  1. At the time of the trade, here's what they were doing in their respective leagues. Lee - AA - 86 IP, 105 K, 0.98 WHIP, 3.26 ERA - this after whiffing 129 in 105 innings and putting up a 2.78 ERA the year before Phillips - AA - 248 AB, .327/.368/.506, 6/3 SB/CS - awesome for a 2B These two alone can't be matched by any combination of Yankees currently in the minors. Sizemore was an unproven raw talent, like you said, but he was also a throwin to the deal. These guys were the meat-n-taters, and the stuff you are putting out there is weaksauce tofu in comparison.
  2. I don't think we have any of that crowd here. Well, maybe Gom can be one from time to time, but not the rest. No, I think the majority of the crowd we have here is the, "They'll be fine" crowd. It wouldn't surprise me if most of them said, "Lidle will be fine", after he tried to park his Cesna on the 34th floor.
  3. I can't for the life of me figure out how that is a non-call on the Bryant steal. It was right there, in plain view, not an at-the-basket contact play, and it was on the biggest possession of the game. There's no way that's not a foul given the way they were calling the game, and they were calling it tight both ways. It sent the game into fouls/freethrows, and the Lakers hit their attempts at the stripe, so that play was the game. I'll repeat what I said earlier, I can't take this league seriously.
  4. This game is drenched in awesomeness.
  5. Funny that you mention that. My wife gave me, from the kids, cedar planks for grilling fish. I said, "So is it OK if I give you the new vaccum you want for your birthday now?" Crickets.
  6. Use your head, Jacko. What do most prospects do first when they hit the bigs? They get broken into the league in relief roles. Even the really good ones. There's 30 years of data where this transition has been made along the lines with what Dorf is going through. I can understand if you just have a hard time accepting PECOTA, but the reason you gave shows how little thought goes into your disagreement.
  7. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, to all the dads out there. So, we got a little into the Pacific Campaign yesterday? Those of you unfamiliar with it should know that JHB is right, Tarawa was a blood bath. The battle plan was a little flawed. It was based on "neap" tide, which provided 5 feet of water depth over the reef that formed the lagoon through which they were attacking. However, "neap" tide only occurred twice a month with proper sun, moon, Earth alignment. The Higgins Boats drafted about 4 feet of water. When they launched the attack at high tide, the coral reef was covered by only 3 feet of water. The tracked ampib assault vehicles (AMTRAKS) made it over the reef. The Higgins Boats ran aground about 500 yds off shore. Did you know that the Assault of Saipan was launched today in 1944? What is the Battle of Saipan famous for? When it became apparent that the US offensive to take the island would be successful, the Japanese civilians on the island behaved in lemming like fashion and jumped to their deaths from Banzai Cliff. http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/40/9540-004.jpg Josh should be able to make the Reds behave similarly. Win it for: DAD You know what else today is? St. Vitus Day - patron saint of actors and epileptics I thought that to be an odd but apt combination. *No pirate was injured in the creation of this post
  8. What bad thing could anyone possibly say about Thumper getting a chance to play on the same field as Mr Dirt Dog himself? Maybe Nixon can teach him how to properly pine tar his helmet.
  9. When are you going to accept that Dorf on Baseball just might not be that good? Blaming the manager now because he sucks? Ridiculous. Blame the manager for using him in regards to winning / losing a ballgame. Don't blame the manager for him being, you know, not good and all.
  10. John Clayton? The dude who always does point / counterpoint with Salisbury?
  11. Meh, another boring but pleasant win.
  12. He's got Cash jumping all over the place after these pitches. Looks like we are still waiting for his sack to drop.
  13. Who is the nitwit calling the game with Remy? "Papelbon got away with one." That was an excellent high-jam pitch. Encarnacion was lucky to make contact. That splitter, on the other hand, sucked monkey balls.
  14. Pedroia did his part to get Drew up again. That could be big.
  15. Thank the gods of boring, yet somewhat pleasant gamethread mojo.
  16. Add this suckfest to Francona's Questionable Decisions file.
  17. Completely bat-shy. f***, get him out. FAKE EDIT: And he does, thank you.
  18. Me too. He was only at 89 pitches.
  19. Okajima here is suspect. He needs to show he's bounced back in lower LEV spots.
  20. What about today's 4-pitcher lineup?
