Look at Dinardo's numbers from his call up, and he shut down the orioles last year in his one start. Over 7 innings I believe he made them look bad. That is a good offensive club. I think he gave up 3 earned in that game, but I remember the defense didn't help him any, he pitched great. I can pretty much guarentee I have seen more of him than you, which to no fault of your own, gives me a better sample to judge him on. Secondly, why do you think the devil rays won't be competitive? I think they have a very good young team on paper. They're outfield is Crawford, Baldelli and Huff, three solid players with the bat and in the field. Jorge Cantu had a breakout year with the bat and Lugo isn't a slouch either. They have upton waiting in the wings and Lee at first base, all of these guys are solid. Kazmir is a very good pitcher also. They are definetly a few vet pitchers, 2 maybe 3 away from competing. Thats not a small margine, and clement doesn't turn their franchise around by any means, but he does help them more than he helps us. A lot more. If they could get a hold of Julian Taveras, get clement from us, and one more guy from god knows where, they may be better than you think. Don't judge based on past record. Use you're head, look at their team, and think. They're solid. Look harder.

Excellent! Rejoice!

Considering andruw jones contract? I think Els's offer is more reasonable than you guys think. It won't happen simply because that team really has a gun to their head right now, they already don't have enough to win the east, and there is going to be significant pressure for them to do so anyways. Losing jones is the last PR hit they want to bring upon themselves. Schill the Natural, while I agree with you, you have to realize, the sox might not have a choice. When you have holes like this, to some extent you are at the other teams mercy. Not to the extent where you have to deal grade A prospects, but certainly to the extent where if they ask for arroyo, we can't say no.

I don't know how much weight I put on that article. I think Williams knows he has a ton of pitching and just enough hitting, if he deals contreras, he still has a ton of pitching and then he could get more than enough hitting. Sure, hitting is cheap and pitching is no where, but thats because the white sox have all the pitching. The white sox are in the position where they can just completely not care about market value and just cater to their needs, using pitching to fill offensive holes because they have so goddamn much of it. Usually a pitcher will bring back more than just a hitter, but if thats all they need? Jeez, get a hitter for christ sake and put that team over the top. Hell, give them a top prospect too, that staff is so young. Garland is like 26, buerlhe doesn't look a day over 28 and garcia can't be far off that either. Contreras is the old man of the staff. Deal him, get a hitter. Uribe is vastly underrated, he is only like 24, and very promising. This team could be scary if they acquire tejada. I don't care what williams says he is shooting the s*** if he says his offseason is over and he has an oppurtunity to get Tejada. Horse caca. He will get tejada. I think he is all over this trade.

First off I just want to say thank you for mentioning lenny dinardo. I love lenny dinardo, in a strictly pleutonic kind of way, but a love none the less. I would love to see him be a starter on this club. Actually wow, imagine if the red sox dealt all three Clement Arroyo and Wells and gave the job to dinardo? I've just had an epiphany. The sun has just peaked out from behind the clouds. I am happy. SOLUTION! Deal Wells for BP Help, Arroyo for reed, and include clement in a package that will bring us back a lugo or such. The price on lugo is out of hand right now, but I think that even the rays know they are a veteran pitcher or two away from being a competitive team. Clement and Shoppach or Clement and Moss, something like that, could get it done. I'm not interested in donating them Marte or Lester or Papelbon just because they aren't a good team, but a deal with some fairness like that? Absolutley. Hell, I just became way happier about the whole tejada situation than I was, provided none of the untouchables get involved. Schilling Beckett Wakefield Papelbon Dinardo Thats a rotation with some promise.

I second examples motion to hear by declare all orioles talk as ********. Anyone who speaks of said orioles is now known as a bullshitter. Tejada and Manny are both very ugly men, neither of whom have any place in a beauty pageant. I do not want to look at either for 162 games. I say we get david wright for no other reason than that he is handsome. So, now that I have professed my man-crush for david wright... uhh, I forget where I am going with this, yada yada yada, tejada talks are certainly getting old, I vote 'yay' on re-tooling with the kiddies. I also vote 'nay' on the rumor mill.

No it isn't.
-
I think with the holes the red sox currently have, they can fill them by dealing away pitchers like clement arroyo and wells. They will fill them that way and papelbon will have to be in the rotation. By necessity, he will be a starter.
-
Well first don't get on reeds case, and second, I just finished reading a gammons article on boston.com that said the sox are not planning on trading marte. we've been hearing this all offseason that marte was going to be flipped for lugo and then crisp and then lugo and for awhile we were just going to give him away for free in a four way deal. tampa says they want him boston says no. I dont think hes going anywhere. its not going to happen dont fret.the sox may acquire gathwright, but it wont be for marte.

I think so. K-rod had his fare share of melt downs last year and flirted wit ha 3 era. A 3 ERA is nothing to brag about as a closer. I mean, yeah its solid, but its not boast worthy. And yes, he will be better than huston street.
-
Hansen will start in the majors. I will eat my hand if he doesn't. This kid is a monster. I stand by my bold prediction, I am not underminding gagne or lidge or whomever, hansen, 2 years from now will be an all star, and the best closer in the game. Hansen has three "hall of fame" pitches as gammons put it last summer. A fastball in the high ninties with pin point location, a power sinker in the mid ninties and a vicious slider. He'll be up.
-
They are going after our top three prospects, along with manny.
-
THAT-A-BOY! If the sox trade lester, I will... cancel my nesn subsciption! In all seriousness, these two are potential future aces with front of the rotation potential. Lets take a step forward in time. Lets say Lester is coming off of a 15-9 season with a 3.80ish ERA at age 24, and Papelbon has been pitching at the major league level for three seasons now has a career ERA of 3.30 at 28. Do you one of them and Clement and Manny for Miguel Tejada? *pukes* Yeah i know there is the chance they don't do that well, but I would rather take that gamble then piss it away on a hitter, which come a dime a dozen.
-
i might get moderated for this, but f*** that. I'm sorry, but clement is a servicable pitcher and manny is downright a better offensive player than tejada. Yeah, tejada does play a more key position, but who cares? When it comes to lester and papelbon, they play a key position, young aces. So what Papelbon is ugly? Tejada is ugly, as a matter of fact, so is Melvin Mora, not that any of that has to do with anything. Clement and Manny, yeah sure. Clement MAnny and Cash, yeah ok fine. Clement Manny and a prospect, yeah right but no cash. Clement manny and papelbon or lester? Go and die. Lester and Papelbon are both future aces, so although i would love to make the baltimore orioles franchise, I actually was lying just now, I don't want to do that at all. We could set them up to be better than us for the next five years but I personally think thats a terrible way to go about winning. Sorry this post sucked, I just hate how everyone thinks we should just deal these two guys lightly, just to get a hitter or two. I'm going to go punch a pillow.... or maybe something alive like my dog. dont go calling peta im only kidding.

The White sox have said openly that they intend to deal contrera to make room for mccarthy. I hardly consider that a hit considering how high a cieling mccarthy has. he owned the red sox last season. Sell high and Buy low. Get value for contreras now, pay you're 4 starter next year 300,000 instead of 3,000,000 and go get the best short stop in the game? Foolish? Hardly. No brainer. Look at McCarthy, he is so good that the bullpen is far to small to contain him this year. He is way to enticing. Do you think Contreras is realistically an ace? I think he is realistically a head case who got very very hot and really got on top of his splitter for three months. I think if you deal him now, get maximum value for him, you have just played a sweet game. having a team 'in-tact' is the most overrated thing that fans throw around after a championship run. You need roster turn over, you need to move parts for different parts and re-tool every so often. If the whitesox keep their team in tact, other teams are getting better, while they are getting only older and they decrease annually in value. being intact is crap. if they wanted to stay in tact they'd keep carl everett and let thomas ride the bench while paying him far too much. They have room to improve so they should jump on it. They have so much pitching its nauseating. They can afford to deal a front line starter for a front line hitter, vastly improve their club... and then inject youth. thats disgusting. that is such a dream for any team in baseball.
-
Hah, I would do that deal in a heart beat. All we give up is manny? Sounds great.
-
I'm the least fickle member on this site. If papelbon goes 2-8 with a 6 run ERA, I will still love him.
-
Yeah but ESPN doesn't have insight into every sports organization. They don't know the opening day roster any more than we do. They speculate just like us. Whats on ESPN is not written in stone. Not to say Timlin isn't capable. I liked Timlin as the 9th inning guy, except that he was allergic to inherited runners but I think that is just something that comes into play whatever role he has in the bullpen. If there is really something to it, it may even be more significant in the set up role, because the set up role isn't as clearly defined as the closer. He may come in after the starter goes 6 2/3 with runners on second and third more often then he would come into a game with runners on as a closer. It happens, obviously, we all remember that mini-fiasco in tampa, but yeah, enough babble, timlin is the man.
-
Because Thome is no sure thing and the white sox have pitching to spare. If they deal contreras its cancelled out by McCarthy coming into the rotation and all the pitchers on that staff being virtually equal with Javy Vazquez a bit behind in the proven dept. If they got miggy, it would be much much bigger of a splash than if the red sox did. The White sox need him badly, that would make them nearly untouchable.
-
I like this deal a lot, provided rumors are true that the sox are done with the manny deal because of the whole extension thing. Also the PTBNL better not be papelbon or lester.

RUMOR: Manny & CLement for Tejada deal done ...
ksushi replied to ClayBuchholzIsDaFuture's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I'm light, hence all the sarcasm. I'm always heavy with the sarcasm, it may read angry or annoyed or whatever but thats actually because I'm nothing more than a large pain in the ass when I decide to be sarcastic toward you, which is usually always. Good natured usually, not always. I am a sarcastic tool. No lightening up needed, no arts and crafts needed either, hell that would make me more angry than I already seem. -
Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
ksushi replied to Sox Fan on Cape's topic in Red Sox Minor League Talk
stupid post, not completely unlike all of my others but this one was alittle too stupid to leave on here. sorry. my bad. -
Wilson doesn't play great D anymore, but its a good signing none the less. Hes gotten old and is slower getting to balls and for some of this season looked lost in center. He will still produce runs more than anyone else will in their lineup and hopefully this year if they have a pitcher with a 1.8something ERA he will win some games.

RUMOR: Manny & CLement for Tejada deal done ...
ksushi replied to ClayBuchholzIsDaFuture's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
guy, chill, I don't know what you mean by 'lay off the s***', but maybe you should too. Sorry I didn't see you're post, ill be sure to read everything a lot more carefully as not to hurt your feelings. I hope my deepest apologies are enough to hopefully one day, let you forgive me for the horrible disservice i have done you. ... -
I don't think anyone is saying put him in center. I think for the most part its just talk about Marte going to either left or right. I think left. Which I personally would love.
