  1. I wouldn't mind Patterson, but Drew I don't think is a possibility. He would cost far to much and is far to much of a risk. I'd love a healthy JD Drew, but I'll pass for now simply because the cost and the risk just won't match up. Els, you've brought me closer to being happy with Tejada than anyone has, closer than I thought possible
  2. imagine him playing... oh wait, he never would. There is no reason to waste production and trade chips getting this guy and sitting him.
  3. How does huston street get honorable mention? and how does gavin floyd get on this list and not papelbon
  4. Yeah, that would be one way to do it. But we would still need a centerfielder. riverside, I don't mean that tejada himself is old, I mean that acquiring tejada would put the pressure on the red sox farm system to fill the holes on the roster. Who knows, maybe they do just let kids fill the holes and acquire one outfielder from somewhere else. I would be all for that, I just don't think its realistic right now.
  5. Don't get me wrong, I'm not weeping over tejada, I just think the tejada trade points to the FO abandoning ship. Their plan as to this point has been to get younger and build a core of young players that can yield champoinship runs year after year. Getting Tejada seems to point to subsequent acquitistions of veterans who will clog up slots which the kids should fill and cost us young players. I suppose if they signed Wilson, and traded Wells for a left fielder I would have nothing to bitch about but it just seems like its flirting with abandoning ship, that, to me is a little unnerving. Don't fix what ain't broken, and Manny hitting behind Ortiz with Cora manning shortstop is not broken at all, especially when you have to only survive on that for a year until you can fill holes with more suitable replacements. A year from now Ellsbury may be ready, a year from now pedroia will be ready, and a year from now Jon Lester along with Papelbon will be able to establish himself as a major league pitcher. Why tinker?
  6. Are the D-backs still shopping green? That is an idea. I like green a lot he'd be a very good replacement in left field if the Tejada deal goes through. and example, I'd be happy to see the metrics that make Tejada as valuable as manny. I don't know if they exsist.
  7. Lecroy has monster power, I remember in 04 he was something like 10/12 in pinch hit at bats with like 8 homers or something ridiculous like that. They misuse a lot of their hitting prospects. Thats why ortiz ended up in our hands and why they haven't had a hitter knock 30 homers in a season since like 1980. But wait, why are we talking about Lecroy? I mean, can he play center field? I'd be funny to see him try, but I don't think so. He's not exactly a feather weight. We have first base sort of solved, and there has to be a DH around somewhere. I think that vari... something is our catcher, right? Jeez, I don't know. Maybe lecroy can pitch?
  8. There is no evidence at all that Manny would walk. All Manny has said publically is that he won't report to spring training on time if he isn't traded. That doesn't exactly scare anybody. Manny will play. We have a viable short stop option in Cora and a whole in CF with no realistic outfield options right now. We can use Clement in a trade for an outfield option and our holes are filled and with pitching to spare ( well not really, no one ever has pitching to spare, but wells is a good pitcher who said he won't pitch here if he isnt traded.) Trade Wells and you can bring pitching back that will do us well for next year and years after. edit - better idea, Ill PM you my entire book on the tejada trade that is all over the rumors section. it will take me awhile, no one read it anyways so at least now i have an audience. it would be too grande to but in here so ill PM it to avoid spamming this whole forum,
  9. The sox are station to station anyways and we have speed where we need it. Should that be our lineup, Matos is rangy enough for CF and Tejada has good wheels as well. I prefer we keep manny, but should we deal him I hope we get Markakis, and not Matos. Matos would be serviceable though.
  10. You've got a search button and the ability to flip pages, so by all means, you go ahead.
  11. Jeez, Burnitz is bouncing around like crazy, agreed in principle with the O's then close with the Stro's and now hes a Buc? Good for him! Anyway, I think I was insulted by example somewhere up there, which is always great. And second, I know alittle bit about the prospect and he can bomb. Hes a solid hitter, but I don't know much about his defensive ability which might be key as to keeping or dealing Marte. So yeah, I'm starting to think that there is something to this rumor, and maybe for the first time the red sox can keep their big mouths shut about a possible deal and there was a small leak to this insider. Why you think that sosh is reliable? I don't know. Anyone with $100 can post there, doesn't mean they know anymore than you do.
  12. Nixons issue is health, but I think he might actually have a healthy season. He isn't that bad in the field. O.K. I am really lazy, and have no intentions of reading this whole thread but it seems like maybe no one has come up with the idea of Marte playing left field. Left field at fenway is practically another DH spot. Its very small, of course, there are 81 road games, but I think Marte could hold it down. There have been reports that the deal buster in this manny deal is which outfielder will be coming to the sox. There is this pretty good 22 year old kid who the sox want and they don't want to take Matos. This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me happy. This could make the deal worth doing, especially if he has the range for center field. If he can play center, slot marte into left, nixon holds it down in right and voula, we have ourselves an outfield. If not, then we spin him, slotting marte in left nixon in right blah blah and again we find ourselves with, yes thats right, an outfield. Shocking. We may even be able to come out of this with a pitching staff if we get another outfielder in this deal, we could keep arroyo while dealing away wells for a bullpen guy to take arroyos set up spot as he would move to the rotation in clements old spot. MARTE IN LEFT! HES DONE IT BEFORE AND HE CAN DO IT AGAIN! (but it won't be pretty at first its better than preston wilson who some of you seem to be rooting for and all of you will be doing a 180 like good little sox fans and booing him into the ground come the second week of april.)
  13. I would prefer ellsbury to gathwright at this point. He isnt going to be the long term solution here, I don't see that happening. and apparently there is no four way so all that is moot. I'd love to explain all the reasons why the sox dont need tejada any more then they need john henry to play short stop, but ive done it a hundred times.
  14. eh, I wouldn't take whats on sosh as gospel.
  15. Yeah, thats what I am starting to think. Seems to me like it may have just been made up, or signals got crossed.
  16. He isn't looking for an extension. He wants his options picked up.
  17. Well, when you win only 80ish games a season, you don't want to trade you're only marquee player for anyone over the age of 30. You need turn around over a long period of time, so you need to bring in prospects. Basically this trade means they will get to tack 5 extra games on to their last years total. Yay.
  18. Yeah because Drew isn't on the DL much and he can probably play one of the most physically demanding positions on the field, right?
  19. Well considering that the asking price right now is Lester for Reed and Meche, it only goes up from there when considering viable trade replacements. So, no, the guys who arent Papelbon Lester and Marte aren't worth trading because what will they get you? A good fertilizer for the infield? Some good grounds crew guys? Look, I'm all for trading a prospect for veterans under the right circumstances, but these aren't those circumstances. We must be prepared right now to be throwing Ellsbury in center, because I don't think we have the trade bait necessary to get us a viable outfield option or two. But hey who knows, I would be ok with Marte in left field next year if thats what it meant, and maybe trade Wells and Shoppach for an outfield option from somewhere. Maybe Ryan Langerhans from the braves, although I don't know if he can handle center. Who knows. The offseason hasn't gone as terribly as some think, but I still don't see the big picture. This doesn't go along with what they have available to them and with what they have done so far. I don't see how this brings us any closer to having some semblance of a big picture. These are all good moves if looked at individually, but together they don't make sense right now.
  20. Was preston close with the pirates or something? Cause i hadn't heard that. Oh, and preston sucks. I don't think he is an option at all. No thanks, Ill keep manny if thats what it means. And, guapo, if Lester Papelbon and Marte are the only three prospects you want to keep then you are vastly underrating Delcarmen, Pedroia, Bowden and Edgar Martinez.
  21. Ellsbury. I'm not happy with that this year though, maybe next, but i'd at least like to see a stop gap from somewhere. EDIT - the options are actually quite significant and no they're not that different from an extension. Its a deal breaker if there ever was one.
  22. I'm not doubting this so much. I think something is happening, because its right about time that something does happen, but I don't know if a done manny deal is what happened. I think its probably close, but this deal doesn't make sense. Now, I don't like Tejada as a Sox, but I see why they would want him. So far he is the closest to value, so I'll take that for what it is. It seems like we are throwing Clement in for nothing though, but thats even ok with me. All of this is O.K. with me provided we keep the farm system intact. That doesn't seem possible to me though, how do we fill center? I really don't have a good answer because now we also need a left fielder. I assume that Marte could be an option in left field as he has some experience there, but that still leaves center open? I suppose wells could bring back a center fielder but then we are short one bullpen arm and are possibly leaving a Yhency Brazoban deal on the table. I for one, am not comfortable leaving that deal on the table anymore then I am comfortable playing with two outfielders next season. Anyone have an estimate as to how much Shoppach would be worth on the trade block?
  23. Assuming it is done, does this mean we are staying in house with centerfield?
  24. Where did Jamie Vermilyea come from?
  25. Maybe both of you guys should check out that link in my post.
