  1. I agree completely, I'd love to stash Marte away in the minors just in case but my argument is that I think he'll have his pick of a few places to go and he isn't likely to choose Boston because there isn't a very clear path to the majors for him here. Who knows, he might think developing in Boston's system will help him realize his potential and want to come here.
  2. Wow, I knew Wieters was good, but I didn't think he'd get ranked over Price
  3. Right, but replacing an injured Lowell would be in the short-term cause two years from now he's gone and the very clear long-term situation is Anderson and Youkilis. If Bailey and Marte are in Pawtucket in May and Lowell gets injured, I gotta think Bailey would get the call-up
  4. You really think Marte could make strides quick enough to convince the Sox not go to with Youkilis at 3B and Bailey/Carter at 1B should Lowell get injured?
  5. Not a bad idea. The Sox probably wouldn't be the only one with interest though but at least he would have a path to the majors here unless his agent is convinced Anderson/Youkilis is the long-term 1B/3B combo.
  6. You were there? Sick.
  7. I've only been to Fenway twice so each time has been memorable for me.
  8. Loretta is the utility infielder
  9. Vernon Wells strained his hammy today and will miss at least a month. Gonna be a rough season for the Jays...
  10. it's not moot, the guy has cancer a little work on the bedside manner, doctor
  11. dude's got eye cancer
  12. And as usual, when the Yankees inevitably fail at filling a hole using their farm system, they'll throw a shitload of money at Papelbon
  13. Do you think he's worth $4 million without the antagonizing skills? The guy has never scored more than 15 goals or reached 40 points in his career. I don't think he's a bad player but I wouldn't say the antagonizing is a bonus, I'd say it's a big part of the type of hockey player he is. It's the same reason guys like Steve Ott, Maxim Lapierre and Alex Burrows have jobs. I absolutely think Dallas' attraction to him was largely based on his antagonizing and the Rangers as well, they see how well he can get under the skin of the opposing team's stars. The Rangers remember quite well how he got Brodeur off his game last season in the playoffs.
  14. Everyone in the NHL is a "very good hockey player", thats why they're in the NHL but the ones who stick and the ones who make money are the ones who have something that sets them apart from all the 3rd and 4th line shmucks and for Avery, it's his antagonizing
  15. If Avery didn't act like a douchebag, he'd have a career where he'd bounce between the AHL and the NHL. And there's no evidence his Rangers teammates wanted him gone, the Rangers made an honest effort to keep him but they weren't willing to pay the $4 million a year the Stars paid him. Plus, the Rangers wouldn't be welcoming him back if the locker room didn't want him.
  16. Yea, I wasn't sure what to think about it at first cause two fairly high draft picks seemed to be a lot to pay for a 39-year old making almost $6 mil but he gives us exactly what we need. On our west coast road trip, every team was beating us by using an aggressive forecheck which caused just about all our defencemen to panic and turn the puck over into the defensive or neutral zone. Schneider gives the team a veteran, puck-moving defenceman who can play 20-25 minutes a game and who won't panic in his own zone. He always makes a smart first pass. Plus, his shot and puck-moving skills help our powerplay immensely. Our disgusting powerplay was 24th in the league before Schneider got here and since he's been here, the powerplay has gone 7 for 12 and he's got two goals in his three games. Now the powerplay is 17th in the league.
  17. The Sox have to plan their player personnel moves so as to avoid a direct negotiation against the Yankees. It seems pretty clear that Papelbon will hit the market as an FA soon and it seems pretty clear that the Yankees will be in the market for a closer soon so I'm sure the Sox are planning on life after Papelbon right now
  18. yeszir is probably the one to go to
  19. All depends on when there is a need for him. Right now, Jeff Bailey and Chris Carter are probably ahead of him in the pecking order
  20. Crede is a Twin for 1/2.5, incentives could take it up to 7 The talk is DeWitt will head to Triple A
  21. Arizone Republic is saying Orlando Hudson will sign with the Dodgers
  22. me too, except Bonds and Palmeiro
  23. Any owner who can't afford to spend $60m on his payroll shouldn't own an MLB team
  24. He should do it during the Sox championship parade
