I liked the whole #42 thing the first year they did it. Seems kind of tacky now. A Jackie Robinson day every year in which the team does a little movie on the scoreboard screen before the game and hands out a card or something like that would do just fine.

If they try to re-sign him, then trade him he might have some value. I know he was looking for a deal in ST.

If Ortiz continues to struggle, acquire Suzuki. Beane would trade his own mother for the right amount of prospects. Then they could either spin VMart for an additonal bat, or slide him in at DH. Papi would either have his AB's limited or cut. They would still have to figure out what is going on with Mike Lowell. The acquisition of Suzuki may seem insignificant, but I think it makes the team better, especially if they are able to throw in another bat. They would be improving defense and potentially their offense. I imagine Dice-K would be very comfortable throwing to him.

Im on board with trading for Suzuki. Maybe we could sign and deal V-Mart in a package that gives us a bat. VMart is clearly not the catcher of the future, and he doesnt have much of a future here as a 1B since Youkilis most likely is not far away from no longer being an option at 3B as he ages/continues to ease away from the position. -
Hideo Nomo was very good for a while. 7 of his 12 seasons were very productive. I dont remember hearing much about him before he debuted. Hideki Irabu on the other hand.....their "version" of Roger Clemens, well Steinbrenner put it best.....fat toad.

So West is complaining he has to work an extra 45 minutes during redsox games? Tell you what MLB, hire me.....at starting umpire salary, train me.....and I promise I will never bitch about the pace of a baseball game. Memo to Joe West, you are just a f***ing umpire, dont try to be bigger than a Redsox Yankees game. You dont like the pace of the game? Then quit. -
Really not complaining, just stating the obvious facts that Mike Lowell on the roster could/will effect Ortiz and his comfort level. The heat is on him, and it maybe could have been different.

This situation will get worse, before it gets better. If Ortiz continues like this, it will make for an uncomfortable clubhouse with Lowell riding the pine. The public outcry will be a distraction to the team. If Ortiz does not start hitting to justify his spot in the lineup, Lowell will have to be considered an option. If they would ave somehow rid themselves of Lowell, we would not have the same issues. We would be instead saying, "I wonder if Hermidia could provide a little more offense than Ortiz" rather than "Lowell can produce more offense than Ortiz".

Dont understand anyone defending Dice-K. He isnt even a shadow of what we thought he would be. His contract at this point, given his current situation, the fact he chose his country over his employer in the WBC, the piss poor conditioning last year....the stints on the DL, the fact he was supposed to be a top of the rotation starter.....the fact he is another five inning Frank (Castillo), leads me to believe that the front office regards his contract a bust. He is not what was advertised, at the very least....he is disappointing.
