  1. If last year never happened, I would be 100% behind this move.......but he was part of the problem. I think bench coach/bullpen coach.....absolutely, but manager....its too soon for that. I think if and when he does manage, he will be an excellent one.
  2. I want Sandy Alomar. I like former catchers as managers. They are the captain of the defense, the defensive signals are called through them, and they control the pitching/running games as well. If you are afraid of what they have to offer to the offense....well, then hire a damn good hitting coach/instructor. Catchers are instrumental in the pitch by pitch strategies of the game since they are involved in every single pitch of the game. Sandy Alomar Jr, please consider Boston.
  3. Redsox need to just suck it up and pay the guy. They bring in Lackey and give him 17 million a year, They bring in Crawford and give him 20 million a year. They brought in Renteria and gave him 10 million a year. They gave Clement 8.3 Million a year. They signed and gave Lugo @ 9 million a year. How about paying the guys you already have....the guys who have already proven themselves? Nope....instead well overpay for someone elses s***** closer and save a cool 5 million. They waste so much money on other teams s***, how about paying the guy we already have for once?
  4. Well said. I never expected anything from him, because I never knew if hed be out there. When he was, he was pretty productive. Again, I am not sad hes gone, I will not miss him....but I am not joyous hes gone either. He was just another player to me. I just want production out of the RF position. A comparison about JD Drew to another player (whom I actually LOVED while he was in Boston). Jose Canseco in 1995 and 1996 (OPS of .933 and .989). I loved that guy when he was in Boston, but everytime I turned on the game....I half expected for him to be out of the lineup....eventually, it was shocking to see his name in the lineup. I think that happened with Drew, but over a longer period of time until some fans just got tired of it and forgot about him.
  5. Which is why I said you have people who either love him, or hate him based on what they believe is important in terms of evaluating a player.
  6. Actually, the fact that his year by year rankings pretty much show us that he wasnt elite for the position on a year by year basis, which is all I am saying. Why do you get so angry when people talk about JD Drew? I mean, I know you had his avatar (believe it was you) up at one point, so you have some sort of weird allegiance to him. He was a sabremetrics wet dream. He got on base and had pretty good slugging numbers and was also the best defensive RF weve had since Dwight......even if his approach was maddening because he was anti-aggressive even in spots when it called for it. Jacksonian is saying he sucked. I am actually taking the side of "averages" that you and Emmz are taking, and I am saying he was very good.....but Im also playing a little devils advocate and saying he isnt elite based on where he ranked year by year. Again, relax.
  7. You dont need the average, he showed you where he ranked. Elite players play. JD couldnt even qualify 2 of them because he wasnt on the field and was only better than 30% of the other RF's in the game in 2010. Year by year rankings show where he compared in that individual year. You cant ask for an average just to make your argument look better. You said elite, Jacksonian showed you where he ranked....and since you dont like that argument, you ask for another. Its doesnt matter what someone shows you, you wont agree. I could care less, I am indifferent to the guy.......apparently, you have some inner will that you MUST defend him no matter what. If I am wrong, owell. You make arguments personal vendettas here man, relax.
  8. ^He did it for me. ^
  9. Above average...I can give you. Not elite.
  10. Again.... they all counted.
  11. Wait, didnt see jacksonian did that. Why are we not including every season he played here? Stop picking and choosing which stats you want to include everyone....THEY ALL COUNTED.
  12. Emmz, thats cherry picking stats. You cannot disregard his 2011 season just because it works against your argument.
  13. You called him elite, you show me his "elite" stats. Elite is Albert Pujols, Barry Bonds, Miguel Cabrera.........those guys are elite. I didnt say he sucked, just that he wasnt elite, thats all. BTW, Elite players stay on the field. Had JD stayed on the field and played to his "the natural" potential, his end production would have been MUCH better. The guy had hall of fame talent, I wont argue that. Elite, means one of the best. JD Drew was not one of the best. He was very good for a couple of seasons.
  14. JD Drew.....and elite should NEVER be in the same sentence.
  15. Your numbers are off on a couple of guys. DiceK is 10M Beckett is 15.75M Lackey is 15.25M Lester is 7.62M Buchholz is 3.5M
  16. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2011-roster.shtml You might have forgot Jose Iglesias @ 2.05 Million. .........which brings me to my next point. Hes making 2 million dollars to barely hit his weight and with no pop down in AAA. Holy s*** Theo......really?? EDIT: NVM, you included him.
  17. Baseball reference has the Sox current contracts at 126.7M.
  18. Well, Mike Maddux wants nothing to do with us. Pulled his name out of the running today, which might mean they were considering offering him the job.
