You're not understanding my point. If indeed the O's decide to trade him, it will not be for another inflated contract, but instead they will blow up the team, re-invent the franchise and certainly will not be looking to take on a 34 year old manny ramirez who is owed 54 million dollars over the next 3 years. If indeed they do decide to trade Tejada, its not as simple as you're making it sound.
It isn't a "Hey you have a guy who hates you, and we have a guy who hates us, wanna swap and see if it works out?"
If you think baseball execs are going to trade based on that and not based on their own team needs, then you must be pretty niave. Sure, Tejada is a shortstop and the sox need one. Yeah, he wants to leave and so does manny. The O's needs and the sox needs in the end won't draw a match. This isn't that simple.
I stand by this, the only way Tejada comes to the Red Sox is if there is a 3rd team involved that will take manny and send prospects to the O's.
I really have no intentions of posting in this again, its pretty clear cut, this is just too complicated to get done and is nothing more than a pipe dream. I mean seriously, you have to know that you're dreaming. In dreams everything works out nice, but we've seen what a lineup of AllStars can get you, look at new york. Do you want your team to regress like that? Put the pieces together, trading the farm system for all stars never really works out. The Yankees were successful when they were bringing up home grown talent, same of the Big Red Machine, and other winning teams. The sox are starting to get into that trend, don't wish it all away.
So with that I bid this thread adieu and goodbye, or whatever that means. The Tejada idea sucks. Lets go sign Alex Gonzalez and you guys should really all relax on the pot.
