  1. We needed pitching. Bedard, no question about it.
  2. Based on what? He was never given a chance to field, because behind closed doors they know more than we do. He had an opportunity to be a 1B'man here his first season. Kevin Millar, who was pretty much and outfielder before he came to Boston, beat out Ortiz who was a 1B'man his entire life before coming to Boston (although he was also a DH in MINN). As for Fielder, his father.....who had a much better body than his son started breaking down at the age of 32, granted Prince is a much better player than his father.....but he is a big, big boy and as he ages his weight will slow him down just as it did his dad. First picture is Cecil in his second to last season as a pro, and the second picture is Prince from this year.
  3. ugh....not again. Ive been saying all year. He will not hit higher than 6, and frankly....doesnt deserve to. This season is already a lost one for him. We have to take what we get from him, and hopefully next year he reverts to his career norms.....while hitting 6th.

  5. Emmz, a700 hitter and myself have been saying the same thing all year. His defense has improved, and I do root for the guy......but I just dont think hes that good. Other members compare him to other catchers in baseball, well...this year has been a terrible year for catchers offensively. Being the best of the bad does not mean you are "good".
  6. Salty is starting to s*** it up. Hitting .174 this month with an OB% of a palty .208.
  7. Griffey was the better all around player hands down. In terms of true home run hitter. They are a pretty close comparison.
  8. As much as it goes against many of the forum, I think Wakefield pitches in Boston until he decides he doesnt want to anymore. This man is retiring a RedSox, whether we like it or not.....whether he decides to play next year or not. He will not wear another uniform, and Theo wont let him.
  9. Pretty much most of my T-shirts that I have are redsox shirts, other than nice ones to go out. Even at work (most of you know what I do) I wear a dark blue redsox cut off t-shirt under my uniform shirt. I also have a sox bathing suit, a bunch of sox hats, a sox sticker on my car and my dog has a redsox jacket with leather sleeves. In addition, redsox mugs, redsox dvd collection and an entire baseball card binder full of redsox cards (hundreds). In the room at my mothers house (I moved out 10 years ago) I still have a redsox banner hanging. At my fathers house (parents were divored, only spent time there on the weekends) there are still "posters" hanging from the 1995 Redsox team that came in the Boston Sunday Herald. I think I have Erik Hansen, Mike Maddux, Mo Vaughn, John Valentin and Jose Canseco still hanging in my old bedroom. I kinda like the redsox.
  10. Steve Buckley and Lou Merloni both push another old time game pretty hard: http://oldtimebaseball.com/ clips here: http://audio.weei.com/v/43827826/weei-at-the-18th-annual-oldtime-baseball-game.htm#q=old+time+baseball
  11. Is this his last season? Do the Sox ask him to return? What do you think of the pursuit of 200 wins?
  12. greatest "natural" home run hitter of the steroid era generation, and a first ballot hall of famer for doing it the right way.

for the JETS or TEXANS fans out there, we have a Monday night football thread going on right now.....
  14. I work at a job where people try speaking to me in spanish everyday. Me: "Hello" Them: "someone speak spanish (broken english)" Me: "Nope, I speak english, this is america" Them: "someone else speak spanish (broken english)" Me:..................I hangup the phone. Sorry, if you dealt with what I deal with everyday....you would too.
  15. Can we show this guy a little respect? Hes on pace for his 6th straight season of 35+ saves. He is 27/28 in save opportunities. He has proven last year was a fluke. He has been remarkably consistent and durable in his time with the RedSox. He has the ability to pitch 1+ innings to get tough outs. Most of all, hes a proven post season closer, and hes proven he can handle this market. Weve gone year to year with the guy for 3+ years. Can we show this guy some love and offer him a 3 year deal? There have been zero indication that he is going to break down......and has more than proven he is worth it.
