  1. Tight strike zone tonight.
  2. 8 pitches.....2-hard hit balls, but 8-pitch 1-2-3.
  3. Oh well, at least it's a ballgame now.
  4. Kappy contributing. Tony, more runs please.
  5. Productive outs work.
  6. Mark Buehrle, fresh off a loss to the Rangers in Texas, thinks something fishy is going on. What does he think is going on? Sign stealing. link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2147225
  7. Got out of the jam. Runs please.
  8. Johnny sounds like he'd have a hard time completing an honorary degree.
  9. Graffanino may not be a 5-tool player, but he's a f***ing dirt-dog of a complete player if I've ever seen one.
  10. They're making him work this inning. Rent is on fire.
  11. Francona is managing like a guy that knows he needs his best pitcher back. He's managing like a guy who's had several key injuries to his pitching staff. He's managing like a guy that has a worn out bullpen. He's managing like the cubboard is bare, which is smart, because when it comes to pitching, it is.
  12. Not if you consider the teams needs. #1 - They need Curt if they are going to be serious about contending in the playoffs, and what he needs right now is innings to get his command back (command has been his biggest problem). #2 - The BP has been worked lately, so why not let him eat a few innings. EDIT: 1-2-3 inning.....think the BP could have delivered one of those?
  13. 7 hits, 5 extra base hits in 1.2 IP.......DONE!
  14. 4 wall balls in one inning......Curt's done.
  15. I've read rumors that have the deal being Petagine and Alvarez for Trachsel and a minor leaguer to be named later.
  16. He could be all right. He had a semi-long layoff between college and his professional debut. He's only been throwing for about 3-4 weeks with the Sox, and it's typical for pitchers to experience what feels like a tired arm at about that point in spring training. Hence, the spring training referrence in the column. I do feel that, given his potential, the Sox will be very cautious with their decision making.
  17. In today's column wrapping up last nights game, Gordon Edes writes: I'm not sure what to think of this, but I don't think any long-term injuries should be risked.
  18. Oh, I didn't research it. So many waiver wire claim threads already that I figured this fell into the same category.
  19. The Oakland series is at the Fens.
  20. Claiming him off waivers doesn't mean he's on the team. If we have claimed him, and Houston doesn't recall him, and nobody with higher rights to him (since he's from the NL, NL teams with weak records get first shot at him, then AL), then he is on the team.
  21. Relief pitcher? Hey Omar, we've got a lefty for you. He looks a little like Billy Bob Thornton and is on "assignment" right now. Interested?
  22. Need a tissue?
  23. I believe Sexson and Beltre are day-to-day, so the MacDougal-Affair continues for the Yankees.
  24. Looking at how this team handles rookies is a pretty clear indicator that they aren't going to have Hansen closing games, even if he is the best person for the job. Alvarez, Meredith, and DiNardo all come up for a cup of coffee, struggle a little, and get sent back down without a second chance. While teams like the Braves, A's, Angels, and others call up rookies and give them more than one shot to see if they can handle big league play.
  25. Delusional thinking and spin considerations aside, Foulke's effectiveness was due to his control. He never overpowered hitters. He keeps them off balance by changing speeds and locates pitches in parts of the strikezone where it is very difficult for the hitter to do anything with the pitch. High 80's fastballs make the hitters anticipate enough to be totally in front of the changeup. Earlier this year, due to the knee injury, he only had about a 6-8 mph differential on his pitches.
