  3. DONE......cya later Ortiz, thanks for the memories.
  4. 0-3, 2 K, GDP DONE.
  5. 0-2, K, GDP....ugly.
  6. Tuukka Rask: Two (2) U's, Two (2) K's, Two (2) points.
  7. playing very impressive tonight. great defensive effort.
  8. Ahhhh, trying to create some new threads to generate some conversation without littering the board with pointless kee jerk reactions like 2/3 of the board, and it appears to be working. If its so stupid, dont post. Your insult is exactly what I wanted to avoid, you know the crap that litters the board.
  9. Obviously there is no way to really compare one team to another, but I have researched what previous RedSox teams have done through 25 games in the season over the past 20 years. Here are the ones that compare: 1992, 12-13 through 25 (finished 73-84) 1996, 6-19 through 25 (finished 85-77) 1997, 13-12 through 25 (finished 78-84) 1999, 12-13 through 25 (finished 94-68) 2005, 13-12 through 25 (finished 95-67) 2010, 11-14 through 25 (????????????) Of those teams most comparable, 92 and 97 were both brutal years. In 1996 they won the division winning only 85 games, that will not happen this year, they will need to win 95+ to win the division this season. I think the 1999 team is better than the team we have this season. They were a pretty good offensive club and also had the best pitcher in the game that season (Pedro 23-4, 1.74 ERA, 313 K's). I also think the 2005 team might have been better all around. They were an offensive juggernaut (Manny and Ortiz both hit 45+ homers that year). Obviously their flaw was Starting Pitching, something we came in to this year thinking this was going to be a major plus, and it still probably will. How do you think this team compares to those other teams with similar starts (through 25 games)??
  10. Has anyone else noticed anything different about him other than less time crouching behind the plate? To me, it seems he has changed his batting stance a little bit. He looks a little more upright. Maybe less time behind the plate/going over matchups on a daily basis is allowing him to concentrate more on hitting?
  11. Getting ugly.
  12. Tons of threads about Ortiz out there, none of which seem to keep the boards interest. Lets keep this thread strictly evaluating his game to game performance, and the amount of time left before he is released, or his role is reduced. 4/30/2010: Mercy.
  13. Beckett criticizes himself to the media. I believe I heard last season, that he was criticizing the FO behind closed doors (amongst teammates) and they were not happy about it. I cant speak about game threads, since I am almost always working when they are most active, but in my opinion....there has been a huge drop off this season. I remember a few years back when the board would go down all the time because of the amount of site traffic. Hell, look at the date where the board had the most visitors ever online, (6/8/2008). That was almost two years ago....you would think that since the board has been around for a while that the date would be much more recent. Ive been here almost 5 years now, this is the slowest Ive seen it since the website format was revamped. The opening up of SOSH to the "lurker" option may have taken away some of our traffic, a few years back you couldnt pay your way to be able to post on SOSH.
  14. There is very little that is interesting about this team to really talk about it. Theo finally got his wish, he built a team that is completely opposite of the team he had in 2004 since it seems he has been working towards the Yankees quiet "professional" atmosphere. No more Mannys, no more Pedros, no more Millars, no more Damons, no more Cabreras, no more Schillings. Pretty soon, no more Papelbons, Ortiz's and Lowells.....you know, the type that is good for a media byte...the type that will criticize the front office for f***ing up. This organization hates flamboyant colorful players that attract attention or openly speak to the media. They hate when players criticize them. That, and they dont like to open their wallet all that much.
  15. Deputy Sheriff (for the Sheriffs Department), am academized to work PT for PD's (just quit a PD recently). Its tough to watch the games when you sometimes work 16 hours a day, and sleep 5-6 hours haha.
  16. What about Atchieson......or did I miss something?
  17. Atchison, Okijima, Schoenweis, Ramirez......we should be absolutely be worried.
  18. Its better than the Galloway that everyone remembers.
  19. All of the arguing over who was better and s*** is really dumb. The Pats f***ed up.....badly. Their biggest need was pass rushers. Had they kept their 2 first round picks: They could of had an OLB and a DE with plus pass rushing abilities. They could have had Bryant, and a pass rusher. They could have took 1 pass rusher, then took McCourtey. Any of which would have been better than what happened today. Value picks = mediocre team. In this division this year.....good luck. Spend some f***ing money on draft picks, there is a reason why our draft picks dont make the rosters (for the most part).
  20. Agreed, welcome to talksox!
  21. Very.....Very disappointed with day one. WTF is going on at patriot place? Could of had Dez Bryant, who would have been Moss's replacement. Instead, they trade out of their two first round pics (we essentially got NOTHING!!!!!!! out of the Matt Cassell trade) and pick an undersized CB with a strong special teams background. There were two solid pass rushers left on the board when we drafted our first pick. Hey kid, good luck covering WR's when the opposing QB has 5 seconds to throw the ball. Enough with the ******** "value" player personnel decisions. Enough of these "value" players give you a value oriented club. They give you an average club. Start spending some f***ing money, and start bringing in players who can play.
  22. 16 games in, but I think this team has shown some red flags that could potentially lead to disaster. First off, the most glaring of late....defense from the catcher position. Varitek is not an everyday player anymore, and his AB's need to be limited (hes about where he should be for PT). He also has trouble throwing runners out, but at least he can handle the staff. Victor Martinez cannot continue to field the way he has. His offensive production, while great for a catcher, will not make up for what he loses in his defense, throwing ability, and his ability to handle the pitching staff. If Martinez continues to field the way he is now, a move HAS to be made, and Victor himself might need to be part of that deal since it appears that they are not going to re-sign him anyway. It was clear before we traded for him anyway that Cleveland was already transitioning him to 1B. Next, there is the whole mess with Ortiz, Lowell, Beltre. If the sox have to trade for a catcher who can play everyday (Suzuki), they will need to make up for the offense lost (Martinez, if part of any deal). We have already seen that this team may have a hard time scoring runs, granted they have not been healthy. If Cameron and Ellsbury (broken rib) miss significant amounts of time, we are in trouble without acquiring a bat sooner than later. The bat we do acquire will have to be a 1B or DH, but if we do acquire a bat, then either that bat (Gonzalez?) or Youkilis will be removed from playing defense. This is another uncertainty. How do we know Gonzalez would be ok with it? How do we know Youkilis would be ok with it? We can sit here and say that Youkilis will play third, but how good of a 3B is Youkilis? He has also aged away from the position, how many years can he play 3B effectively if at all? If we acquire someone like Gonzalez....what do we do with Ortiz, Lowell and Beltre? They could acquire a bat for the OF to replace one of the injured OF, but if they acquire a star, does that mean Cameron is on the bench grossly overpaid for the next two years? If Cameron is on the bench, where does that leave Hermdia? Another issue, Wakefield is going to the bullpen. Neither catcher can catch him, and the Rangers stole 10 bases on him the other night. What value does he have to the bullpen? If he has zero worth in the pen, and hes not good enough at this point for the rotation.....what is his role? This is not a knee jerk reaction, since I am kind of sitting on the fence and just sort of throwing around some observations and scenarios that I have thought of in terms of moving forward the next few weeks. What do you guys think?
