  1. Guys I really like to beat and hate to lose to (All Sports): Peyton Manning, funny guy, good guy, but a disgraceful competitor. Shea Hillenbrand. Ron Artest. Carmelo Anthony. Kenny Rogers. Randy Johnson. Drew Bledsoe. I hate Drew Bledsoe.
  2. If Clement comes back, he'll pitch in AAA and maybe even stay there until hiscontract runs out.
  3. ESPN SPORTSLINE: This just in, Roger retires to deal with the clap. Denies comment.
  4. There will be a few guys in that bullpen who currently don't have major league contracts. Don't limit the discussion to guys. Romero will likely be out of the picture, and its hard to imagine Hansen being out of it too. There is something to be said for Delcarmen, Breslow and Lopez too. Maybe Gabbard will compete for a long role?
  5. I'm scared of the colts.
  6. Pavano is a clown. I would love to see him in your rotation.
  7. I expect the sox to make an offer. How big it will be, who knows, but they'll show respect. We all expected Dice-K to wind up in New York pre-bidding too, and then the Sox blew the bidding away. You never know what could happen. I think Theo would love to block Roger to the Yankees. I think Cashman would love to bring in Clemens until Hughes is ready.
  8. Thank you jackson.
  9. The sox aren't run by the papers. I'd hope they make an offer.
  10. The reason why I don't read into that too much was because of the injury in june. He never got his curveball back and without that all he had was the fastball. When all you throw is fastballs, they get racked. Pre-injury, he did well.
  11. I don't know about that, Manny in two years will be 36 and on the decline and Wily Mo has a lot of talent. The Sox are probably going to groom wily mo to play left, because he just can't cut it in right at Fenway Park.
  12. Gonna stop you right here and not even read the rest of that. I said they can get a marquee player. Learn how to read. There are guys out there though that are untouchable that would require a lot more to get. Miguel Cabrera would take some big time names to get in like the other Stephen Jackson, the shortstop from the DBacks, or Delmon Young or Justin Upton, Liriano. Those types of prospects could make an untouchable player available. "Can't miss" prospects. Andy Marte might be one of them. Steven Jackson and Humberto Sanchez aren't those guys. They're very very good, I'd say Sanchez is up there with the Lesters and the Hughes's but Jackson is a little lesser but supposedly has great stuff. Gandolf or whatever is a single A pitcher with a less than sparkling resume, so trading him might be getting low value this season until he has nice results to go along with his stuff. Now, before you respond, read and understand. Edit, got my olendorf infro from a crappy source. Apparently he pitched in AA last year.
  13. Careful, Gom. But, seriously, the yanks aren't going to spin the exact same prospects they just got for Randy off and get the next great Yankee. Thats ridiculous. The other teams in the MLB aren't also owned by Stienbrenner although a couple do owe him money. Look, I don't doubt cashman is saving prospects for a deal. Jackson and Humberto and maybe throw in Melky, and some of those teams dropping out of the race might be willing to part with marquee players but any player available might be a stretch. Those guys netted sheffield and randy johnson more recently, don't expect to turn that into Miguel Cabrera or Roy Oswalt. Hey do you live in the Boston area? My dealer is all out and I'd love to try some of your s***.
  14. Chad Harville? Getting excited watching him take the mound is like getting excited about a colonoscopy.
  15. Eh. Timlin might be a very good setup guy, but I don't trust him with the closer job. That and Donnelly pitched in the AL, he isn't in a new league. I'd also rather see Delcarmen and Hansen get looks over a guy who hasn't pitched past AA yet. Edgar has a big fastball, but his stuff didn't progress like expected. Hansen has better stuff, better poise and more experience. He is still a 22 year old kid though, I don't like any of our in house options. If I were Theo I would be lighting up Jim Bowden non-stop until I struck a deal for Chad Cordero.
  16. For now, I would say Papelbon. I would need to be sure that his shoulder would check out and then for sure I'd put him in there. Slide Lester in the 5th spot, or Piniero maybe even though he isn't a very good starter at all, but only if Lester isn't ready and only until he's ready. Otherwise, if we go in-house, if Hansen goes back to using that sinker hes deadly, I'd bet on him winning the job.
  17. ... Runelvys signed a minor league deal, I don't think Piniero is replacing him or taking his job by any means.... Piniero might be something in the pen. I like the idea of making him a reliever although he pitches to contact a lot which could get him in trouble, but we'll see.
  18. In the NL, he'll be a #2
  19. A bad bullpen can blow a lead any time, and the games in april count just as much as september. I'd rather get someone reliable from outside the organization this year, and let kids compete for set up jobs this season rather than expecting them to step up and be good enough to be a closer this season. Maybe one of them is excellent, maybe they put Bard in the bullpen and he is lights out. He does have a nice fastball. But we all know if we depend on Delcarmen, Hansen, Bard or Cox we're asking for trouble. Hansen could do it, but hasn't shown it yet, putting additional pressure on him when he is trying to learn how to pitch in the majors is probably asking for disaster. Same goes for the rest, we could end up with a handful of guys who can't get anyone out. I'd rather go out and bring in a Cordero or a Gonzalez and let Hansen and the others compete for set up jobs. Fred, Delcarmen was injured. Pre-Injury he looked pretty good, but when he came back he was lost.

    Zito watch

If RJ can net the Yankees significant prospects and a major league ready reliever he is leaving NY no matter who is throwing the ball for them next year in his stead. I don't think that will happen though. He had a terrible year last year and the guy is like 74. I don't think anything hinged on Zito, I think it all hinges on what RJ can fetch in return, which I think won't be a whole lot.

    Zito watch

I think the Zito deal is a good one. Remember, Zito could be depended on to be nothing but solid in AL. In the NL, Zito will own. This is an awesome career move for Zito and the Giants are getting a very good pitcher for 7 years. It will work out barring injury.
  22. If Pedroia bats .250 with good gaps power and a nice glove in his first full season, I'm happy. He doesn't need to be the man. 2nd isn't the spot I'm worried about because I'm confident that with his tools pedroia will do something. I'm really worried about SS. Lugo is Edgar Renteria all over again. Same exact games per error, same-ish career offensive numbers. Sure, he flourished in pressure free Tampa Bay, but when he got thrown into a pennant race after the all-star break he turned what could have been a career year into a pretty forgettable one. He was terrible in LA. I'm very worried he will be the same in Boston. I miss O-cab and Gonzo so much. Pedroia has the defense skills I like in a middle infielder, whatever he does with the bat I consider to be a bonus. Up the middle, you can sacrifice offense in favor of D. It helps out your pitchers, and saves you some games.
  23. I see Youk becoming a rabbi-gangster like the Rabbi from lucky number slevin.
  24. I see Coco doing a lot of cheesy commercials with his dad. Don't be surprised if Mike Lowell ends up a manager someday. Been around the game his whole life, hes a pros pro.
