  1. This is really much ado about nothing, IMO. It says they inquired about him, but it doesn't say what the inquiry was. With somebody like Benitez, it was probably something along the lines of, "Hey Sabean, does he really suck as badly as we think he does?"
  2. The reason's pretty simple 700, he's been extremely above average everywhere he's played. We just happen to have patience that lasts longer than the 5 minutes you have. One could ask why you are so willing to accept proven mediocrity over giving someone with Pedroia's performance history a chance?
  3. Still looks like he's aiming the FB. Slider to induce the DP. Ballgame.
  4. Nice slider to get Thompson looking.
  5. Just for shits and giggles.....DP last year against the Yankees: .375/.500/.625 And 2/3 today. Thoughts?
  6. I don't think that stat says he has bad range, he had by far the most out of zone plays. It just says the doesn't play his zone well, and I've listed reasons why that could be, which extra out of zone outs agrees with. However, I've looked into it a bit, and Chris Dial's RSpt has Hudson at -4 compared to average, so maybe he isn't what my perception thought he was. Loretta was -7, so he's, what, 6 for 6 now with systems putting him well below average? Kinda tough to pick the guy that is firmly in the underperforming crowd in every system. Yeah, because noboby ever improves after adjusting to a new level and their first 80 ABs locks them into a performance range.
  7. Two-runs through three is pretty misleading. They've tattoed the ball off Pavano.
  8. Mirabelli. I kid, I kid. This team begins and ends with the two-headed monster.
  9. Look at the edit I made before you posted. I said my perception of Hudson was wrong. No doot aboot it.
  10. I noticed that, and I didn't say it was perfect. Another flaw with the original ZR is that it doesn't take defensive alignment into account. The zones are hard zones, and alignment can result in a player giving up a hit in his zone that he has no chance to make a play on. EDIT: But, more than likely what happened is that I, like many others, was blinded by the brilliance. Hudson makes some spectacular plays. The guys at the top of the list are excellent keystoners, so I'll admit my perception doesn't fit reality on that one. On Loretta, he hits the list right where I'd expect him to.
  11. THT just came out with good revision for ZR. Stats Inc came up with zone rating, but the flaw is that it didn't account for out of zone plays and awarded double credit for double plays. The new ZR at THT is a more accurate depiction. Not very surprisingly, Loretta finished 19th out of 25 qualified 2B last year. Below average. Link to the stats Sidenote, I'm glad THT finally came out with a defensive metric, and I like the methodology on this one.
  12. Dodging the question won't make the thread you are hanging on to any stronger. It was an either/or choice, so you have two options. Make the right choice and concede the point, or make the wrong choice in order to stick by your guns.
  13. Mine hit the mail this morning. You should get it either Tuesday or Wednesday.
  14. That's not true. He gave up the 2 ER in the 3rd on an IF hit, BB, HBP, seeing eye single. The Tiger's radio guys were on MLB Gameday Audio and they said there was nothing hard hit off him.
  15. And, you missed one. While not an official award, he was rated the best defensive 2B in the Eastern League by the managers in 2005. I think that one is a raffle too, though.
  16. Sorry, I'm not buying it. I know they don't follow individual prospects for weeks at a time, but there's just no way your two weeks in Ft Myers will total more games watched than 3 whole years of professional and winter league baseball. Guys get assigned to regions and they see the same guys several times in the different league matchups. I applaud your confidence 700, but I don't agree with its basis.
  17. C'mon 700. You can't really believe you've seen more of him in two weeks than the scouts have in the last 3 years. Please tell me that is complete hyperbole, because there's no way it's close to true. Does he need to improve? Sure, but that doesn't mean anything re: comparisons to Loretta. Loretta was a statue out there last year. Despite being tied for the 3rd fewest errors for starting 2B he was 9 runs below average. If it isn't hands or arm, then it's gotta be range. And, while footwork is important for a keystoner, your equation doesn't prove poor range. He may need improvement there, and he may not have good speed, but that doesn't mean he isn't quick, and every scouting report says he's quick to the ball.
  18. You missed my point. He'll total more outs than Loretta did through the ASG despite the errors. I added the edit because you were comparing the hole season to a half season, and I didn't want the assumption to be that I was saying Pedroia would best Loretta's whole season out total by the ASB. EDIT: And, I'm confident mine will too. In the end, it's the outs that send the other team back to the dugout. If he's making more of them, then he's doing a better job than Loretta.
  19. And if Pedroia is average, you will get it and then some. I like Loretta too. He was unremarkably reliable, which is good sometimes. That said he was below average offensively (13 batting runs) and defensively (9 fielding runs) for his position.
  20. Maybe so. He'll probably total more outs too. EDIT: That is, through the All Star break. Good, that would make his contribution more than what Loretta's was last year.
  21. That weird because it is uncharacteristic of his play in the past. He needs to get it out of his system before they break camp.
