  1. Hence......best redsox pitcher, not starting pitcher
  2. In your sig currently.....I see the definition for backpedaling. This is something that I do not do. If he does well, I will fully take responsibility for being wrong. I bragged to no end about being right about the whole Randy Moss trade so I understand my strong statements about Beckett could bite me in the ass in the end and I am more than capable of admitting being wrong. Dont be confused though, I do not wish him to fail, if those were my intentions I would be a Yankee fan. If he does well, the Sox do well so its a win/win....I am just pessimistic about his productivity for this season.
  3. Not sure anyone hits 40 other than Pujols, but yeah....I think he can.
  4. Lester..........but I do like the Bard pick as well. Biggest surprise? DiceK. I think he turns it on this year.
  5. Josh Beckett: Spring training this year, Regular season last year......all the same.
  6. I suspect it will be Albers and Reyes. They have no options. Acevedo and OKI have options (doesnt mean OKI will accept). One tricky thing will be adding Acevedo to the 40 man roster. Options to remove from 40 man: Tazawa to 60 man to further rehab. Mark Wagner (there are a handful of catching prospects ranked higher) Lars Anderson (his path is blocked other than DH, maybe a trade?)
  7. I had tickets to this game. It was my fiances first sox game ever. She even asked "are all redsox games this exciting?". I laughed, she had no idea. One of my favorite Redsox memories would be Bill Buckner coming back to Fenway and throwing the first pitch. Really classy sentimental moment. You could see how much it meant to him.
  8. Just call Dipre....Mariano Rivera, the closer.....this argument is over.
  9. Who said anything about Wakefield? Who said anything about him being part of the starting rotation? He shouldn't be on the team at all, so thats the end of that discussion. Dice-K sucks. Hes our #5. Colon and Garcia were who I was referring to in my other post in terms of garbage heap players who probably shouldnt be on a teams starting rotation if they wanted to win. Lackey is a #3 no matter how you slice it. Just because you arent a fan doesnt make him not a #3 starter. Sox rotation is overrated.....at the back end. #1 Lester, #2 Bucholz and #3 Lackey are all above average at their respective slots in the rotation compared to the rest of the league.
  10. Oh you will cry a river, when he sucks ass again this year. All the wrong reasons? In five seasons here hes been great once, good once, average once and bad twice. I dont give a s*** what he did with the Marlins 6 years ago (btw, he never threw over 178 innings for them, hes such a tough WORKHORSE). If he pitches the way he did last year, there is no way he takes the ball every 5 days. If you are concerned about Dice-K AND Beckett throws the way he did this year then this team isnt winning a damn thing.
  11. Ill tell the story again... My friend works for the grounds crew. One day, after it had rained the head groundskeeper left the mound in the bullpen half covered up. Beckett turns to my friend, a petty groundkeeper and goes (in his Texas accent) "Why the fahk is this fahking tarp covering my fahking mound!!!!" He tells me its a pretty regular thing, him treating people who he considers less than him like *******s. Combine that with the fact that he headhunts when things are going good against the leagues worst, and hides in the shadows when things are going bad and there you have it. A coward. He picks on the weak man, and when the going gets tough...he gets going, to the clubhouse with his tail between his legs. What has he ever done or accomplished to be treated like an ace? Yeah sure....its fine when he was winning in 2007....but when you are at best a #3 starter...and more likely a #4 then shut your mouth until you back up your punk attitude.
  12. Aceves when hes ready.
  13. talkpats working great :harhar:
  14. terrible
  15. whatever happened to all those liverpool freaks? Just sort of disappeared over night.
  16. Ichiro would have smashed Rose's career hit total had he played all of his professional games in the US. Not only is he a HOF, but he is one of the all times best. Who knows what he could have done. Woulda been one of the greatest hitters of all time and hes also already one of the most gifted outfielders in the games history. If you count his Japanese hit total, hed be at 3678 career hits right now. I know there is a factor of Japan vs. MLB talent, but remember, they also play a significantly smaller season. So if you take that amount of hits, and extend the number of games in a season to MLB standards and also extend the total AB's without giving him credit for another hit, his Japanese stats would drop sigificantly to MLB standards.
  17. How could I forget Sheffield. The man who purposely made errors for the Brewers to get traded. He sucked at SS, they moved him to 3B and he claimed racism. They he purposely made errors at 3B til he got traded. Canseco wasnt as bad as his reputation is. He wasnt a Right Fielder, yet Oakland continued to trot him out there. He was about average to below average (Range factor of 2.08, about average) until he tore his arm up in 1993. After that, he spent two whole seasons (1994, 1995) as a DH. Any appearances he had in the OF 1996 and beyond were abysmal. Had he stayed in LF he would have been much better off. He also had a very good throwing arm before he blew out his elbow pitching in relief in 1993. He wasnt good by any means, and it is hard to call him average, but he was adequate as a left fielder when healthy. The ball going off his head in RF will remain his lasting image in terms of his fielding reputation, and by that time he was at the end of his fielding days (tore up his arm a week later against Boston).
  18. This should be a fun topic to talk about. Who were the worst defensive players in baseball history? Multiple choices are ok. DH is included because at one time, that player HAD to play defense. Catcher- Darin Flethcer, Darren Daulton, Mike Stanley, Todd Hundley, Todd Zeile 1st Base- Frank Thomas, Dick Stuart, Dave Kingman, John Jaha, Ryan Klesko 2nd Base- Chuck Knoblauch, Greg Jefferies, Ron Gant 3rd Base- Butch Hobson, Bobby Bonilla, Pedro Guerrero, Steve Garvey Shortstop- Jose Offerman, Wil Cordero, Jackie Guetierrez, Julio Lugo Leftfield- Todd Hundley experiment. Howard Johnson, Glenallen Hill, Ben Grieve, George Bell, Candy Maldonado Centerfield- Austin Kearns, Lou Brock, Howard Johnson, Terrence Long RightField- Pete Incaviglia, Adam Dunn, Dante Bichette, Danny Tartabull, Matt Stairs DH- Jose Canseco, Harold Baines, Chilli Davis Pitcher- Matt Young, Chuck Finley, Nolan Ryan
  19. My prototype applies to a team with the cash to spend like the BOSOX. #1, a guy who can get on base. Speed is nice, but the leadoff hitter leads off the game by getting on base and setting the table for the meat of the lineup. Simple as that. A leadoff hitter is only the leadoff hitter ONCE a game usually. #2, a guy who is the second best hitter on the team. Usually a guy who does not have the power to hit #3. #3, A hitter who is the best overall hitter on the team, power included. #4, The teams slugger. A guy who hits tape measure shots and has better OB% skills than the hitters below him. #5, A player who is a cleanup hitter for most teams. Unfortunately, the redsox have the resources to spend on a top tier cleanup hitter, so the #5 hitter is really a #4B #6, #7 are a mix and match of power, contact and speed. These players are interchangeable depending on lineup strength and mathcups. #8, is the guy who is the worst offensive player in your lineup. #9, a player who could be a leadoff hitter, but lacks the OB% skills to hit leadoff. I would prefer this player to have a nice combination of speed and OB skills to turn over the lineup. The days of the worst offensive player hitting 9 are dead IMO, not when you have the resources the RedSox do.
