  1. I cant wait. i prefer the 6am start time as opposed to say 1pm since I can actually watch about the first 4 innings before going to work
  2. if their plan is to move him to the rotation during the season, I find that to be incredibly risky. last ST, when they started Papelbon as a starter then put him back as the closer, they ruled out the possibility of having him be a starter during the year simply because it's too difficult and risky to do
  3. if the Yankees have an ability to cut the game to 7 innings the way the Red Sox did last year, that proves to be incredibly valuable, possibly more than having Joba come in every 5th day only
  4. or he could very well be the next Chase Wright
  5. it wouldn't have made much sense for the players to make such a public outcry and protest over this if they were actually the ones who cut out the coaches and staff either way, its nice that it all worked out but there still seems to be that part of the story missing
  6. I agree completely with you there but I also don't believe that someone should be dismissed as a "pink hat" just cause they are a celebrity its nice to have an intelligent debate though...
  7. The majority of the population aren't upper class either so of course the largest percentage of any team's fan base will be middle class. Then you'd have to blame FOX, ESPN or NESN for that, not the celebrity Yea, that was a hell of a perk of going to an Expo game. Show up right before gametime and pay dirt cheap for a good seat but I have made the trek to Fenway. and my point in this part of the debate is that if you're in a position in life to benefit by getting priority for tickets, you'd probably take it too. for example, Canadiens tickets are impossible to come by here and I hate seeing the old ladies in the front row of the Bell Centre who don't know a hockey puck from a frozen turd but I take advantage of any connection I might come by to get good seats too
  8. I don't think your financial situation has any bearing on how devoted of a fan you are I don't see why Ben Affleck and Matt Damon can't be lifelong fans just cause they make movies for a living and have more money than you or me I live in Montreal and frankly, I don't see why I should be considered any less of a fan There are a lot more people than just celebrities screwing you out of premium seats
  9. I didn't mean to imply that a celebrity's priorities were more important than a regular person's, just sometimes more difficult to get away from. a big part of it has to do with the amount of travelling most celebrities do, they're never usually in the same city for large periods of time like regular fans are
  10. then I think Henry himself would've forked over the cash to pay his staff and the games would've gone on cause it would've been mission accomplished in terms of making MLB look as bad as possible. because they're such a classy organization, the Sox would've made the trip anyway because there's a lot more to this trip than simply playing a few games. they're putting on baseball clinics, visiting a military base, etc.
  11. so today's game didn't start at 12:05pm as originally scheduled due to the dispute and the Sox instead were signing autographs at 12:30pm. But the update is that the game will go on at 1:10pm as a resolution has apparently been reached.
  12. I've only been to two Sox games, one at Fenway and one in Toronto, and Youk always seems like the friendliest autograph giver when I go. Good luck and enjoy the experience
  13. personally, I think this is a classy move by the Sox to stick up for those members of the organization whose voice isn't necessarily heard as loudly as the players
  14. The Sox are threatening to boycott their final spring training game and the trip to Japan unless the team's coaches, training staff and equipment staff are paid for the trip, as was apparently promised by MLB at one point Boston Globe's full article
  15. they have as much right to be fans as anyone else. the fact that you resent them cause they live a more privileged life is another story altogether
  16. meaning their obligations to their profession varies at all hours of the day and all days of the week (ie. charity events, filming, travelling, promotional appearances, etc.) whereas for a lot of us, we'll miss a game to go to dinner or a movie with a girlfriend or wife for example, if Billy Cystal is filming a movie for 3 months in Los Angeles, it would make sense that he wouldn't travel to New York to take in the Royals
  17. just like regular people, celebrities have other priorities as well, probably more important ones so just like id be willing to miss a KC game in May on TV if I have something else, id be far more likely to clear my schedule for an October game.
  18. ah well, Wakefield will learn to live without him and it beats having an automatic out in the lineup every 5 days
  19. my sentiments exactly. this is so far from being something worth getting riled up over. would anyone care if Ben Affleck played an inning for the Sox in ST this year?
  20. what a great movie that was too
  21. The New York Times - Play Magazine Click to Read the Entire Article Obviously, mini-Steinbrenner is a retard but I do like the spice he adds to the rivalry and the general resentment of the Yankees
  22. Considering how strong the AL East looks this year, could the Orioles end up with the worst record in MLB history?
  23. I just don't see how anyone can find this to be a bad move. I'm actually surprised the Sox were able to sign him for such little money and with a small likelyhood that he would make the opening day roster. Obviously his value has diminished significantly from 2-3 years ago but with the premium being put on pitching these days, you gotta figure someone would have had at least $5 mil and an opening day rotation spot available for him
