  1. don't forget that Foulke got a very late start to his spring, give him to some to work out his kinks
  2. welcome to a new season, boys. God I missed the Sox
  3. well, despite the offer not being confirmed by either side, Papi did say he'd be happy with it and $12.5 million is definitely fair for what he means to the team
  4. ill say Damon's return game to Fenway and every game the Sox will play in Toronto since thats the best shot I'll have at seeing them live this year
  5. this move seems oddly reminiscent of when we dumped O-Cab for the seemingly better Edgar Renteria hopefully Loretta has a better fate
  6. and reading reports about his bat speed from this spring, the early signs aren't too good that he'll return to 2004 form. but I always take anything in the spring with a grain of salt. it's just nice to have some insurance
  7. I always loved Bronson's delivery and when it was working, his breaking balls were absolutely sick But I just can't fault the FO for this. Theo shouldn't have to hold onto a guy just cause he took a hometown discount at the expense of what he feels is best for the team. Bronson agreed to the contract by his own free will without guarantees that he wouldn't be traded
  8. seeing as how I was directly attacked in the first post of this thread, allow me to retort in the first half of last year, Clement carried the rotation. in the second half, Wake carried the rotation. Arroyo had some good starts but by no means was he consistent start-in and start-out I've always thought Arroyo was better in a long reliever role as opposed to starter and when would a GM ever even consider guaranteeing a player won't get traded?
  9. he was a classy guy and it was nice to see someone who really enjoyed playing in Boston so much but I believe it was for the betterment of the team cause he was pretty inconsistent
  10. Damon keeps pissing me off more than more with his comments. It's Damon's fault he didn't stay in Boston, they offered him a long term deal at $10 mil a year. The Yankees just overpaid him like they do all their free agents and he took that deal of his own free will. his comments keep getting stupider and stupider
  11. I didnt love him either but who knows how game 7 wouldve played out without his 2 homeruns. you gotta respect the role the guy played here and I take comfort knowing we got his best years
  12. Arroyo was inconsistent for his entire tenure here and when a deal presented itself that got the Sox a good, proven player in return, they jumped at it. Is Theo supposed to keep Arroyo and watch him get lit up on every outing just cause he took a hometown discount? We have depth at a position and we sacrificed some of that depth to make up for lack of depth in another position. He did what GMs do. By the way, I don't see how you compare this to Damon. Damon left cause the Yankees gave him more money than anyone else wanted to. Last time I checked, the Yankees roster was chock full of players just like that so don't single out the Sox as a team with no loyalty just cause they didn't wanna overpay on Damon.
  13. yea I know but when you think about how easy it should be for the sox to trade him and get value for him, doesn't it make you wonder if there's a reason he's still around? I know there's Alex Cora and Youk can obviously play 3rd but...I dunno, I just really like Graff
  14. here's where I've found my peace with Johnny Damon thanks for your 4 years here, you'll always be remembered as a cult figure in Boston and for what you meant to the 2004 team. The hatred of your defection to the Yankees will fade over time, as they did with Wade and Rocket. I've give you an ovation when you come to town in May but after that, it's just business. You're just the lead-off guy for the Yankees wearing number 18. that is...as long as he stops messing with our business. such as saying Manny wants out and how Manny and Papi should come to NY, etc. You're out of town now, so keep your comments out of town as well
  15. just saying... Lowell is as big of a question mark as anyone else on our roster
  16. consistency at the closer position is essential to our chances this year. whether that's necessarily Keith Foulke or not, doesn't matter. Craig Hansen could get 45 saves this year with a 2.15 ERA and Foulke could have an ERA of 5.00 and it makes no difference to me
  17. if Graff hits a walk-off homer on opening day, gets traded the next day, and the sox win the AL east by 1 game and go onto win the world series, then damn right he should get a ring but then if a guy plays 5 games for the sox and is designated for assignment, how do you tell him he doesnt get a ring? regardless of everything else, anyone who had even the smallest effect on the clubhouse during a given year, had an effect on how the team did that team
  18. well, I see a surplus in the rotation and I see our bullpen still lacking somewhat. plus, I'm growing increasingly concerned about Lowell. I wonder if Graff can learn 3rd...
  19. he's not great, I still haven't forgiven him for game 7 of the '04 ALCS but you can't argue with his results
  20. first off, I think it's a long shot for Juan Gone to make the 25 man roster to start the year and the worst Paps will do is start in the bullpen. I've gotta believe one of the following will be traded prior to April 5th to make room for Paps in the rotation: Wells, Clement, Arroyo. and I believe that's in order of likelyhood of being dealt
  21. there were a lot of changes but any lineup with Ortiz and Manny won't have trouble scoring runs, the defense is a lot better and the entire pitching staff is no doubt a lot better. yea, there's question marks, like whether Coco can handle the Damon comparisons, whether Loretta, Schilling, Foulke and Lowell can have bounce back years and whether Beckett can stay healthy but there isn't a team that doesn't have questions
  22. that really sucks, UPN was the only chance I had of seeing Sox games regularly ah well, Sportsnet always airs a few every season and every Blue Jays game is aired up here so no doubt ill see every Jays vs. Sox game
  23. I've spent the last little while comparing Crisp and Damon and Crisp stacks up pretty well, especially considering he's 6 years younger and will be able $9 million cheaper just like it far from the end of the world when we replaced Nomar with O-Cab, it probably won't be the end of the world replacing Damon with Crisp
  24. I'm starting to get pissed off at the front office. They didn't learn their lesson with Theo and they were crying after he left. Now they're crying after Johnny has left saying they had no idea he signed with the Yankees and blablabla. They need to learn that if they want something, get the f*** out there and grab it. That's what Steinbrenner does and as much as I hate those f***ing Yankees, I'd rather have an owner more like Steinbrenner and less like Henry/Lucchino/Werner right now.
  25. f*** that sellout piece of s***. I know baseball is a business and all that but what he did is inexcusable. He sacrificed a hell of a legacy in Boston for an extra 2 mil a year. f***ing *******.
