match the yankees dollars ( or translated into athlete-speak, they didn't have a chance to show the sort of respect that the yankess showed) as not to make it seem as if they didn't think he was worth it, or had little worth. That is all. You're reading too deep into this. Believe me, the FO of any team in baseball is not just twiddling thumbs in their offices throwing paper airplanes or anything like that. They know what is going on. Sometimes its the moves you don't make. And make sure your PM box isn't full around April when Hansen starts out in the ML.
  17. Is Aaron Hill anywhere near as capable defensivley as Hudson?
  18. Thats great news. I like him.
  19. Damon was not in their long term plans at that price. Move on, breathe in, and then breathe out. You will make it out of this O.K. I promise.
  20. Are you seriously calling me a hyopcrit right now? Damn people who don't read my posts.
  21. Wow, great move by the blue jays. Dealing pitching depth and defense away for a .250 hitter who strikes out a lot and plays mediocre defense. Jeez, no wonder teams employ these ivy league grads to do all this thinking, you'd think common sense would tell you that when hitting goes on the cheap and pitching and defense become expensive paying through the nose for hitting really isn't worth it. What do I know. I guess these Ivy Leaugers have things pretty wrapped up.
  22. Everyone is scared of the blue jays now like we were scared of the Orioles last June. They seemed perfect, they seemed scary and then fell off the face of the earth. I could be wrong here, but since when does a high paid closer and starter both of whom are not exactly proven ( one has 40 career saves, the other a sub .500 record and scars from tommy john), constitute the makings of a good team? I mean yeah, they will hit the gaps well with overbay and glaus, and yeah glaus will put some out, but they gave up some serious defense up the middle to get Glaus and Glaus isn't a savior. They are going to expect this guy to really make a big impact and he won't. The middle of their order is still very much avoidable to pitchers. Glaus is crap. I would have not been happy if he came to Boston via trade, but I do think he had more value here than there. Here he becomes your three hitter and ortiz your four, backing them up with manny makes the two of them absolutley scary, putting Loretta and Youk, two great onbase guys, ahead of them would have been scary too. The fact remains though, that to do damage Glaus would have to hit and so far in his career, he only hits in one quarter of his at-bats. Thats not enough for me to give up any prospects, let more than one and then some major league talent to take on a contract like his... so yeah enough ranting about why Glaus is bad. The Blue Jays still suck, Riccardi is just doing his best Omar Minaya impression.
  23. They may have been surprised he left, they may have been surprised the yanks coughed up more for him but does that mean the sox got our manuevered? No. They put a price on him and were surprised they got outbid with it because to be honest there didn't seem to be a market for johnny at all. But seriously, when isn't John Henry surprised by something? Oh and draft picks, should I send you a PM about craig hansen, or dustin pedroia? What about Jacobi Ellsbury? Draft picks matter champ, just because it isn't televised doesn't mean it doesn't matter. This is the tree that falls in the woods when no one is there to hear that actually does fall. It really does happen. It matters.
  24. Olerud is so good with the glove I dont think that snow will compare although he is pretty good. I think that youkilis deserves the everyday job and he has great on base potential. If he doesn't get the job done, I would like to see Lowell moved, if everyone had so much confidence in a mediocre glove man like Glaus making the switch, Lowell should go to first and become what Olerud was. He won't, but he will be good. Then give 3rd to Marte.
  25. I think you're wrong. I think the sox put a price on Damon and were not willing to exceed that price. Damon was not worth 4/52 to anyone but the yankees and if you disagree, I dare you to try and show me how he was aside from talking about how marketable and handsome he was. P.S. Johnny Damon is a very ugly mand and should have stuck with the facial hair.
