  1. First off, We're talking about the devil rays here. The team that asked for Hanley Ramirez and Jon Lester for Aubrey Huff. They are still spoiled from getting Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. I would do Rent for Marte straight up. Marte was the top prospect in baseball america this year. The kid is real good. I would not however pay for Rents stay. I think if they need that then we need another prospect.
  2. The prospects the braves would be trading are better than giles. Andy Marte is a great 3rd basemen. I think we should do the Andy Marte deal, and then a separate deal for lugo as super manny said. We could put arroyo in a package perhaps/
  3. I don't know about that. I think that when you're an offensive stud it helps when it comes to winning a gold glove yes. Given Mike Lowells year at the plate, I think that speaks to the kind of year he had in the field to win a gold glove. Guys who can't hit do get over looked. Guess what, mike lowell couldn't hit and he didnt get overlooked. Morgan Ensberg hit and played some nice defense as well, and he got passed up for Lowell. I think this Gold Glove happens to really tell how good lowell is.
  4. I met Olerud, I saw him in front of the Boston Public Library just after the playoffs had ended, like a couple days after, I said "You're John Olerud" and he looked at me like I told him something he already knew. I did, but still. He's the man. Great having, I advocated John Olerud every day. Still do, good guy.
  5. Yeah, I have no interest in that deal. I really like this Duchscherer deal incase anyone didnt notice.
  6. Lol, no kidding, but no, i say keep mr. renteria. Unless Jed Lowrie makes serious strides in AA this year we don't have any other route to go at short stop for the next four years. I think Wells is going as well, I don't think he will go to the pads as they are hot on the trail of kenny rogers. I think the most likely scenario right now is wells for Duchscherer with Hawkins from the Giants as a fall back.
  7. I LOVE DUCHSHCERER. That is all. More later.
  8. I really do not want Troy Glaus.
  9. I don't know about that, Gammons is human and even if he did say that, I don't see Mota being enough to garner a deal where we give up our best prospects essentially for another wade miller. I don't see it. I think they took advantage the situation that Marlins were in and they froze them out and told them, well you know after reviewing this is iffy blah blah. He got a clean bill of health from one of the best in the business. For me, thats happy news.
  10. I would rather sit here and play general manager and talk about rumors than complain in game threads during the season. I love the offseason, this is a happy day for me. Most are during the winter. I personally don't see anything wrong with drawing speculation off of rumors. Its what we do. Just the same way we speculate the out come of a game before it happens, we try to forsee the teams success before the season starts and we play GM. Its great.
  11. I have to admit the idea of thomas being able to hit like he used to... in a boston uniform, is really happy. Such happy thoughts though can't come true. I don't think he can hammer like that anymore. I'm just not seeing anything that shows me he can. Could he? Maybe I really don't know enough, but I don't think he will.
  12. Lo Duca is overrated, when I traded for victor martinez in my fantasy league and benched Lo Duca, my team went on a tear. Proof of Lo Duca's overratedness. Kidding, I do think lo duca is a good player and even though Minaya is really going to be hated three or four years from now, they may win the east next year despite being the mets.
  13. Thats really interesting, I hope it works. Honestly, players have issues too and if his issues can't be worked out and he won't play I would hate to see the sox backed into a crappy deal. I hope he can be talked into staying. Sidenote, yagmaster and I both know a kid whose dad does that same sorta work for the dodgers. at least i think dave knows him, he worked with us for awhile. his name was avi, and i remember like three years ago avi's dad took him to the dodgers spring training and avi had his picture taken with gagne. I like stories.
  14. Soriano won't play outfield. He wouldn't in texas, he won't here. And yes playing off of a wall is very hard, and no, not everyone can do it. He won't be the answer in left field at all. I do not like Soriano and he won't be a red sox, i guarentee it.
  15. Sorry to double post, I know its annoying, but... Buster Olney sort of makes my point here about Zito
  16. We're not going to get Zito. I hope we don't get Zito, knowing what beanes price tag will be. Unless beane seriously under values what people will be willing to give for Zito (and he most likely won't) than I don't see any red sox fan being happy with a trade that would bring us back Zito. We would need to give up a papelbon or a lester and we would need to give up a Delcarmen or a Moss or an Arroyo or even two of those three to go with either Lester or Papelbon. that won't be a happy day in red sox nation. I think that if we sent Wells and Shoppach to San Diego for Linebrink that could be a big deal, but I don't know if that is enough to land linebrink in the sox bullpen for next season, it may be, if not its close and might not need much more to do it. Right now I actually am at ease with the Manny situation. I don't think he will be going to the Mets, mainly because I think Minaya is afraid of losing his job with all the moves hes already made this season if the Mets don't win the east. If he sells their future and lands manny and the expectations go even higher, he might lose his job and his first born child when the mets flounder around .500 next year because hey... they're the mets. Unless something unexpected happens in the next few days, Manny will either be on the Red Sox or the Angels, and if hes on the Angels I think that means that Ervin Santana will be on the Red Sox. This would make me quite a happy boy. We might not have his production this year and maybe not next, i'm not sure who is in the free agent pool for hitters next year, but I do know that with that Cash freed up, we will add a substancial bat in the next year or so via trade or free agency.
  17. That off of ESPN.com Pretty interesting since all my yankee fan friends have been telling me all year long that we're in trouble this offseason when the Yankees won't be in trouble with luxury tax. I see how thats worked out for them. good luck george man.
  18. I am not crazy about Garciaparra signing here UNLESS he plays second. If he came back to play second base, I would be a happy man. We have the injury insurance in Cora and Pedroia, and Nomah and Renteria would make some sort of double play combination that I dream about. No more throws from the hole for nomah would make me happy as well. I wouldn't sign him for first base like the orioles were said to want to do, and I wouldn't sign him for the outfield like the D-backs would like to do, but 2nd base would definetly be a thought. I would welcome good ol Ray back with open arms at second base.
  19. You won't. We'd need to include more to get Linebrink, and I'd rather settle for Otsuka than give up anything else.
  20. I would say that Brandon Wood has to be their top prospect, I don't know where you got that list.
  21. They say they won't trade Manny. That is their public stance on it. Do you know that Boston has yet to say that they are trying to trade manny? We all know they will, we all know they are trying, but what they are telling the public officially is that Manny is not available. Teams have inquired, but the sox supposedly aren't shopping him. We all know that isn't true. The sox are shopping him. I think the Angels will trade Ervin Santana. If it were the other way around and we just lost Nixon to free agency and some other big deal right fielder eluded our grasp and signed somewhere else and we had no one in right field, would you trade Papelbon for Vlad? I would. With Lester coming up and a rich farm system, I would trade Papelbon for Vlad. Thats about what we're talking about when Ervin Santana's name comes up in Manny talks. They missed out on Konerko, and they're offense needs to catch up to where they're pitching is. I bet they will trade Ervin Santana if they do get manny, and I hope they do. That is worth it. Having a rotation in two years of Beckett Papelbon Lester Santana and Wakefield or Clement or a very scary thing to think about. I would trade Manny for that. P.S. 22. I would do Clement and Nixon for Abreu in a heart beat. Nixon is fat and is a lock for the DL once a year, Clement is wild and is a head case and I do hope he gets traded this offseason. I wouldn't mind having clement back in our rotation because he will be our 4 or 5 and I think thats a role that he is great for but I wouldn't mind seeing him go at all. The thing with this deal is that the phillies will not do it. They're looking for a Barry Zito or a Vazquez and Clement is not that. They're looking for their rotation to "dramatically change" as a result of dealing Abreu. If the money were even, Beckett and Mota for Abreu would be the exact kinda deal they'd be looking for. Nixon and Clement are no Beckett and Mota. Those are two players who can dramatically change a staff. Clement is no dramatic anything unless you're talking about a dramatic replay of him getting knocked in the coconut by a Carl Crawford line drive.
  23. A good move, real good. Farnsworth will be very good in pinstripes.
  24. Well, if ishii is a sure thing from japan, and he will be freed to file for free agency here then I would rather him, but I think taveras might be the best option now if you're one pitcher away from having a dependable bullpen, which i think the sox are.
  25. Well, you have to pretty much assume that Arroyo will be in the pen and that wells will be traded. Wells will probably bring back a reliever. So, with that, you've got 5 starters and 5 Pen pitchers, not to mention this Ishii guy from Japan who apparently is a beast who may be freed up to pitch in the U.S. who the sox are expected to snatch up quickly. There is still the chance the sox will sign taveras. I don't like carrasco. I don't trust taking a guy like that out of his system.
