1. That bid was from Manny. I forgot he's trying to sell it, and he thought it looked like a cool grill.
2. It's certainly no eye-opening bunch, but I think their pitching staff is the second best in baseball top-to-bottom. They won't need to pound out 900+ runs to win their fair share of games.
3. We had the best closer in baseball, a killer O, and crap in the 4/5 slot last year. It worked for a while, but the wheels came off quick. I'd rather go into the season feeling good about 1-5 and needing to construct a BP on the go than the other way around.
4. Well, like you said, the potential to fail is there for everyone. I just don't think they fall in the "Not a Chance" category given the talent, especially in the pitching staff, on that team.
5. Why not? They've got a good lineup. Lackey, Santana, Weaver, and Colon is a good enough 4-man rotation for October. And, most importantly, they have what looks like the best bullpen in baseball. Speier, Shields, and Rodriguez makes it a 6 inning game. All that team needs to do is make the postseason, and they'll give someone fits.
6. The only thing I can think of is announcer/scorer error. Did you actually see him 700, or was it in the boxscore? They gaffe regularly during ST. There would have been a story if Jacoby was back with the big club.
7. I don't see it. Jones is just slightly inferior to Hunter in the field, but vastly superior at the plate. By FRAA Hunter was 4 runs better, although by THT ZR, Jones was marginally better. Overall, they are about the same defensively, IMO, but Jones is about 20 runs better offensively. If there is any overrating going on, it is you doing it with Hunter.
8. 700, it's an AL East thing. They are trying to avoid familiarity for intradivision rivals.
9. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2006/gd.html?2007_03_18_bosmlb_balmlb_1&brand=mlb They play again on Tuesday. It will look like this.... http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2006/gd.html?2007_03_20_minmlb_bosmlb_1&brand=mlb Just change the day to reflect the date. Visiting team first, home team last.
10. Manny is under contract next year.
11. If they get any one of the three, you can bet your bottom dollar your namesake is out the door via trade.
12. Pretty tough call against VCU there. Sure, the guy guarding him may have got him, but the help was clean on the block. Given the situation, if I'm the ref, I think I swallow my whistle. And he chokes anyway. Great stuff.
13. Huge, I mean epic, block for Wash St. with 24 seconds to play in a tied ballgame. Great action today.
14. Green can ice it. Silly play by MD after the turn-over.
15. Yep, hell of a game. Strawberry needed to hit both of those. Now ODU can make it a two-possession game with a FG.
16. The tourney is so special. Every year. I care less and less about basketball with each passing year, but I'm always entertained by the tourney.
17. When did RSR move to Canada? Ok, Fred. You really need to stop with your wet-twat spring training rants. You piss and moan about the stupidest things. Let's get a few things straight. RSR is not Canadian, rsr is. He's a huge Sox fan, and I laugh at the notion that you think you could challenge it. Also, just because you have the money to fly around all over the country watching the games doesn't mean you are a bigger fan than anyone. It just means you have the means to do it. Whether or not they came here to mess with you after the first ST Sox-Dodger game is immaterial. They wouldn't know about the place if it hadn't been for you in the first place. EZ and Moose never talked any s*** here before the others came. I blame you and you alone for any and every thing that happens with Dodger fans here. Deal with it. Look, I can tell you are a genuinely nice guy, Fred, so that makes hard to tell you to go screw, but it's still something I fee like I want to do given how annoying you can be. I'll refrain again for now, but the ice is thin.
18. Xavier is s***ing all over many brackets right now.
19. That curve is showing some improvement. It's beyond a show-me pitch, and given the quality of his other stuff he can sneak it in there.
20. The splitter is f***ing dirty, though.
21. Papelbon is really struggling to find the strike zone. What is that pitch that he keeps throwing about 2' off the plate, a 2-seamer?
22. Wind looks like it's blowing abou 20mph out to RF. Denorfia's hit looked like a routine fly-ball off the bat.
