  1. I think the standings will determine who gets the nod if Boomer is suspended.
  2. I was polite to you, but if are rude when you sulk, that is fine with me.
  3. You start at least 3 repeat threads a week, please look beyond the first page of threads. http://www.talksox.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4093
  4. I'm not sold on Papelbon's control in the closer role. Yeah, he was a closer in college, but plate discipline is not the norm in college. His K/BB ratio and BB/9 ratio in the minors aren't nearly as good as Hansen's, and the only knock on him thus far in the bigs is his control. I know Hansen's IP is very low, but the book on him has always been that he has very good control, which he is proving in Portland.
  5. Well, we tried to bury them.....but the 'pen threw them a shovel.
  6. We have a chance to bury them this inning, 7-5.
  7. Another appearance tonight: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K He inherited a runner on 2nd with 2-outs. The first batter he faced reached on a error. The next hit a soft single to center, and the runner was out at the plate. The next inning he got a groundball out, gave up a line-drive single, got a ground ball for the double play. 8 appearances in AA: 9.2 IP, 9 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K, 1.04 WHIP, .243 OBA, 9.32 K/9 EDIT: They changed the box score on this one, scoring the error a hit. WHIP and OBA have been adjusted.
  8. Millar. Just saying his name right now puts a catshit taste in my mouth.
  9. I'm pissed at Millar for hitting that HR two nights ago, because it probably bought him a week's worth of starts were he can boot a grounder (giving up an unearned run) and strike out on 3-pitches. I've tried, but I just can't get this Francona-logic. EDIT: I know I'm just pissed in-the-moment. I know playing him tonight was the best move because he looked like he was about to get hot at the plate. And, honestly, I'm pulling for him to get out of this funk. But his constant suckitude is starting to chaffe me in some uncomfortable places.
  10. Millar proves everyone here right on the first play.
  11. Another thing about AJ Burnett. Whoever signs him will be giving up a first round draft pick. Theo and Bill are big on early round draft picks, so I think they will be reluctant to fork out all the money he'll command and give up a first round pick. I would also expect that mentality to allow Mueller (Youk to replace him) and Timlin (Hansen and Delcarmen to replace) to go as well. Both will probably net the Sox picks in the first 3 rounds. Theo wants to build a very deep farm system, and these moves would go a long way to doing that.
  12. Baltimore needs pitching too, badly, and his wife is from the Baltimore area. Yes, we will make him an offer, but it won't be as large as the Yankee's or have secondary motivation like the O's.
  13. Schilling (doctors have said all along that it would take 12-16 months to fully recover) Papelbon Clement Wake Boomer/Milller (Wells if he doesn't retire, Miller if he does) BP Arroyo - M/L relief Gonzalez - M/L relief Delcarmen - Middle relief Hansen - Set up Foulke - Closer I don't see Timlin being resigned if Hansen is going to be groomed as the closer. That could change if they intend to work on a 3rd pitch and convert Hansen to a starter. Myers and Bradford are very good in situational relief, but having two guys on the roster that fit that billing seems excessive. I would expect 1 to stay, but not both. Even if Myers stays, the Sox still need to either pick up or bring up a lefty for the BP.
  14. We need another Yankee fan here like fish need a toaster. Kidding. Welcome.
  15. Enough, huh? Face it, regardless of injury problems, if this team doesn't make the playoffs, then people will be talking about it for a long time since they are the first $200+Million team. The Red Sox have had to deal with injuries (Foulke, Schilling, Wells, etc.) and ineffectivness (Embree) in the pitching staff this season too. Plus we've had to deal with some position injuries as well. And, as far as your name goes, that will stop being funny once you get done with the 6th grade. Grow up.
  16. Portland got swept today in the final game of a 4-game series with the Trenton Thunder, the Yankees AA team. Craig picked another inning up. He still has yet to allow a run. Today he faced 5 batters, but none were able to reach base by any other means than a fielding error. AA line to this point: 8.1 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K I know it is a risk to bring him up now. But he unquestionably has the best stuff in the entire organization, and relief pitching is a major weak spot for the big league club right now. The FO's desire to protect young talent from the set-back of struggling in the bigs is bordering on coddling at this point. I'd hate to have a talent like this spending the rest of the year dominating in the minors while I'm stuck doing the "Remlinger please don't blow it" dance every third night.
  17. What would we ever do without you.....
  18. He was safe, but he wouldn't have scored if our BP stopped f***ing walking him. Too many free passes that ended up on 3rd base.
  19. 0-2 to Ambres......he struck out last time, pattern?
  20. Same thing the last time the top of their order came up. Dejesus walks, Long singles, Sweeney walks.
  21. 2-0 to Sweeney, trouble.......
  22. Part of the problem is we can't keep David-f***ing-Dejesus off the bases.
  23. That was a bit homofied.
  24. That is, of course, they swing the bat.
