    And the guy I comped him to, Rodrigo Lopez, also had a couple of good statistical years by ERA (years that beat his FIP by about .75 runs, just like Guthrie). I was never impressed by Lopez, not by his stuff at least, but he always seemed to have our hitters looking for something other than what he was throwing.

    They were a good team, but not elite. And the Shaq Lakers coasted to their 3 straight. The Kobe on those teams was not the same Kobe of today. He was just finding his game. Replace him with a serviceable 2/3 and they still win, IMO, with the only year in question being the 3rd year. I don't think the same replacement does it for the Jordan Bulls.

    Yep, he does this frequently and it makes no sense. If you are already resting a starter to play Wake's caddy, the rest of the lineup should be the A-squad (the healthy ones).

    Yes, this makes tons of sense. History is rife with big time players, in the biggest games of their careers, saying "That's it coach, I can't go on". The manager is there to make this decision for them, because left up to them, big time players don't pull themselves from the game at crunch time.

    Just for the record, if Kobe leads them to victory here, the tally re: Jordan will be 6 to 1. This is the only Kobe team analogous to the Jordan Bulls. This is the first time he goes to the finals as the centerpiece of his team with a cast of decent supporting players that he has to carry. His other 3 championships featured him as option 1A to another top 20, probably top 10, all-time player. Maybe 6:1 is a bit harsh, but it certainly won't be 6:4.

    Selectivity. They are striking out more, lower BABIP, walking less, and seeing less pitches per plate appearance. This is likely due to chasing more and putting more pitcher's pitches in play. The IsoP pretty much holds up in the home/road split, but the IsoD is suffering. EDIT: And, it isn't odd that they are hitting more HR on the road. Fenway, especially early in the year with the cold air and wind blowing in, is not a HR friendly park.

    No, that's not the implication. Nice try to bring it around to your point, which is wrong. GIDP and LOB are counting stats. Teams that put more runners on base will generally have more of them at the end of the year. They are 4th in AL IsoD right now with .157, right behind a 2nd place tie of .158. Power isn't the problem.

    Quit projecting. That's what you are doing here. For whatever reason, you assign yourself a superior status via the baseball team you root for. This has to be the case, for without you feeling superior, then there is nothing for an inferiority complex to be based upon. This is nothing more than what you perceive as true through a seriously f***ed up set of priorities. Please note, here, I'm pointing my remarks at you, not at everyone, which you do with unintelligible frequency. If what you say is true, then your losses in 2001 and 2003 would have brought me more joy than our wins in 2004 and 2007. This wasn't the case. I loved everything about the championships. The only thing enjoyable about your losses is the fact that shuts up the idiots who think their life is better through who they root for.

    That's a recap of the current state of affairs. I asked for something different. Specifically, when do you start recognizing, you - not Joe Girardi, that your captain, similar to our firstbaseman, dives into the pitch, and a large majority of his HBP are directly related to this? When does this happen? Furthermore, I'd love to hear the justification for a retalitory action near the head. EDIT: And the part about diving is important, because, in many cases the need for retaliation does not exist. But, whatever, keep thinking about this like Timmy "Tough Guy".
